Team Qatar to take on Jordan in U-17 Arab Volleyball Tournament
DOHA – Team Qatar will begin campaign in U-17 Arab Volleyball Tournament 2024 against hosts Jordan on July 3 in Amman , capital city of Jordan.
Team Qatar will shake hands with Libya in the second game of the tournament to be held on July 4.
This tournament is hosted by Jordan from 1st to 13 of July and will bring together seven Arab countries, including Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain , Iraq , Libya and hosts Jordan.
Team Qatar to take on Egypt in FIVB Challenger Cup in July
LAUSANNE June 23 (QNA) - The Qatar men's national volleyball team will begin its campaign in the FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup 2024 by facing off Egypt on July 5.
This became known following the International Volleyball Federation, officially: Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB)'s publishing of the competition schedule for the tournament, which will take place in China from 4 to 7 July.
Qatar's qualification for the FIVB Challenger Cup came after they emerged as 2024 Asian Men's Volleyball Challenge Cup champion, after defeating Pakistan 3-0.
The tournament will see the participation of the following eight teams ranked in descending order: China, Belgium, Ukraine, Egypt, Qatar, Chile, Croatia, and Mexico.
This round will see Croatia compete against Belgium, followed by China facing off Mexico on July 4, while Chile and Ukraine play on July 5.
Qatar beach handball team to feature at World Games
DOHA - Qatar beach handball team sealed their place in next year's World Games, courtesy to their dominance in Asia and a 10th place finish in the Men's Beach Handball World Championships which concluded in Pingtan Island, China on Sunday.
The 12th edition of the World Games will take place from 7 to 17 August 2025 in Chengdu, China with a total of 3,600 athletes representing 100 countries expected to participate in 34 disciplines during the extravaganza.
The six-time Asian champions Qatar will make their fourth appearance in the multi-sport event having secured a silver medal in Birmingham, Alabama, United States two years ago. They also won a bronze medal in Wroclaw, Poland in 2017 after they finished fourth in their debut appearance in 2013.
Al Annabi, who won the IHF Beach Handball Global Tour title last November at home, will hope for an improved show following their performance at the World Championships.
After clearing the preliminary stage in the Pingtan Island, Qatar failed to clear the Main Round and had to compete in classification matches. They eventually lost the Ninth-place match to Uruguay 1:2 settling on 10th place. They had defeated Tunisia 2:1 to secure the play-off on Saturday.
The best teams from their continents, who finished in the top 12 of the Beach Handball World Championships, have qualified for the World Games.
Besides hosts China and Qatar, the men’s beach handball event at the World Games will see Croatia, Denmark, Portugal, Germany, Brazil and Tunisia battling for top honours. Germany, Argentina, Netherlands, Denmark, Vietnam, Spain and Portugal apart from the home nation will compete for the women's title.
QOC celebrates International Olympic Day 2024
DOHA - The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) in cooperation with the Qatar Winter Sports Committee (QWSC) celebrated on Sunday, the International Olympic Day 2024, which falls on June 23 of each year, the date when the International Olympic Committee was founded in 1894.
On this occasion, the QOC and QWSC organized most popular winter sport events for men and women of all ages , including Figure Skating, Free Skate, Ice Hockey, Short Speed Skating and Curling at Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena.
Also talented ice skaters and amateurs of these winter sports have showcased their high technical performance during this event to impress all attendees and guests.
The Olympic Day event has seen a big turnout from society individuals, they enjoyed memorable moments, knew more about values, history of Olympic movement and the growing role of sport in promoting messages of peace, love and in bringing nations together.
Guests from Palestine attended the Olympic Day , in coordination with Ministry of Social Development and Family. They were impressed by the event, its objectives and sportsmanship prevailed between all .
On the sidelines of the event , the QWSC Secretary General Hassan Hassam Al Hababi honored the late Qatar Ice Hockey star, Thawab Al-Subaie with a memorial shield has been received by his mother and brother.
The Qatar Olympic Committee aims through organizing this event to encourage different segments of society to adopt ideal healthy lifestyles, to shed light on the importance of the values and principles of the Olympic movement, and to raise awareness of the importance of sport in Qatar and the world as a whole.
This year's Olympic Day is a very special one, taking place just ahead of Paris 2024. The athletes, the fans and the entire Olympic community around the world are all looking forward to Olympic Games that are younger, more inclusive, more urban, and more sustainable.
Team Qatar beat Australia and Tunisia at Beach Handball World Championship
PINGTAN, China, (QNA) - The Qatari beach handball team secured two consecutive victories on Sunday, overcoming Australia and Tunisia, in the placement matches of the ongoing Beach Handball World Championship on Pingtan Island, China.
The Qatari team triumphed over Australia with a 2-0 score in the matches determining the 9th to 16th positions. They then edged past Tunisia with a 2-1 victory in the matches determining the 9th to 12th positions. Team Qatar are scheduled to face Uruguay on Sunday, in the match for the 9th and 10th places in the tournament.
Earlier, Qatar advanced to the main round after finishing third in Group D of the preliminary round, earning two points from a 2-0 victory against Uruguay, despite losing to the USA (1-2) and Germany (0-2).
In the main round, Qatar faced three losses: against Croatia (0-2), Argentina (1-2), and Portugal (1-2).
Qatari Beach Volleyball Team Ranked 14th in Global Classification
Lausanne (QNA) - The Qatari men's beach volleyball team, consisting of the duo Ahmed Tejan and Sherif Younis were ranked 14th in the global classification that was recently issued by FIVB.
The team collected 5,800 points reaped from the recent participation in international tournaments over the past period, with the Swedish duo David Ahlmann and Jonatan Hellvig toping the world rankings with 8,140 points, followed by the Brazilian duo with 7,640 points.
The Qatari men's beach volleyball team (Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan) ranked 12th in the Olympic classification, thus capturing the direct qualification card to participate in the forthcoming Olympic Games Paris 2024.
