Sheikh Joaan attends Qatar Olympic Football team match against Palestine
The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani attended Qatar Olympic Football team match against Palestine held on Friday at Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
The match was also attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to China H.E. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Dehaimi, the QOC Secretary General H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain and Members of Qatar delegation at Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
Qatar held Palestine to a goalless draw
Hangzhou: Qatar U-23 football squad were held to a goalless draw by Palestine at the Xiaoshan Sports Centre Stadium at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games yesterday.
Qatar, who were outclassed by Japan 1-3 in their opening match, failed to breach the defence of Palestine. After yesterday’s draw, Qatar are third place in three-team Group D.
The top two teams from the six groups qualify for the round of 16, along with four best third-placed teams. Qatari hopes of qualifying for the next round depends on the result between Palestine and Japan.
If Japan, who have already sealed their place in the last 16, beat Palestine by more than two goals then Qatar will qualify as the second best team. A draw or loss by one goal will be sufficient for Palestine to progress. Yesterday, Qatar was the better side for most of the match and created many opportunities but did not succeed in translating any of them into goals.
Qatar Beach Volleyball Team (2) cruise into last 16
HANGZHOU - Qatar’s beach volleyball pair Mahmoud Essam and Abdullah Nassim eased past Macau’s Cheong Hou Wang and Wong Wai Hei to enter the last 16 at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
The duo Mahmoud Essam and Abdullah Naseem, defeated South Korea 2-0 on Tuesday, after losing to Iran 0-2 on Wednesday.
Qatar competes with two teams (1) and (2) in the Beach Volleyball team at the Asian Games.
QOC, Msheireb Properties renew Partnership Agreement
DOHA - The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Qatar’s leading sustainable properties developer Msheireb Properties have renewed their ongoing partnership agreement on Thursday to boost the mutual cooperation between them in the fields of sports and tourism.
Director of the QOC Support Services Sector , Mr Hamad Lahdan Al- Mohannadi signed this Agreement on behalf of the QOC as Mr Faisal Ibraheem Al-Malki, Chief Officer of Operations, Msheireb Properties inked on behalf of the company. The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from both organisations.
This agreement states that both organizations will join effort to arrange the visits of team Qatar stars and guests to Msheireb Downtown Doha and to help organising the QOC’s sport events at Msheireb with a reasonable media coverage.
This agreement aims to enhance cooperation in the fields of scientific research , strategic studies, exchange of professional experience and building up a better culture about environment sustainability by organising workshops an seminars.
In a post-signing statement, the Director of the QOC Support Services Sector , Mr Hamad Lahdan Al- Mohannadi said, we are truly happy to renew this agreement, with purpose of promoting the sport culture in our community by organising sports activities and events that suit all age groups at most the significant tourist sites like Msheireb Downtown Doha.
For his part , Engineer, Faisal Ibraheem Al-Malki, Chief Officer of Operations, Msheireb Properties said this agreement shows our spirit of partnership and devotion to promote sports, culture and social engagement together at Msheireb Downtown”.
“ We will spare no effort to turn Msheireb Downtown into a tourist destination that hosts the sports and cultural events. This cooperation will help us building up our status as a leading cultural and tourist site in Qatar and will significantly develop our city to be the best place to visit and to live in” added Engineer Faisal Al-Malki.
Msheireb Downtown Doha is a distinctive urban landmark in the heart of Doha. It will offer spacious space for hosting Qatar Olympic Committee’s events. This partnership is a good opportunity to enhance tourist and social aspects in the city and will add exciting ambience along with cultural and art events”.
Qatar’s flag raised at Asian Games village in Hangzhou
HANGZHOU - Qatar’s flag was raised at the Games Village of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Thursday in the presence of His Excellency Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, Second Vice-President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and His Excellency Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain, Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, and Rashid Adiba, Head of the Administrative Delegation of Qatar, and a number of officials and representatives of QOC and sports federations at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2022.
The national anthem of the State of Qatar was played during the flag-raising ceremony. Rashid Adiba, head of the administrative delegation, exchanged shields with a representative of the organizing committee. The event included festive performances and carnival activities which were attended by officials of the Qatar Olympic Committee and a number of Qatari athletes participating at the Games.
Following the flag-raising ceremony, the Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee visited the athletes’ village and held a session with a number of Qatari athletes, urging them to make every effort to present an honourable image of Qatari sports in this major Asian forum and wishing them success. The Games officially begin on Saturday (September 23).
Rashid Adiba, head of the Qatar’s administrative delegation confirmed that the Al Adam champions are ready to compete in the competitions amid aspirations to provide a distinguished level.
The head of the delegation during the event of raising the Qatari flag at the Games Village, said: “The Asian Games are considered as the second largest gathering of athletes in the world and this edition in China is considered one of the largest gatherings of the Asian Games. We are confident in our athletes putting up a good show.
He added: “The Olympic Committee has been keen during the recent period to work on its strategy in cooperation with the national federations to participate in the Games. Qatar is participating with more than 183 male and female athletes competing across 27 disciplines. We hope that our athletes will give their best.”
Regarding the organizational aspects of Asiad 2022, he said: “We praise China for their efforts to organize the Games, which were postponed last year. This is certainly additional work for the organizers and we have witnessed great cooperation since our arrival in the city of Hangzhou, which hosts 80 % of the competitions. We found that all procedures were facilitated for all participating delegations in addition to the readiness of the facilities as well as the sports village in which we reside, which is considered at the highest level and represents a legacy of this Asian tournament.”
Meanwhile, Qatar’s shooting team arrived at the Games on Thursday. Shooting events begin on Sunday and continue till October 1. Qatar’s shooting athletes are one of the most prominent teams expected to win medals at the Hangzhou Games.
In sailing, Qatar’s Faris Al Bakri, achieved tenth place in the first race and 12th place in the second race, while Ahmed Al Mulla achieved ninth place in the first race and tenth place in the second race. .
It is worth noting that the results of sailing are calculated on the last day of the races and depend mainly on the wind and sea currents, and the duo of the Qatar sailing team is looking forward to giving their best in Friday’s races to obtain the best position.
Qatar’s athletes are participating in 27 disciplines including archery, athletics, basketball, boxing, chess, cycling, esports, equestrian, football, fencing, gymnastics, golf, handball, jiu-jitsu karate, sailing, squash, swimming, tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, table tennis, volleyball, 3×3 basketball, beach volleyball and weightlifting.
Team Qatar volleyball stars book place at knockout stage
HANGZHOU - Qatar volleyball squad produced a solid performance on Thursday to get better of Hong Kong at the 2022 Asian games , which run from 23rd September to 8th of October in Chinese’s city of Hangzhou.
Qatar beat Hong Kong 3-1 (21–25, 13–25, 25–22, 21–25) to storm into the knockout stage of the men’s volleyball event.
Qatar’s spikers, who had defeated Thailand in their other Pool E match on Wednesday, will face Bahrain in their Round of 16 clash on Friday.
