AICHI-NAGOYA, Japan – Team Qatar continued its impressive medal-winning campaign at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 as Mohammed Al-Rumaihi and Ray Bassil secured the silver medal in the mixed trap event on Tuesday.
The Qatari pair delivered a strong performance, hitting 32 targets to finish second and add another medal to Qatar’s impressive shooting haul at the Games.
India’s Kynan Chenai and Neeru claimed the gold medal after topping the competition with 34 targets, while China’s Qi Ying and Sun Yunong took bronze with 24 targets.
Al-Rumaihi and Bassil’s silver brought Qatar’s shooting medal tally at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 to four medals – two gold and two silver.
Qatar’s medal-winning campaign in shooting began with Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah, Rashid Saleh Al-Athba and Ali Ahmed Al-Ishaq securing gold in the men’s team skeet event.
Al-Athba then added individual skeet gold to Qatar’s tally, setting a new Asian record in the process, before Al-Rumaihi, Saeed Hamad Abu Sharib and Angelo Scalzone claimed silver in the men’s team trap event.
With the latest shooting medal, Team Qatar’s overall tally at the Games rose to 13 medals – three gold, six silver and four bronze.
Shooting competition at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 concludes today with the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event, in which Qatar will be represented by Mohammed Nasser Al-Yafei.
Dr. Mishal Al-Nasr, President of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, praised the Qatari shooters for their latest achievement and dedicated their success to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, and H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, in recognition of their continued support for Qatari sport.
“We congratulate Mohammed Al-Rumaihi and Ray Bassil on winning the silver medal in the mixed trap event,” Al-Nasr said. “We are proud that Team Qatar shooting has won four medals – two gold and two silver – at this edition of the Asian Games. This further underlines why our federation truly deserves to be known as the ‘Golden Federation’.”
Al-Nasr also commended the efforts of the athletes and the technical and administrative teams, stressing that their collective work had contributed to the outstanding results and helped raise the Qatari flag high at the Games.
Jassim Al-Sulaiti, Secretary General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, also expressed his pride in the latest achievement, praising the athletes and technical and administrative staff for their efforts throughout the preparation period.
“We congratulate our champions on this outstanding achievement, which is the result of the tremendous efforts made by the athletes and the technical and administrative staff throughout the past period,” Al-Sulaiti said. “What has been achieved at this edition of the Asian Games confirms the position Qatar shooting has reached.” He added: “We are proud of what Team Qatar shooting has achieved in Aichi-Nagoya, winning four medals – two gold and two silver. This achievement reflects teamwork, sustained preparation and continuous planning aimed at developing the sport and achieving further success.”
