Qatar’s Tamim Al Kuwari tops Africa Triathlon
Agadir: Qatar’s Tamim bin Jamal Al Kuwari claimed the first place in the Africa Triathlon Championships held in the Moroccan city of Agadir on Sunday.
Al Kuwari took the gold medal after leading the standings in 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run.
The Africa Triathlon Championships bring together a huge number of triathletes who participated in Elite, U23, Youth and Junior categories.
Module 2 of Arab Coaching Program concludes
Doha: The Module 2 of Arab Coaching Program (Advanced Level) organized by the Qatar Olympic Academy (QOA) was concluded at the QOA Headquarters on Thursday.
The five-day training course brought together 20 coaches.
The training program aims at applying training methods to different skills in specialized sports, planning training programs and evaluation of training programs in this type of sports.
Team Qatar to take on Chile in Football Friendly
VIENNA, Austria: Qatar’s senior football team all set to shake hands with Chile in a second international friendly in Austrian capital city of Vienna on Tuesday.
A group of 30 players are part of Qatar’s final preparations for more than three months, which included a training camp in Spain besides the ongoing camp in Austria.
After the friendlies, Qatar squad will briefly return home and will hold an open training session on October 2. They will return to Spain for more isolation before the World Cup starts.
Team Qatar will kick off their World Cup campaign with their first Group A match against Ecuador in tournament’s opening game on November 20 at Al Bayt Stadium.
Canada defeats Qatar in Friendly
VIENNA, Austria: Canada beat Qatar a 2-0 in an international friendly at the Franz Horr Stadium in Vienna, Austria on Friday.
Goals by Cyle Larin and Jonathan David in the opening 13 minutes dispelled that as the Canadian men cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win over the World Cup co-host in Vienna, Austria.
Both of Canada’s goals came within the opening 13 minutes in a match both sides used as preparation for November’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Finals.
Qatar, who have been in intensive training behind closed doors, came into the tie eager to produce their best but found Canada equally motivated.
The Canadians, who are ranked 43rd in the FIFA rankings – five places above the reigning Asian champions – got off to a fantastic start with Cyle Larin giving them the lead as early as the fourth minute.
Qatar looked to regroup after the early blow but were hit again in the 13th minute, with Jonathan David widening Canada’s advantage.
Despite their best efforts, there was no coming back for Qatar, who meet Chile in another friendly on Tuesday.

Doha steps up preparations for 2023 World Judo Championships
Doha- Doha is preparing to stage a spectacular edition of World Judo Championships next year from May 07-14, 2023.
A delegation from the International Judo Federation (IJF) began an extensive site visit to Doha in light of the process of coordination that precedes every major championship.
The Vice President and Director General of the local organizing committee, Mr. Khalid bin Hamad Al Attiya stressed that he is confident that Doha would be ready to host the best world's Judokas next years.
“All the big pieces are in place. Our task over the next year is to link all the pieces together as we prepare to stage an innovative and exciting event edition of the world championship." He said.
Mr. Claudiu Chimoiu who led the IJF's team, said that everyone was impressed by Qatar's preparations to host the word championships and hailed the cooperation of LOC members with IJF to provide athletes with world-class facilities.
“We have made good progress in our planning during my visit. One of the goals was to forge closer relationships between key personnel at the LOC and the IJF because that united team will form the foundation for a successful edition of championships after seven months."
Team Qatar to play significant friendly matches ahead of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022
DOHA - The Qatari national football team is preparing for two important friendly matches against Canada and Chile next Friday and Tuesday as part of its preparations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The two matches will be held in Austria during the camp held there since last July, in preparation to face Ecuador in the opening match on November 20 at Al Bayt Stadium.
The appearance of the Qatari team during the pause period listed on the FIFA calendar for the current month of September will be the first since the friendly matches between Bulgaria and Slovenia in Doha on March 26 and 29.
The two confrontations are a real test of the progress of the recent preparations that the team entered according to a program that started in early June after the decision of Qatar Football Association (QFA) to exempt the international players from participating in Qatar League (QNB Stars League), which included playing many unofficial matches outside the framework of FIFAs international windows that it is witnessing a suspension of local leagues.
The Qatari national team lost 3-0 to the Croatian national team yesterday (Tuesday) in an unofficial match, although it comes at the start of the specific agenda during the period between September 19 and 27, as the Croatian national team used some U-23 players, on the other hand coach, Felix Sanchez, decided to include as many players as possible on the list, without relying on a specific squad of key players, in light of the narrow time interval before the matches against Canada and then Chile on Friday and Tuesday.
The friendly matches against Chile and Canada are part of the World Cup direct preparation program, where the Qatari team went through previous stages, the first was a camp in the Spanish city of Marbella last June, while now is in a second camp in Austria.
The Qatari teams mission is scheduled to return to Doha after Chile match scheduled for September 27, where the players will take a short break for three days, before resuming training in a short indoor camp for five days, during which the team will engage in several training sessions, including an open one on October 2.
