Doha, February 11 (QNA) - HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani participated in National Sports Day activities this morning at Our Habitas Ras Abrouq Resort.
HH the Amir played padel with a number of players from the Qatari junior padel team, in addition to a number of students from Dukhan Primary School for Boys, as part of the interest in practicing various types of sports and encouraging the community to adopt healthy practices. (QNA)
Qatar Curling Team lose to China in Asian Winter Games
Beijing: Team Qatar Curling fell 1-11 to China in their group-stage match at the 9th Asian Winter Games – Harbin 2025, currently taking place in China and running until February 14.
Team Qatar’s squad featured Abdulrahman Al-Yafei, Ahmed Al-Fahad, Nasser Al-Yafei, and Mohammed Al-Nuaimi.
Earlier in the competition, Team Qatar began their campaign with a 10-4 victory over Saudi Arabia but later suffered a 2-12 defeat against Japan.
In the women's competition, Team Qatar endured two losses today, falling 0-14 to China and 1-12 to Japan.
The women’s curling squad includes Fatima Al-Fahad, Husseina Al-Fahad, Amina Al-Qaite, and Dana Al-Fahad.
Looking ahead, Team Qatar’s men’s squad will take on Hong Kong tomorrow, while the women’s squad is set to face Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan.
Team Qatar athletes are competing in four sports at the Games: Curling, Short Track Speed Skating, Alpine Skiing, and Ski Mountaineering.
The 9th Asian Winter Games – Harbin 2025 features a record-breaking 1,275 athletes (755 men and 520 women) representing 34 National Olympic Committees from across Asia.
Final Preparations Underway for QOC Half Marathon 2025
DOHA – The Organizing Committee of the QOC Half Marathon 2025 held a key coordination meeting on Monday at the Qatar Olympic Committee headquarters to finalize preparations for the highly anticipated first edition of the race.
Discussions covered the latest logistical, technical, and administrative updates, along with the responsibilities of each working committee. The event is set to take place on Tuesday at Lusail Boulevard as part of National Sports Day celebrations.
During the meeting, Race Director Abdulaziz Ghanim outlined the organizational plan, highlighting key procedures, essential guidelines, and the roles of the committees, partners, sponsors, and volunteers. He emphasized the importance of seamless coordination and clear communication to ensure the event meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and security.
Mr. Ghanim also stressed the need for readiness and vigilance to tackle any unexpected challenges, ensuring a smooth and safe experience for all participants.
Deputy Chairman Salah Al-Saadi praised the efforts of the organizing teams, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver a world-class event. He urged all committees to complete final preparations with precision, ensuring that the Half Marathon becomes a milestone event in Qatar’s sporting history.

Doha: The Qatar TotalEnergies Open witnessed an exciting start as Ons Jabeur and Iga Swiatek secured impressive victories at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.
Tunisian star Ons Jabeur advanced to the second round, defeating American McCartney Kessler in straight sets. Jabeur, ranked 33rd in the world, delivered a commanding performance to claim a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the first-round match. The former world No. 2, who has won five WTA titles in her career, continues her pursuit of success at age 30, having previously reached the finals of Wimbledon (2022, 2023) and the US Open (2022).
Joining Jabeur in the next round is Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, ranked 22nd globally, who staged a thrilling comeback against Czech Marketa Vondrousova, ranked 34th. Svitolina recovered from a one-sided opening set to claim a 0-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory.
Meanwhile, defending champion Iga Swiatek became the first player to reach the Round of 16, extending her dominance in Doha. Harbin, China – The Qatar curling team delivered a strong performance, defeating Saudi Arabia 10-4 in their opening match of the team curling competition at the 9th Asian Winter Games – Harbin 2025, currently underway in China until February 14.
Despite a valiant effort, the Qatari team faced a tough challenge in their second match, falling to Japan 2-12. The Qatar national curling team showcased a strong lineup, featuring Abdulrahman Qassem Al-Yafie, Ahmed Saad Al-Fahad, Nasser Abdulrahman Al-Yafie, and Mohammed Hassan Al-Nuaimi.
On the women's side, the Qatar curling team faced a challenging start in their opening match against the Philippines, falling 1-13 despite their determined efforts.
Representing Qatar in the women's competition were Sarah Hamoud Al-Qaet, Fatima Ahmed Al-Fahad, Husseina Hassan Al-Fahad, and Amina Hamoud Al-Qaet.
