Tokyo: Qatar’s senior men’s volleyball team lost 3–0 to Thailand in their opening match of the 2026 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship, currently underway in Fukuoka, Japan, and continuing until September 14.
Thailand secured the victory in straight sets, 25–22, 25–19, 25–14, in the opening round of Pool C.
In the other Pool C match, South Korea defeated Chinese Taipei 3–0.
Qatar will return to action on Sunday when they face Chinese Taipei in their second pool match, looking to bounce back from their opening defeat and record their first victory of the championship.
Team Qatar will then conclude the pool stage against South Korea on September 8.
The top two teams from each pool, along with the best third-placed team, will advance to the quarterfinals.
Qatar will be aiming to secure a place in the knockout stage as they continue their preparations for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, which will be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4.
