Details for Nishan Ramadan Tournament Unveiled
DOHA - The Qatar Shooting and Archery Association revealed the details of the Nishan Ramadan Shooting Championship, set to take place at the Lusail Shooting Complex during the holy month. The championship is held under the patronage of HE President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani and will feature more than 250 participants, including members of the Qatari national team and amateurs.
The announcement was made during a press conference held this evening at the Association’s headquarters, attended by HE the tournament's director Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman Al-Thani, head of the technical committee for the championship Noorah Al Hakami, and Director of Programs at the Social and Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM) Hassan Yousef Al Obaidly.
In a press conference, HE the tournament's director Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman Al-Thani emphasized that Nishan is one of the largest Ramadan and community tournaments of the season. His Excellency noted that this year's prize pool has been increased to QR 550,000, surpassing last year’s awards, and expressed gratitude to Daam for sponsoring the tournament for the second consecutive year.
He added that thanks to the efforts of the Association, Al Rami Sports Club, and the vital support of Daam, the Nishan Championship has already succeeded before its commencement, drawing more than 250 participants across amateur categories, including men, women, over-16, juniors, and, for the first time, a senior category for participants over 65 years old.
The senior category’s competition, involving air pistol and rifle events, will be held on March 12 with over 40 competitors.
HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman Al-Thani concluded by highlighting the significance of the Nishan Championship for the association, as it plays a vital role in identifying and nurturing young Qatari talent in shooting sports, providing them with the experience necessary to join national teams.
The championship also serves as excellent preparation for Qatari national team players ahead of upcoming international competitions.
FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 set for December
Doha - The dates for two major tournaments to be hosted in Qatar later this year have been set by FIFA. FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 will kick off on 1 December, with the final taking place on 18 December, Qatar National Day, whereas the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 will take place earlier between 3 – 27 November.
The dates were confirmed at Wednesday’s FIFA Council meeting. A total of 16 teams from the Arab world will compete for the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 as Qatar gets ready to host it for the second time in a row, after successfully hosting the competition in 2021.
“Qatar will once again bring people together from the region and beyond to celebrate the beautiful game in our football loving nation. The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 will capture the imagination of millions of football fans from around the region for a second time, while the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 offers a wonderful platform for young players to shine on a global stage,” said H.E. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Sports and Youth, and LOC Chairman for both tournaments.
“We look forward to welcoming players and fans alike into our world-class sporting facilities and providing them with a rich cultural and seamless fan experience. We believe in the ability of sports to bring people together and help break down cultural barriers, something that drives our continuous desire to host major sporting events in Qatar,” added H.E. Sheikh Hamad.
The FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 will be the first 48-team FIFA World Cup tournament, with a total of 104 matches played in a matter of 25 days. The youth tournament has previously launched the careers of some of football’s most iconic players, and eyes will be set firmly on this edition to see who the beautiful game’s next shining star will be. Host Qatar will look to improve on their best finish – fourth place at the 1991 edition.
Information regarding selected stadiums and ticketing for both tournaments will also be released in due course.
The inaugural FIFA Arab Cup in Qatar in 2021 enjoyed tremendous success, attracting fans from across the region and around the world and witnessing some thrilling action on the pitch. Algeria emerged victorious at the end of the tournament, overcoming Tunisia in a hard-fought 2-0 match at one of Qatar’s stunning FIFA World Cup 2022 stadiums, Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, on 18 December 2021.
Beyond the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, Qatar will host the 2029 and 2033 editions of the tournament regional tournament. This comes alongside the five consecutive editions of the annual FIFA U-17 World Cup, with the first coming this year.

Beach Volleyball Coordination Meeting Kicks Off Ramadan Championship Preparations
Doha – The Qatar Olympic Committee held a technical coordination meeting on Tuesday morning to finalize preparations for the Beach Volleyball Event in the QOC Ramadan Tournament.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Salah Al-Saadi, Assistant Director of Sports Events Management, Mr. Abdulaziz Abdullah Ghanem, Head of Sports Activities, Mr. Mana Ahmed Al-Jaal, Event Director and Several representatives from various Qatar Olympic Committee departments.
The Beach Volleyball Event, featuring six participating departments, will run from March 15 to March 18. The teams are divided into two groups: Group A: Sports Events Department (defending champions), President’s Office, Sports Affairs Department. Group B: Procurement & Logistics Support, General Secretariat, Human Resources & Administrative Affairs.
The Lusail Shooting Range will host the 16th edition of the QOC Ramadan tournament from March 9 to March 18, 2025, in collaboration with the Qatar Shooting & Archery Association.
The tournament features a variety of competitions and activities, including: Sports Competitions: Shooting (men & women), padel, and men’s beach volleyball. Accompanying Events: A 4 km cycling race, entertainment activities, and traditional games. Olympic Museum Participation: An educational Olympic event promoting sports awareness and values.
