Team Qatar Win Five Medals on Third Day of Athletics Competitions at GCC Games

Doha: Team Qatar won five medals yesterday — including two gold and three silver medals — on the third day of the athletics competitions at Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium at Qatar Sports Club, as part of the 4th GCC Games Doha 2026, which continue until May 22 with the participation of 1,400 male and female athletes representing six GCC countries across 17 sports.The medals came through Abdulrahman Samba, who claimed gold in the men’s 400m hurdles, and Sara Ali, who secured gold in the women’s 400m hurdles.Bassem Humaida won silver in the men’s 400m hurdles, while Samar Al Mansouri claimed silver in the women’s triple jump event.Team Qatar’s mixed 4x400m relay team, consisting of Ammar Ibrahim, Ashraf Othman, Shahad Mohammed, and Awatif Sabah, also secured the silver medal.Sara Ali’s gold medal in the women’s 400m hurdles marked her second gold medal of the Games after previously winning the women’s 100m hurdles title on the opening day of the competition.Likewise, Samar Al Mansouri’s silver medal was her second medal of the Games following her gold medal in the women’s pole vault on the second day.With the results of the third day, Qatar athletics raised its overall tally to 25 medals, including 10 gold, nine silver, and six bronze medals.Team Qatar athletics is aiming for further success in today’s final day competitions, which feature several events including the 4x400m relay, discus throw, and the 100m and 200m sprint races.

Gold and Bronze for Team Qatar in Mixed Doubles Table Tennis at GCC Games

Doha:  Team Qatar table tennis players won two medals — one gold and one bronze — in the mixed doubles category on the penultimate day of the table tennis competitions at the 4th GCC Games currently taking place in Doha and continuing until May 22.The Qatari duo Mohammed Abdulwahab and Aya Mohammed secured the gold medal after defeating the UAE pair Ali Al Hawai and Noura Al Mazmi 3-0 in the final.Meanwhile, Team Qatar players Abdullah Abdulwahab and Mariam Ali claimed the bronze medal after defeating Bahrain’s Rashid Khalid Sanad and Rayan Emad 3-0 in the third-place playoff match.The table tennis competitions continue today with the third-place matches in the men’s singles, women’s singles, and men’s doubles categories, followed by the men’s singles final featuring an all-Saudi clash, the women’s singles final between Qatar’s Aya Mohammed and Mariam Ali, and the men’s doubles final between Qatar’s Mohammed Abdulwahab and Abdullah Abdulwahab against Saudi Arabia’s Ali Al Khudrawi and Abdulaziz Boushalibi, before the curtain falls on the table tennis competitions with the medal ceremonies across all categories.Meanwhile, Team Qatar bowling players won four medals yesterday — one gold, two silver, and one bronze — in the all-events standings and team competitions on the penultimate day of the bowling events at the 4th GCC Games.In the all-events standings, Team Qatar bowlers dominated the top three positions ahead of competitors from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, and Kuwait. Badr Khalid Al Sada won the gold medal after topping the standings with a total of 5,009 points accumulated across the singles, doubles, trio, and team events. Jassim Al Marikhi secured silver with 4,995 points, while Talal Al Marri claimed bronze with 4,896 points.The medal ceremony for the Qatari players was attended by Salman Abdullah Abdul Ghani, Honorary President of the Qatar Bowling Federation, and Salem Ahmed Al Marzouqi, Board Member of the Qatar Bowling Federation.In the team event, Team Qatar — comprising Talal Al Marri, Abdulrahman Al Dosari, Badr Al Sada, Jassim Al Marikhi, Abdullah Al Dosari, and Ahmed Al Darwish — secured silver after collecting 5,719 points. Saudi Arabia claimed gold with 5,735 points, while the UAE won bronze with 5,650 points.The winners in the team event were crowned by Salah Al Jaidi, Vice President of the UAE Bowling Federation, and Saeed Al Hajri, Board Member of the Qatar Bowling Federation.In billiards and snooker, Team Qatar player Ali Al Obaidli won the silver medal in the 6-red snooker competition after losing 3-4 to Kuwait’s Ammar Taqi in a highly competitive final that was decided in the final frame.Al Obaidli had reached the final after an impressive campaign, beginning with topping Group A following consecutive victories over Kuwait’s Ammar Taqi 4-3 and Oman’s Sami Al Hamrashdi 4-1.In the quarter-finals, the Qatari player continued his strong run with a 4-0 victory over Bahrain’s Hisham Al Saqr before defeating another Bahraini player, Habib Sabah, 4-2 in the semi-finals.Qatar’s Ahmed Saif also competed in the same event and topped Group C after defeating Bahrain’s Hisham Al Saqr 4-2 before losing 3-4 to Saudi Arabia’s Ayman Al Omari.However, Saif’s campaign ended in the quarter-finals after another close 3-4 defeat to Kuwait’s Ammar Taqi.The 6-red snooker competition featured 12 players representing Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, and Oman, with two players from each country divided into four groups.Team Qatar is represented in the billiards and snooker competitions by Ali Al Obaidli, Muhanna Al Obaidli, Mansour Al Obaidli, Ahmed Saif, Bashar Hussein, Mishal Turki Al Ali, and Abdul Latif Al Fawal.In handball, Team Qatar defeated Kuwait 34-19 yesterday at Duhail Sports Hall to secure its second consecutive victory following its opening win over the UAE 28-20, lifting its tally to four points at the top of the standings.Qatar is scheduled to face Bahrain next Tuesday in its third match of the tournament.In another match played yesterday, Saudi Arabia defeated the UAE 34-21."All participating handball teams will enjoy a rest day today before the competition resumes tomorrow, Monday, with Bahrain facing Saudi Arabia and Kuwait taking on the UAE.It is worth noting that Team Qatar handball won the gold medal at the third GCC Games held in Kuwait in 2022.Meanwhile, Team Qatar men’s volleyball team defeated the UAE 3-0 yesterday in its opening match at the GCC Games Doha 2026.The Qatari team delivered a strong performance and dominated most stages of the match to secure victory with set scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-13 at Aspire Sports Hall.Team Qatar is scheduled to face Oman today, Sunday, in the second round of the competition, while the UAE will take on Bahrain.In the opening round, Bahrain defeated Oman 3-0 with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-18. 

