Team Qatar Golfers clinch third place at Arab Championship in UAE
DOHA - The Qatari national golf team secured third place in the 43rd edition of the Arab Golf Championship for Men, held in the UAE at Al Zorah Golf Club, Ajman, with the participation of 12 countries. Qatar earned the bronze medal with a total of 643 strokes over the three-day competition.
Morocco clinched the championship title, taking the gold medal with an impressive 612 strokes. The host team, the UAE, finished second with a total of 638 strokes, securing the silver medal.
Fahad Nasser Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Qatar Golf Association, emphasized the significance of the Arab Golf Championship as one of the most competitive tournaments in the Arab region. He noted that winning the bronze medal reflects the team's consistency and adds to their previous successes, including bronze medals in Bahrain in 2012 and Oman in 2016.
Qatar to take on India in FIBA Asian Cup qualifiers
New Delhi: Qatar's national basketball team will take on India in the Asian qualifiers for the FIBA Asia Cup Saudi Arabia 2025 on Friday.
Following this encounter, they will go up against Iran on November 25 at Al Gharafa Hall. These games are part of Group E, which also features Kazakhstan.
Iran lead group E standings with four points, same as Kazakhstan, while the Qatar are in third place with two points, same as the Indian team, who are in fourth place.
The performance in the qualifiers is expected to be decisive for Qatar in their quest to qualify for the 2025 Asian Cup.

Al-Tamimi advances to quarterfinals of QSF 5 Open 2024
Doha: England’s World No.74 Ben Smith is into the quarter-finals of a Bronze-level event for the first time after seeing off fellow countryman George Parker 3-2 in the QSF 5 Open 2024.
The 22-year-old, who was two games up against the tournament’s No.6 seed Parker, was finding the back corners well as he moved into a commanding position before being pegged back to 2-2 by the World No.45.
However Smith was able to recompose himself in the fifth, despite seeing a number of match balls saved, to secure his maiden appearance in the last eight of a Bronze event.
“It feels great to get to my first quarter-final at a PSA [Squash Tour] event,” said Smith
afterwards. “Me and George [Parker] know each other well and to beat a player like him is a good feeling. “It means a lot [reaching the quarter-finals of a Bronze-level event for the first time]. I just need to keep pushing now and I can’t wait for tomorrow.”
Smith’s quarter-final opponent and home favourite Abdulla Mohd Al-Tamimi booked his place in the last eight with a 3-0 success over Emyr Evans.
Welshman Evans took the game to Al-Tamimi, with the Qatari edging a tiebreak in the opening game 13-11, before the World No.27 claimed 11-4, 11-6 wins in the ensuing games to progress to the quarter-finals.
Elsewhere, top seed and defending champion Tarek Momen kicked off his title defence with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Yassin Elshafei. Second seed Aly Abou Eleinen came through a testing second round clash with Edwin Clain, with the Egyptian triumphing 3-1.
Mohamed Abouelghar, Gregoire Marche and Miguel Rodriguez also chalked up second round wins in straight games, overcoming Jonah Bryant, Addeen Idrakie and Aly Hussein, respectively.
Al Tamimi secures semi-final spot in QSF 5 Open 2024
Doha: Qatar's squash star Abdulla Al Tamimi has advanced to the semi-finals of the QSF 5 Open 2024, a Bronze-level event set to conclude on Sunday. Al Tamimi, the reigning champion, delivered a dominant performance in his quarter-final match against Britain’s Ben Smith, securing victory in just 25 minutes with scores of 11-5, 11-7, 11-7.
The Qatari ace will face Egypt's Ali Abu Al-Enein in the semi-finals. Abu Al-Enein earned his spot after overcoming compatriot Mohamed Abouelghar in a closely contested match, winning three sets to one.
Al Tamimi began his campaign in the tournament with an emphatic win in the round of 16, defeating Welshman Eimear Evans in straight sets.
Meanwhile, Egypt's Tarek Momen, the tournament’s top seed and ranked ninth globally, also reached the semi-finals. Momen defeated Japan's Renyosuke Tsuki in four sets (11-9, 11-5, 9-11, 11-2) and will face Colombia's Miguel Rodriguez, the tournament’s third seed, in the other semi-final clash.
The semi-finals promise thrilling matchups as top players vie for the title.
Qatar beat India in 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers
New Delhi: The Qatari national basketball team secured a convincing 69-53 victory over India in their 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers match at Nehru Hall.
Qatar’s consistent performance across all four quarters resulted in scores of 17-14, 19-17, 14-8, and 19-14 in their favor.
In the same group, Iran was awarded a 20-0 victory over Kazakhstan in Tehran after the visiting team failed to appear. With this result, Qatar climbed to third place in the group standings with four points, trailing Iran and Kazakhstan. India remains in fourth place with three points.
Qatar’s next challenge will be against group leaders Iran on Monday evening at Al Gharafa Hall in Doha, marking a crucial encounter in the second round of the qualifiers.
Team Qatar to participate in Pan Arab Golf Championship in UAE
DOHA - Qatar Golfers will be participating in the 43rd Men’s and 2nd Senior Pan Arab Golf Championship will run until 22nd of November at the Al Zorah Golf & Yacht Club in Ajman.
Over 88 golfers from 12 Arab countries, including Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Tunisia, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine and hosts United Arab Emirates will compete in this championships.
The championship is run over three rounds for the Men’s Division and two rounds for the Senior Division with the lowest scores (of three in the Men’s Division and of two in the Senior Division) counting towards the team score.
The winning nation and player with the lowest gross scores will be declared the Arab Champion.
