Cherif, Ahmed win Hamburg Elite16 opener
Hamburg: Qatar’s Olympic bronze medalists Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan prevailed over Polish qualifiers Piotr Kantor and Jakub Zdybek 2-1 (21-12, 18-21, 24-22) in their Pool ‘C’ match of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Hamburg Elite16 yesterday.
The opening day of the main draw for the men featured eight matches at the iconic Am Rothenbaum Stadium, with the winners getting one step closer to the elimination rounds in Germany.

Chinese Taipei - Qatar basketball team have secured their second consecutive victory on Wednesday in the 42nd edition William Jones Cup 2023, which run from 12 to 20 August in Chinese Taipei.
Team Qatar secured a convincing 81-51 win over United Arab Emirates, following their dominant performance on Wednesday. Team Qatar will take on hosts Chinese Taipei (B) team on Thursday.
This tournament is bringing together a number of teams who will compete in the 19th edition of the FIBA World Cup to be held in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines from August 25 to September 10.
Qatar’s Rashid Al-Athba wins Brazzi Championship gold medal
Warsaw: Qatar’s Rashid Hamad Al-Athba won the gold medal of Brazzi International Trap Championship which was held in Poland with participation of 120 shooters.
Al-Athba stressed that the results achieved by the Qatari shooting is a result of the Qatar Olympic Committee’s support to the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association.
Team Qatar beat Philippines in William Jones Cup
Chinese Taipei- The Qatar basketball team have secured their first victory Tuesday in the 42nd edition William Jones Cup 2023 , which run from 12 to 20 August in Chinese Taipei.
Team Qatar produced a solid performance to get better of Philippines 93-86 in the fourth round match of the tournament. Team Qatar will shake hands with United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.
The event is featuring teams who will take part in the 19th edition of the FIBA World Cup which will be held in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines from August 25 to September 10.
Cherif, Ahmed third in World Rankings
Doha: Qatar men’s beach volleyball team including Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, has seized the third place in the World Rankings recently issued by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
Qatar’s team collected (6,580) points while the Norwegian duo Mol and Sorum led the rankings with (9.300) points.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games bronze medalists has achieved many outstanding results in recent years which made the team one of the world’s top teams in the world rankings.
Qatar Volleyball Team move up to world number 19
Lausanne: Qatar Volleyball Team ranked 19 in the world rankings that was updated on Monday by the FIVB.
Team Qatar made a remarkable progress in the global classification after outstanding results the team has made recently, including its qualification for the final of the Volleyball Challenger Cup held in Doha last July after losing to Turkish counterpart at Aspire Zone sports hall.
Polish team topped the rankings with a score of 407.74 points, while US team came second with a score of 375.29 points, with the Italian team ranked third with a score of 359.02 points.
Qatar team is one of the three teams that made a progress in the classification, along with Chile which ranked 22 and the United States ranked second, FIVB pointed out in its official website.
The Qatar team has recently made a progress in the global classification as it was ranked 23 then progressed to 20 and finally ranked 19 after collecting 154.11 points.
