Qatar Weightlifting Cup Championship to kick off on Monday
DOHA - The competitions of the Qatar Weightlifting Cup Championship 2023 (Men & Women) will get underway at the Qatar’s Women sport Aren on Monday.
The Championship is a qualifying tournament for Paris 2024 Summer Olympics and will take place from 4th to 14th of December
This championship is bringing together 382 weightlifters, representing 96 countries will compete for top honors in 10 weight classes.
Qatar jump to 58th in FIFA Rankings
Doha: A flying start to the joint qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 helped Asian champions Qatar jumped three places up to 58th spot in the FIFA Rankings, announced on Thursday.
The Carlos Queiroz’s men earlier this month thrashed Afghanistan 8-1 at home before blanking India 3-0 in Bhubaneswar to keep perfect record in the second round of Preliminary Joint Qualification.
Meanwhile, reigning world champions Argentina retained their number position in the latest FIFA rankings.
France are second while England are third with Belgium and Brazil completing the top five.
Netherlands jumped to sixth place followed by Portugal and Spain. Italy and Croatia respectively rounded up the top 10 in the world standings.
Abdullah Al-Thani qualifies to second round of Qatar Asian Junior Tennis Tournament
Doha: Qatar’s Abdullah Al-Thani qualified to the second round of Qatar Asian Junior Tennis Tournament being held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex until December 02.
In the first round of boys’ singles event, Abdullah Al Thani defeated Tunisia’s Elias Lejmi 6-0 6-1 to reach the second round.
In girls event, Dana Khalifa qualified to the second round after beating Warda Kaci-Abdallah of Great Britain 6-0 6-0.
FIP Star Qatar 2023 to begin on Wednesday
Doha: The competitions of FIP Star Qatar 2023 will begin at the Khalifa Tenns and Squash Complex on Wednesday.
To conclude on December 03, the event will bring together 32 teams.
The event will feature the participation of Qatar’s Mohamed Al Khenji, Jabor Al Motawa, Abdulaziz Saadoun Al Kuwari, Mohamed Saadoun Al Kuwari and Khalid Saadoun Al Kuwari in addition to the wild card entrants Rayyan Abdullah, Nasser Al Yafei, Mohamed Al Mohannadi and Abdulaziz Zainal.
The qualifiers of the tournament were held on Monday and Tuesday where 4 teams have booked their spots in the main draw.
Doha set to finish 2023 WTT series Season
DOHA - The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has confirmed State of Qatar as a host nation of the WTT Finals Men 2023 will be held in Doha from 3-5 January 2024, an event that will bring together world champions and top seeded names.
Doha was the first city to host a World Table Tennis event in 2021 and is proud to continue its track record of delivering world-class WTT events.
WTT Finals Men Doha 2023 promises an action-packed spectacle of skill, precision, and sheer athleticism. Fans around the world can look forward to witnessing intense rallies, breath-taking talent, and unparalleled displays of sportsmanship as the world's best table tennis players compete for the winner’s prize of USD40,000.
The two best male players in the world, Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin will be joined by countrymen Ma Long, Liang Jingkun and Lin Gaoyuan, Brazil’s Hugo Calderano and France’s Felix Lebrun as the first players to secure their berth in the men’s singles competition.
Fan/Wang will also line-up in doubles alongside the World No. 1 men’s doubles pair of Jang Woojin and Lim Jonghoon as well as Yukiya Uda and Shunsuke Togami.
With nine singles and five doubles berths remaining, all eyes will be on WTT Champions Frankfurt and WTT Contender Taiyuan in the coming weeks, as players fight to earn crucial world rankings points and secure their place on the plane to Doha.
While the conclusion of WTT Finals Men Doha marks the end of the WTT Series 2023 season, fans will not have to wait long for more World Table Tennis action with Doha also set to play host to the 2024 season-opening events with WTT Star Contender Doha 2024 and WTT Contender Doha 2024 to take place from 8-13 and 14-20 January respectively.

Team Qatar ranks 11th in Beach Volleyball World Ranking
LAUSANNE - Qatar's beach volleyball team of duo Cherif Younes and Ahmed Tijan ranked 11th in the recently announced FIVB Men's Beach Volleyball World Ranking.
The team collected 5980 points from their participation in 10 international championships and tours during the last period, while Mol & Sorum of Norway lead the ranking with 8860 points.
Most notably, team Qatar duo were knocked out from last eight round in Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Joao Pessoa Elite16 by Dutch duo, Boermans & De Groot after suffering 15-21, 21-21 and 15-13 defeat.
The Qatari team, the winner of the bronze medal in the men's beach volleyball in Tokyo Olympics 2020, had many distinguished results in recent years, led by duo Cherif Younes and Ahmed Tijan who presented dazzling levels and placed the national team among the first teams in the world rankings.
