Qatar Junior Open Squash Championship Gets Underway Tuesday

Doha:  The 2026 Qatar Junior Open Squash Championship will get underway on Tuesday at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, bringing together promising young players from Qatar and several other countries.Organized by the Qatar Squash Federation under the umbrella of the Asian Squash Federation, the three-day championship will feature competitions across four age categories: Under-11, Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17.Championship Director Saad Al Muhannadi said the tournament forms part of the Qatar Squash Federation’s efforts to develop young Qatari players by providing them with greater competitive experience.“We are keen to give our players as much competitive exposure as possible, as their development requires regular match play and the opportunity to compete against opponents of different levels and playing styles,” Al Muhannadi said.He added that the Federation’s objectives extend beyond achieving results in a single tournament, with the focus on developing a new generation of players capable of progressing, competing at a high level and representing Qatar in future events.Al Muhannadi also highlighted the championship’s role in supporting the growth of squash and expanding the sport’s participation base in Qatar. 

Tunisia and Egypt Advance to Round of 16 at FIVB Boys’ U17 World Championship – Doha 2026

Doha: Tunisia and Egypt secured their places in the Round of 16 at the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17 World Championship – Doha 2026, following Sunday’s group-stage action.Tunisia finished second in Group A with six points after defeating hosts Qatar 3–0 in the final round, winning 25–15, 25–18 and 25–17.Qatar concluded their group-stage campaign following matches against Venezuela, France and Tunisia. Their first appearance at the World Championship provided the young squad with valuable international experience and exposure to different styles of play.In Group C, Brazil maintained their unbeaten run with a 3–0 victory over Argentina (25–19, 25–15, 25–21), taking their tally to eight points and securing top spot. Poland followed with four points, Argentina had three, while Mexico remained without a point.Egypt also booked their place in the Round of 16 following a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Spain in Group D. The Egyptian side prevailed 25–18, 21–25, 27–25, 19–25 and 15–10 to move to four points, level with Türkiye. Bulgaria led the group with six points and had already secured qualification, while Spain were eliminated.In Group E, Iran continued their perfect campaign with a third consecutive victory, defeating Chinese Taipei 3–0 (25–15, 25–21, 25–17). Iran moved to nine points from three matches, while Pakistan stood second with three points, followed by Chinese Taipei with two and Algeria with one.The remaining Group D and Group E fixtures will be completed on Monday, with Algeria facing Pakistan at the Women’s Sports Hall in Aspire Zone and Türkiye taking on Bulgaria at Al Arabi Sports Club Hall.Monday’s schedule will also feature several remaining group-stage matches, including France against Venezuela, India against Romania, and Mexico against Poland.The results will determine the remaining Round of 16 places and the final group standings before the championship moves into the knockout stage, with the final scheduled for August 29. 

Qatar Men’s and Women’s 3x3 Teams Continue FIBA Nations League Campaign in Singapore

Singapore : Qatar’s U23 men’s and women’s 3x3 basketball teams continue their participation in the FIBA 3x3 Youth Nations League 2026 – Asia West/Pacific, being held in Singapore from August 20 to 26.The competition features a series of six stops, providing Qatar’s young players with valuable international experience against strong teams from across the region.The men’s team comprises Mohammed Ahmed, Abdulrahman Ashraf, Mubarak Jama and Issa Radi.Qatar opened Stop 1 on August 20 with a 15–9 defeat to Turkmenistan before losing 21–11 to Australia. In Stop 2, the team fell 14–8 to Bahrain before producing a competitive display against Saudi Arabia, narrowly losing 19–17.In Stop 3, Qatar faced Turkmenistan again, losing 21–12, before Saudi Arabia secured a 17–13 victory in the second match.The men’s team will continue its campaign in Stop 4 on August 24, facing Turkmenistan at 8:55 a.m. Doha time before taking on Australia at 10:45 a.m.Stop 5 will see Qatar meet Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on August 25, before concluding the competition in Stop 6 on August 26 with matches against Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia.Meanwhile, Qatar’s women’s team features Dima Khalid, Sara Zayed, Dana Al-Sayed and Fatima Jamal.The team began its campaign in Stop 1 against Australia, losing 21–2, before falling 21–6 to Turkmenistan. In Stop 2, Qatar faced Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, with the two matches ending 21–5 and 21–4 respectively.Qatar returned to action in Stop 3 against Australia, who won 21–3, before Bahrain recorded a 21–6 victory in the second match.The women’s team will compete in Stop 4 on August 24, facing Australia at 8:30 a.m. Doha time before meeting Turkmenistan at 10:20 a.m.Their campaign will continue in Stop 5 on August 25 against Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, before concluding the sixth and final stop on August 26 with matches against Australia and Bahrain.Qatar’s participation in the Nations League forms part of efforts to provide young players with greater international exposure, enhance their competitive experience and support the continued development of 3x3 basketball in the country. 

Qatar U19 Handball Team Advance to Asian Championship Quarterfinals

Amman:  Qatar’s U19 handball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 11th Asian Men’s U19 Handball Championship after defeating Syria 42–29 in their final Group B match on Monday.The victory completed a perfect group-stage campaign for Team Qatar, who finished top of Group B with eight points from four consecutive wins.Qatar began their campaign with a 30–22 victory over Saudi Arabia before defeating Kuwait 30–19 in the second round. They maintained their winning run with a hard-fought 24–22 victory over Iran, before wrapping up the group stage with an emphatic win over Syria.The Qatari team will now turn their attention to the quarterfinals as they look to maintain their unbeaten run and continue their challenge for the continental title.Qatar’s strong group-stage campaign further underlines the continued development of Qatari handball and the national team’s competitive presence on the Asian stage. 

Qatar U19 Handball Team Defeat Iran for Third Straight Win at Asian Championship

Amman: Qatar’s U19 handball team continued their winning run at the 11th Asian Men’s U19 Handball Championship with a 24–22 victory over Iran in their third Group B match on Sunday.Qatar prevailed in a closely contested encounter, showing tactical discipline, attacking efficiency and defensive solidity to secure the two-goal victory.The win was Qatar’s third in as many matches. They opened their campaign with a 30–22 victory over Saudi Arabia before defeating Kuwait 30–19 in their second group fixture.With the result, Qatar moved to six points at the top of Group B and will look to complete an unbeaten group-stage campaign when they face Syria on Monday in their fourth and final match.The championship is being held in Amman, Jordan, and continues until August 31.

Team Qatar Face Iran in Asian Men’s U19 Handball Championship

Amman : Qatar’s U19 handball team will face Iran on Sunday in their third Group B match at the Asian Men’s U19 Handball Championship, currently taking place in the Jordanian capital, Amman, until August 31.Team Qatar will be aiming for their third consecutive victory following a strong start to the tournament. They opened their campaign with a 30–22 win over Saudi Arabia before defeating Kuwait 30–19 in their second match.Qatar will conclude their group-stage campaign against Syria on Monday in the fourth and final round.The Qatari team will be looking to maintain their positive run of results as they continue their bid for the continental title and seek to further strengthen Qatar handball’s presence on the Asian stage.
