Qatar Asian Junior Tennis tournament concludes
The sixth Qatar Asian Junior U16 tournament was concluded at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex recently.
Qatar’s Meshari Nawaf claimed the title of boys' singles event after beating Sannghyk Han 6-0 6-2 in the final match.
Inkar Autova of Kazakhstan hoisted the trophy of girls' singles event after defeating Qatar’s Hind Al Medhiki in the final match.
Meshari Nawaf also teamed up with Ghanim Sultan to win doubles title following their 6-1 6-2 victory over Joonhyuk Han and Sanghyuk in the final match.
The medal ceremony was attended by the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation Secretary General Tariq Zainal.
Zainal congratulated the winners of the event and said the Asian Junior Tournament is an important event on the QTSBF agenda as it brings together a big number of promising Asian players in Doha.
Qatar qualify for 2025 Volleyball World Championship
Doha: The men's first volleyball team have qualified for the finals of the 2025 Volleyball World Championship for the second time in a row after participating in the last edition that was held in Poland and Slovenia in August and September 2022.
The team qualified according to its advanced ranking as it was ranked 21st in the world according to the latest rankings announced by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), in which the Qatari team overcame well-established teams due to the good results achieved in the recent period.
Qatar men's volleyball team have qualified alongside the teams of Japan and Iran to represent the continent of Asia, according to the official announcement of the FIVB and Qatar Volleyball Association's confirmation today that it received a letter from the FIVB stating this.
The Volleyball World Championship is held once every two years.
Team Qatar beat Cambodia 3-0 in friendly
Doha: The Qatar national football team defeated Cambodia 3-0 in their friendly in Doha on Sunday. All of Qatar’s goals were scored by striker Almoez Ali.
The match was part of Qatar’s preparations for the forthcoming AFC Asian Cup 2023. Qatar will play another friendly against Jordan on January 5.
Qatar coach Marquez Lopez played a 4-3-3 coordination having included goalkeeper Saad Al Sheeb, defender Lucas Mendes and Boualem Khoukhi with support from full-backs Homam Al Amin and Pedro Miguel. Abdulaziz Hatem, Mustafa Tariq Mishal and Akram Afif were in the middle, and at the front was the trio of Ahmed Fathi, Almoez Ali and Khaled Munir.
Lopez is scheduled to announce the final list of players who will represent Qatar at the Asian Cup 2023. Defending champions Qatar will begin their campaign on January 12 against Lebanon in Group A which also includes China and Tajikistan.
Qatar to play Cambodia in friendly
Doha: Qatar’s national football team will play a friendly match against Cambodia at the Thani Bin Jassim Stadium on Sunday as part of Team Qatar’s preparations for the forthcoming AFC Asian Cup Doha 2023.
It will be the first friendly for Qatar under new head coach Marquez Lopez. The team will wrap their Asian Cup preparations by meeting Jordan later on January 5.
Coach Lopez stressed on the importance of the friendly match against Cambodia. He told reporters that the match is important and will help in getting a good idea of the general conditions of the players.
In the 26-man list of players, Lopez has summoned Al Wakrah goalkeeper Saud Al Khater, his teammate Mahdi Ali, and Al Duhail defender Sultan Al Breik, for the first time into the national side, while midfielder Assim Madibu and Karim Boudiaf have been excluded.
The Maroons were in action last month, recording a 3-0 win over India in a 2026 World Cup qualification clash while Cambodia lost 1-0 to Pakistan in their first-round World Cup qualifier in October.
Qatar are the defending champions at the AFC Asian Cup and will begin their campaign on January 12 against Lebanon in Group A which also includes China and Tajikistan.
Meanwhile, Felix Dalmas, head coach of the Cambodian national football team, has said that the match against Qatar is a great way for Cambodia’s top talents to raise their profile.
The visitors are likely to provide competitive opposition to Qatar although there is not much experience in their squad, with Soeuy Visal, Sareth Krya and Sos Suhana being the only three players to have represented the national side on more than 13 occasions.
Qatar defeat Algeria in friendly handball tournament
Doha: Qatar’s handball team defeated Algeria 32-25 in the opening match of Qatar International Handball Friendly Tournament organized by the Qatar Handball Association until January 03.
The tournament comes in light of preparations for the 21st Asian Men’s Handball Championship to be staged in Bahrain from January 11 to 25, 2024. The championship serves as a qualifier for the 2025 World Championship in Croatia, Denmark, and Norway.
In the 21st Asian Championship, Team Qatar were drawn in Group 1 alongside Kuwait, Oman, and Chinese Taipei. The top two teams from each group advance to the main round, where eight teams will compete in a league format. The first and second-placed teams from each group will proceed to the semi-finals and qualify directly for the World Championship.
In the previous edition of the Asian Championship held in Saudi Arabia, Qatar secured the title by defeating Bahrain 29-24 in the final match.
Tunisia’s Doughaz wins Arab Masters Tennis Championships
Doha: Tunisia’s Mohamed Aziz Dougaz won the 3rd Arab Masters Tennis Championships, organized by the Qatar Tennis Federation for the first time in Doha, on Thursday defeating Mohamed Hazem of Syria in the final 6-4, 6-2 at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.
The players were awarded by Sheikh Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, President of the Arab Tennis Federation, Tariq Zainal, Secretary-General of Qatar Tennis, Squash & Badminton Federation, and Salma Al Mawlahi, Vice-President, ITF, and President of Tunisian Tennis Federation.
