Team Qatar swimmers shine in GCC Aquatic Championships
Doha: The Qatar national swimming team shone on the first day of the 28th GCC Aquatic Championships at Hamad Aquatic Complex on Thursday.
In Thursday's competitions, the Qatari swimmers claimed 28 medals including 18 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 5 bronze medals.
The four-day championships will see competitions across three sporting disciplines — swimming, diving and water polo.
The Qatari teams completed their preparations for the tournament, with the swimming and water polo teams attending two camps in Bulgaria, and the diving team setting up camp in Belarus.
QOC Launches Al Adaam Youth Council Initiative
DOHA - The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has announced on Wednesday the launch of its pioneering initiative Al Adaam Youth Council.
Al adaam Youth Council is a representative structure of all youth in Qatar from all nationalities. It will be an active factor engaging in all the sport issues and decisions-making related to the QOC strategies.
This new entity will take a center stage in the planning processes, hosting of the sport events and boosting the social responsibility efforts of the QOC.
The main goal of Al adaam Youth Council is to develop the youth’s made creative initiatives that will help the QOC in making decisions, inscribing sport culture inside the Qatari community, reaching out local youth throughout an elite group of youth elements representing the QOC. Al adaam Youth Council will also help developing the new creative initiatives and ideas to be integrated into the QOC’s current and upcoming processes.
This new-born Council will spare no effort in performing several responsibilities and tasks, at the top of them, promoting the QOC’s strategy, values, goals in the local youth community, enhancing the Olympic values, team Qatar values, encouraging the local youth community to involve in the sport sector, making team Qatar as a kicking-off platform for community participation, performance devotion and opening the non-official reach out channels between the QOC and youth category.
The council will help promoting all the QOC’s social responsibility initiatives inside the local community , encouraging the QOC and its staff to develop creative strategies and plans, transferring the perspectives of Qatari youth about the sport issues to the QOC, working closely and cooperatively with the board of directors, sport federations, local organizing committees, exchanging thoughts with the local youth community and stepping up youth participation in the board activities to maximum level.
A number of standards required for nomination to the Al adaam Youth Council have been defined. The council consists of 10 members representing all youth in Qatar (Qataris and non-Qataris), their ages ranged from 17 to 27 years. The membership will be divided equally between the two genders , in addition to members from people with special needs. Student from the nominated group been approved and selected by the QOC will take the presidency of this council.
GCC Aquatics Championships to begin on Thursday
DOHA- The 28th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Aquatics Championships, organized by the Qatar Swimming Association, will kicks off on Thursday at Hamad Aquatics Centre with the participation of six Gulf countries.
The event's competitions, which will be held from Aug. 19 to 22, will include three aquatic sports: swimming, diving and water polo. All competitions will be held in accordance with the laws of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) and the regulations of the technical committee of the organizing committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The swimming competitions will include the general stages of the age groups (11-12, 13-14, 15-17 years old), and the 10 years old, as the races for the age groups will be held Thursday and Friday, while the public and ten-year races will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
The first day's competition program will include 24 races. The 800m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 400m medley, 100m butterfly and 4x200m freestyle races will be held in the morning for the 15-17 year category, 50m freestyle, 200m medley, 100m butterfly and 200m backstroke for class 13 -14 years age, and 50m freestyle, 200m medley and 100m butterfly for the 11-12 year category, while the evening session will witness the 400 m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke, 200m backstroke, 4 x 100m freestyle races for the 15-17 year category, and 400m freestyle 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke and 4 x 100m for 13-14 years, 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke and 4 x 100m freestyle for 11-12 years.
Diving competitions also will be held for the age groups (11 years and below, 13 years and below, 14-15 years, and the public), while water polo competitions will be held for the age group 18 years and below.
The Qatari teams have completed their preparations for the tournament, where the swimming and water polo teams joined two camps in Bulgaria, while the diving team set up a training camp in Belarus.
The three teams seek to achieve results that reflect the development of the level of Qatari water sports and their prominent presence in the Gulf championships where the Qatari team won first place for the age groups completions in the last four editions of the tournament.
The last edition of the GCC Aquatics Championships was held in Kuwait in 2019, in which the Qatari team won the title of the age groups after winning 34 medals, including 17 gold, in addition to 10 silver and 7 bronze medals. They also won 9 medals (7 gold, a silver and a bronze) in the general stage competitions, and 4 medals (a gold and 3 bronze) in the ten-year stage.
The 28th GCC Aquatics Championships was scheduled for last year 2020, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the GCC Swimming Organizing Committee decided to delay all the championships included in the 2020 calendar to be held this year.
Team Qatar begin external training camp ahead of Asian Volleyball Championship
DOHA: The delegation of the Qatari men first volleyball team left on Monday for Slovenia to set up an external camp that will be held between August 16 and 28, in preparation for the 21st Asian Championship to be held in Japan next September with the participation of 16 teams.
During the external camp, the Qatari team will hold a number of friendly matches, most notably with the Slovenia national team, before heading to Japan next September to participate in the Asian Championship.
The draw for the Asian Championship placed Qatar in the first group, which includes Japan, India and Bahrain. This group was classified as one of the strongest groups in the tournament.
The Qatari team will start their journey in the tournament against Japan on September 12, then the Indian team on the 13th, before concluding their matches in the first round on September 14 against the Bahraini national team.
This is the first Asian participation for the Qatari team since the last foreign participation in 2019, which was held in the Iranian capital, Tehran. The team was supposed to participate in the Gulf Games last year 2020, but the tournament was postponed due to the current health conditions imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
Sanchez announces Qatar squad for European qualifiers
Vienna: Team Qatar's Coach Felix Sanchez on Monday announced a 31-member squad ahead of the UEFA European qualifiers to be resumed on September 01.
Team Qatar will take on Serbia on September 01, then Portugal in tough encounter on September 4 before facing Luxembourg on September 7.
Team Qatar began their European qualifiers campaign in March, where they secured two consecutive victories beating Luxembourg 1-0 and Azerbaijan 2-1 then they shared points with Ireland after a 1-1 draw to collect seven points.

Team Qatar finish second in Arab Table Tennis Championships
Amman: Qatar's national table tennis team claimed 19 medals in 2021 Arab Table Tennis Championships concluded in Amman Jordan on Monday to take the second place in the overall standings of the event.
Qatar’s Ahmed Khaleel Al Mohannadi and Mohamed Abdulwahab cruised to victory in the men’s doubles competition on Monday.
Al Mohannadi and Abdulwahab ousted Bahrain’s Muhammad Saleh and Elias Eliasi 15-13, 11-6, 11-3 in the final in Amman, Jordan.
Qatari paddlers returned with a host of medals in the age group categories on the day.
The under-13 duo of Sultan Al Kuwari and Ahmed Eid settled for a silver, going down to their Tunisian opponents in the final. In the under-11 category, Qatar’s Abdulaziz Al Abdullah and Mohammed Al Sulaiti also settled for silver.
The under-19 pair of Ahmed Jabbar and Abdullah Abdul Wahab also finished with a silver on the day.
Qatar’s bronze medals came in the under-15 categories. Khalid Al Yafei and Ruwad Al Nasser placed third in the boys event while Maryam Ali and Shawq Al Abdullah finished third in the girls competition.
