OCA, CANOC Sign Cooperation Agreement Promoting Closer Sporting Ties

Barcelona, (QNA) - The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) have signed an agreement to foster closer sporting ties between the two regions.OCA President, HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani signed on behalf of the Asian governing body while CANOC President Keith Joseph signed on behalf of the Caribbean NOCs.The agreement, which was signed in Barcelona, Spain on Friday, August 7, stipulates the exchange of expertise in organizing sports events, developing athletes and benefiting from sports expertise, in addition to organizing joint scientific sports seminars and conferences between the two sides. 

Abdulrahman Ibrahim Advances to Hammer Throw Final at World Athletics U20 Championships

Washington - Qatar national athletics team member Abdulrahman Ibrahim qualified today for the final of the hammer throw in his first appearance at the World Athletics U20 Championships, currently being held in the United States.Abdulrahman recorded a throw of 71.70 meters to secure a place in the final and will compete for one of the medals.Qatar was represented at the championships by six athletes: Abdullah Al Abdullah in the pole vault, Abdulrahman Al Malki in the high jump, Abdulrahman Ibrahim in the hammer throw, Hamad Dhawi in the discus throw, Yousef Abdulaziz in the 400 meters, and Mohammed Waheed in the 1,500 meters.The hammer throw final will be held Friday, while Yousef Abdulaziz will compete in the 400-meter event on the same day.

Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Set to Compete in London Leg of Longines Global Champions Tour

DOHA  – Qatari show jumper Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al Thani will return to action at the Longines Global Champions Tour and Global Champions League, with the prestigious event’s 10th leg taking place from August 7 to 9 at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, United Kingdom.The London leg will bring together the world’s leading riders and some of the finest horses in the sport, as Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al Thani competes in both the individual competition and the team event as part of the Doha Falcons. The Qatari team will battle against 16 other teams for titles and prize money exceeding £1.5 million, including a record £1 million for the feature Grand Prix, the richest prize in the tour’s history. Amman, Jordan – Qatar's men's beach volleyball team continued its impressive start at the inaugural West Asia Beach Volleyball Tour, securing a hard-fought second consecutive victory after defeating Iraq 2-1 on Wednesday.Represented by Musa Al Khair and Mohammed Ehab, Team Qatar showcased remarkable resilience to overturn an early setback. After dropping the opening set 15-21, the duo responded in commanding fashion, cruising to a 21-11 victory in the second set before dominating the decider 15-5 to seal the match and extend their winning streak.The victory follows Qatar's convincing opening-round performance, where Al Khair and Ehab defeated Saudi Arabia in straight sets 25-13, 21-10, strengthening their position in the tournament and maintaining positive momentum in the regional competition.

West Asia Beach Volleyball Tour Kicks Off with Qatar’s Men’s and Women’s Teams in Action

Amman, Jordan – Qatar’s men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams have begun their journey in the first-ever West Asia Beach Volleyball Tour, hosted by Jordan from 3 to 8 August, alongside leading teams from across the region competing in this exciting new regional championship.Following the arrival of all participating delegations, the Organising Committee completed the official welcoming procedures, technical meeting, and tournament draw, setting the stage for a highly competitive week of beach volleyball action.The competition is taking place at the Princess Aya Bint Faisal Beach Volleyball Courts at Al Hussein Youth City, with the venue fully prepared to deliver a world-class sporting experience and provide the best possible conditions for all participating teams.Representing Qatar in the men’s competition are Musa Al Khair and Mohammed Ehab, while Leila Mohammed and Malak Mohammed carry Qatar’s hopes in the women’s event. QAF Names Six-Athlete Squad for World Athletics U20 Championships

DOHA – The Qatar Athletics Federation (QAF) has announced a six-member national team that will represent the country at the World Athletics U20 Championships, scheduled to take place in Oregon, USA, from August 5 to 9.The squad features four field athletes: Abdullah Al Abdullah (Pole Vault), Abdulrahman Al Malki (High Jump), Abdulrahman Ibrahim (Hammer Throw), and Hamad Dawi (Discus Throw). They will be joined by two track athletes: Yusuf Abdulaziz in the 400 metres and Mohammed Waheed in the 1,500 metres.QAF confirmed that the team's preparations have been successfully completed, with the athletes aiming to deliver strong performances, achieve the best possible results, and build on the continued success of Qatari athletics on the international stage.As part of its preparations, the federation organized overseas training camps across Europe and Africa in recent months, providing the athletes with high-level training and competitive exposure to enhance their readiness for the championship and strengthen their prospects of securing podium finishes.
