Manama: Qatar national fencing team member Adham Al Deeb claimed silver in the individual foil event at the Asian Junior Fencing Championships in the Bahraini capital, Manama, after a thrilling final against the tournament’s top seed, Hong Kong’s Lau Kenji Tsun Yin. The closely contested encounter was decided by a single touch, with Lau winning 15–14.
Al Deeb displayed impressive form throughout the tournament, reaching the final against the leading title contender in a match that remained fiercely competitive until the last touch. His silver medal marks an important achievement for Qatari fencing at the continental level, demonstrating the ability of Qatar’s athletes to challenge Asia’s best and compete for medals.
Qatar’s achievements extended beyond the silver medal, with three national team members—Khalid Aref, Abdulla Ismail and Adham Al Deeb—reaching the individual quarter-finals. Their performances highlighted the progress of Qatar’s emerging generation of fencers and its growing pool of national talent. Abdulrahman Bualghareeb also stood out with an exceptional performance during the tournament.
The achievement supports a key pillar of the Qatar Fencing Federation’s strategy: competing internationally and securing podium finishes. The federation commended the dedication and efforts of the athletes, coaches and administrative staff.
The team’s performance also reflects the strong partnership between Aspire Academy and the Qatar Fencing Federation, and the long-term planning undertaken by both organisations.
“This is only the beginning for both organisations, and we look forward to achieving more,” the federation said.
Following the conclusion of the individual events, Qatar will now prepare for the team foil competition, aiming to build on their positive results. The Qatar Fencing Federation wished the team every success as they continue to establish themselves as contenders for medals at continental and international competitions.