Team Qatar Win Two Gold Medals in Shooting Competitions at GCC Games

Doha: Qatar shooting continued their impressive run on the second day of the shooting competitions at the 4th GCC Games currently taking place in Doha and running until May 22.The Team Qatar shooting duo Abdullah Al Sunaidi and Al Maha Al Ali won the gold medal in the mixed team 10m air rifle event after finishing first in the final round. Oman’s Salem Al Nabi and Al Anoud Al Khalili secured the silver medal, while the UAE pair Fatima Al Suwaidi and Salem Al Yamahi claimed bronze.In the mixed skeet team competition, the Qatari duo Rashid Saleh Al Athba and Reem Al Sharshani won the gold medal, while Kuwait’s Saud Al Kandari and Afrah Al Mohammad secured silver. Bahrain’s Tamer Al Watae and Maryam Al Aasam claimed the bronze medal.Team Qatar shooting had already won nine medals on the opening day of the competition, including three gold, one silver, and five bronze medals, and is aiming to continue achieving further success in the remaining events of the Games.With these results, Team Qatar shooting raised its overall tally to 11 medals, including five gold, one silver, and five bronze medals.The shooting competitions at the 4th GCC Games will continue next Tuesday with the finals of the men’s and women’s trap individual events, before concluding next Wednesday with the mixed team trap final.

Qatar’s Ouisal Ikhlef Wins Three Medals at Asian Weightlifting Championships

Gandhinagar, India:  Qatar weightlifter Ouisal Ikhlef achieved a major milestone after winning three medals at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships for Men and Women, which concluded today in Gandhinagar, India, with the participation of 172 athletes representing 28 national federations in one of the strongest editions of the continental championship.Ouisal claimed two silver medals and one bronze medal in the women’s +86kg category after delivering outstanding technical performances despite fierce competition against athletes from some of the world’s leading weightlifting nations, particularly China, North Korea, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, giving Qatar’s medals significant continental and international value.The Qatari athlete secured her achievement following a strong performance throughout all stages of the competition. In the snatch event, she lifted 130kg to win the bronze medal.In the clean and jerk event, Ouisal lifted 169kg to break her personal record of 161kg and claim the silver medal. She also improved her total score to 299kg, surpassing her previous personal best of 277kg to secure another silver medal in the overall standings.The Qatari weightlifter faced strong competition from the world’s top two ranked athletes. China’s Li Yan, ranked number one in the world, won all three gold medals with lifts of 145kg in the snatch, 178kg in the clean and jerk, and a total of 323kg.Meanwhile, world number two Park Hyejeong of South Korea secured silver in the snatch with 131kg, while winning bronze in the clean and jerk with 167kg and bronze in the total with 298kg.

Team Qatar Volleyball Secure Medal at GCC Games After Second Consecutive Victory

Doha: Team Qatar men’s volleyball team secured at least a medal in the volleyball competition after recording their second consecutive victory with a straight-sets win over Oman at the 4th GCC Games Doha 2026, currently taking place in Doha and continuing until May 22, with the participation of 1,400 male and female athletes representing six GCC countries across 17 sports.Team Qatar won the match in straight sets with scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-13.The Qatari team delivered a strong performance against Oman and managed to close out the match quickly by relying on a solid blocking system and powerful spikes that made the task easier for the players, particularly in the second and third sets.In another match during the same round, Bahrain also secured their second consecutive victory after defeating the UAE in straight sets.Following the conclusion of the second round of the competition, which features four teams competing in a single round-robin format, Team Qatar and Bahrain shared top spot in the standings with six points each, while the UAE and Oman remained without points.The third and final round of the volleyball competition will take place tomorrow, Monday, with Team Qatar facing Bahrain in a decisive match for the gold medal, while the losing side will receive the silver medal.Another match will also take place between Kuwait and the UAE to determine third place in the overall standings and the bronze medal.

Team Qatar Athletes Maintain Lead in GCC Games Medal Standings with 109 Medals

Doha:  Qatar continued to lead the overall medal standings at the conclusion of the sixth day of competitions at the 4th GCC Games Doha 2026, currently taking place in Doha and continuing until May 22.Qatar’s medal tally has now reached 109 medals, including 39 gold, 38 silver, and 32 bronze medals. Team Qatar added 13 medals today — including three gold, six silver, and four bronze medals — in athletics, bowling, and table tennis competitions.Saudi Arabia ranked second with 61 medals, including 24 gold, 19 silver, and 18 bronze medals, while Bahrain came third with 54 medals, including 22 gold, 20 silver, and 12 bronze medals.Oman maintained fourth place after increasing their tally to 25 medals, including 10 gold, four silver, and 11 bronze medals, while the UAE ranked fifth with 44 medals, including eight gold, 15 silver, and 21 bronze medals.Kuwait came sixth with 41 medals, including seven gold, 12 silver, and 22 bronze medals.The 4th GCC Games will continue tomorrow, Monday, on the seventh day of competition, featuring events in snooker, padel, volleyball, and handball.
