The Qatar Winter Sports Committee shows how ice and snow disciplines can develop in a Gulf environment through indoor facilities and long-term planning. Since 2010, it has built activity in ice hockey, figure skating, and skiing, including Qatar’s first Asian Winter Games participation.
The committee uses indoor ice facilities to support year-round training in ice hockey, figure skating, and skiing. Membership in the IIHF in 2012 and FIS in 2024 connected Qatar more directly to the international winter sport system.
Qatar participated in the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo, its first winter multi-sport event. Ice hockey is currently the most developed discipline, supported by a local league and indoor rinks in Doha.
The committee’s next step is to build a small but sustainable athlete base and increase international exposure.
