Team Qatar U20 to take on Jordan in top-of-the-table clash
DOHA - Qatar are aiming for a victory over Jordan in a top-of-the-table clash in Group J of the AFC U20 Asian Cup China 2025 Qualifiers as they seek to secure their place in the finals. The match will be played at Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium on Sunday at 8pm.
With both teams having won their first two games, Qatar, who have an inferior goal difference, will need to defeat Jordan to top their group. All 10 group winners, along with the five best-placed runners-up, will progress to the finals, joined by the 1985 champions China, who also hosted the 2010 edition.
Qatar, hosting the Group J matches, defeated Singapore 3-0 in their opening match before claiming a 2-0 victory over Hong Kong on Friday. Jordan won against Hong Kong 7-0 and Singapore 2-0 in their first two group matches.
Meanwhile, Singapore will face Hong Kong in Group J at Grand Hamad Stadium in a simultaneous kick-off on Sunday.
Qatar shooters shine at Asian Shotgun Cup
Almaty - The Qatari shooting team continued to excel at the Asian Shotgun Cup, securing three more medals in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Prominent female shooter Reem al-Sharshani claimed the bronze medal in the individual skeet event, while the men’s team, consisting of Rashid Saleh al-Athba, Nasser al-Attiyah, and A Aziz al-Attiyah, also earned a bronze in the team skeet competition. QCSF Annual Forum reviews Last Season and unveils 2024-2025 Sports Calendar
DOHA – The Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF) held its annual forum on Thursday at the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) building, embracing the slogan “Sport Inspires Education.”
The event covered a variety of organizational, administrative, and technical topics, reflecting on last season's achievements while laying out the agenda for the upcoming 2024–2025 sports season.
Chaired by the QCSF Secretary General Mr. Rashid Saeed Adiba and Executive Director Mr. Rashid Ali Al-Tamimi, the forum brought together representatives from universities, higher education institutions, and QCSF board members.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Adiba conveyed the appreciation of H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Bin Saleh Al-Naimi, QCSF President, to the team for their outstanding efforts in the 2023–2024 season, both organizationally and administratively.
Mr. Adiba noted that the QCSF is on a positive trajectory, with participation increasing among both public and private educational institutions, now totaling 19. He also highlighted the enthusiastic involvement of universities in the International Day of University Sport, celebrated on September 20 in Doha, an event recognized by UNESCO and FISU.
The Secretary General emphasized the successes and challenges of the 2023-2024 season, stressing the importance of scheduling sporting events to accommodate university exams and holidays while encouraging a focus on popular sports among students.
He announced the addition of new sports for the 2024–2025 season, including chess, e-sports, cross-country, and swimming.
Mr. Rashid Ali Al-Tamimi elaborated on the process for adding events to the calendar, explaining that proposals are submitted to the QCSF board for selection based on student interests.
He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to boosting student participation in the QCSF-organized championships.
The forum featured constructive discussions aimed at ensuring the success of tournaments and activities planned for the upcoming season.
Qatar beat Singapore to make a flying start
Qatar and Jordan kicked off their AFC U-20 Asian Cup China 2025 Qualifiers Group J campaigns with impressive wins on Wednesday.
At the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium in Al Duhail, hosts secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Singapore. Qatar got off to a dream start, taking the lead as early as the ninth minute through Ibrahim Mohammadali.
Mohamed Khaled Gouda doubled their joy in the 20th minute as Singapore were left with a mountain to climb going into the break. Qatar maintained their high tempo approach in the second half and went 3-0 up in the 54th minute, midfielder Bassam Adel Eid finding the back of the net with the West Asian side then content to see out the remainder of the match.
Meanwhile, Jordan were even more prolific, thrashing Hong Kong 7-0 in the simultaneous kick-off at the Grand Hamad Stadium. The opening minutes were a cagey affair but Jordan gradually began to exert their grip on the game.
After several half chances, the West Asian side finally found the back of the net through forward Odeh Burhan Fakhoury in the 37th minute. It got worse for Hong Kong as they were hit again five minutes later with Mahmoud Mohammad Theeb doubling Jordan’s advantage.
Any hope Hong Kong had of mounting a comeback in the second half were dashed by Abdelrahman Alkhdour’s goal in the 47th minute. Jordan, aware that goal difference could be pivotal, continued to push and were rewarded again through Ibrahim Mohammad Sabra (51st), Omar Khader Joo (60th), Mohammad Ahmed Taha (80th) and Anas Ashraf Alkhob (90th).
On Friday, action will see Jordan playing Singapore while Qatar will face Hong Kong. Team Qatar Shooters return home to a warm welcome
DOHA – Team Qatar's shooters received a festive reception at Hamad International Airport on Wednesday after securing three medals — one silver and two bronze— in the Trap event at the Asian Clay Shooting Cup.
The competition is currently running from September 20 to 30 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
In a statement on Wednesday, Dr. Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr, President of the Qatar Shooting & Archery Association, praised the team's strong performance, stating, "We always strive for excellence. Our ambition is not just to participate, but to stand on the podium."