The tournament will conclude on March 18, fostering sportsmanship, camaraderie, and a rich Ramadan experience. The Qatar Olympic Committee remains dedicated to promoting sports as a way of life, reinforcing Olympic values, and championing the principles of "Sport for All" and "Sport for Life."
Exciting matches in School Olympic Program Tournament
DOHA – The excitement continues to build in the fourth edition of the School Olympic Program Ramadan Tournament, hosted at Qatar University’s premier sports arenas. With 32 public and private schools competing, the tournament has delivered thrilling performances and intense rivalries.
The second day of action saw gripping matchups in Groups 3 and 4. In Group 3, Abdullah bin Ali Al-Misnad Secondary School showcased their dominance, securing a 3-1 victory over Al-Furqan Private School before edging out Cairo Language School 2-1.
Meanwhile, Khalifa Secondary Scool put on a commanding display, overpowering Cairo Language School 4-1, though they later fell to Al-Furqan Private School 3-0. The group also featured a tightly contested goalless draw between Abdullah bin Ali Al-Misnad Secondary and Khalifa Secondary, while Cairo Language School clinched a hard-fought 1-0 win against Al-Furqan Private School.
In Group 4, Ahmed bin Hanbal Secondary School delivered two stellar victories, outclassing West Virginia Academy 4-0 before edging Al-Wakrah Secondary School 3-2 in a nail-biting encounter.
Meanwhile, Global Academy International – Muaither proved their strength with a thrilling 5-4 triumph over Ahmed bin Hanbal Secondary and a hard-fought 5-3 win against Al-Wakrah Secondary. West Virginia Academy also made their mark, securing a 2-1 victory over Al-Wakrah Secondary before sealing a dramatic 32 win against Global Academy International – Muaither.
With the competition heating up, the battle for supremacy in the School Olympic Program Ramadan Tournament promises even more action-packed clashes in the coming days.
Schools Olympic Program Ramadan Tournament 2025 kicks off
DOHA – The fourth edition of the School Olympic Program Ramadan Championship officially commenced the night before last at the renowned Qatar University sports fields, marking the start of an exhilarating competition. This year’s championship has attracted an impressive turnout, with 32 public and private schools participating, all vying for a place on the coveted winners’ podium.
The first day of matches was packed with intense and thrilling encounters across Groups A and B, showcasing the remarkable skill, determination, and sportsmanship of the young athletes.
In Group A, Edison Academy (Aspire) put on an outstanding performance, securing an emphatic 7-1 victory over Cairo Private School. Meanwhile, Al-Ma'ahad Al-Dini Preparatory Secondary School fought to a 2-2 draw against Cairo Private School. Edison Academy then played to a 1-1 draw against Al-Ma'ahad Al-Dini, while Musab bin Omair School triumphed with a 2-1 win over Cairo Private School. Musab bin Omair followed up with another 2-2 draw against Edison Academy, and Al-Ma’ahad Al-Dini sealed a 3-2 victory over Musab bin Omair in a thrilling contest.
In Group B, Middle East International School and Belgravia High School emerged as the front-runners, advancing to the next stage. Middle East International School dominated the group, finishing in first place with a perfect 9 points, while Belgravia High School secured second place with 6 points.
Middle East International School delivered an impressive performance, winning all three of its matches: a 6-0 victory over Qatar Science & Technology School, a 2-0 win against Al-Shahaniya Preparatory Secondary School, and a 3-2 triumph over Belgravia High School. Belgravia High School, for its part, claimed two crucial victories, overcoming Al-Shahaniya Preparatory Secondary School 3-1 and Qatar Science & Technology School.
Abdulrahman Al-Muftah, the Executive Director of the School Sports Federation, highlighted the remarkable success of previous editions, which has sparked greater interest and participation this year. He stated, "The overwhelming success of past editions has inspired a continued commitment to delivering an extraordinary fourth edition. The organizing committee has worked tirelessly to expand participation, ensuring that the largest possible number of schools can take part in this vibrant and competitive environment."
Second Edition of Qatar Squash Federation International Championship Wraps Up
DOHA , (QNA) - The second edition of the Qatar Squash Federation International Championship for men concluded at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, following several days of intense competition.
Egyptian player Karim Abdel Gawad emerged as the champion after defeating his compatriot Tarek Momen in a thrilling final that lasted 72 minutes. Abdel Gawad won the match 3-2 with a scoreline of 11-4, 10-12, 11-4, 8-11, and 11-4, adding another title to his impressive record.
Tournament Director Saad Al Mohannadi expressed his delight at the success of the second edition, praising the high technical level of the competition. He added that the tournament has become a prominent event on the global squash calendar. He stressed keenness to provide a unique competitive experience for both players and fans.
The championship is one of the notable tournaments classified under the Bronze category of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour, with a prize pool of $60,500. This makes it a significant event for players aiming to improve their world rankings.
