Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari re-elected as OCA Vice President for West Asia
Bangkok - The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Second Vice President, His Excellency Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, has been re-elected as the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Vice President for West Asia during the 42nd OCA General Assembly in Bangkok, Thailand.
HE Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari will now serve the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Asia for a further four-year term.
The meeting has seen Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad Al-Sabah elected as the OCA President, Mr. Timothy Fok as the OCA Vice President for East Asia, Mr. Dato Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat, as the OCA Vice President for South East Asia, Mr Timur Kulibayev as the OCA Vice President for Central Asia and Lt. Genl. Syed Arif Hasan as the OCA Vice President for South Asia.
Following his re-election, HE Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari stated:
“I am deeply humbled to have been re-elected as the OCA Vice President for West Asia. It is truly an honour to have the opportunity to continue serving the OCA President, the OCA and the Asian NOCs for another four years in this esteemed position.
I would like to personally thank H.E. Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, for his trust and backing during my campaign. The QOC has always played an active role within the OCA and is fully invested in developing its mission to serve the Asian Olympic Family to the highest standards.

Team Qatar defeat Jordan in handball event at Arab Games
Algeria – Qatar handball team have recorded a 36-21 victory over Jordan on their second match at the Arab Games 2023 held in Algeria on Saturday.
With Saturday’s victory , handball team secured the first three points to keep their qualification hopes to the second stage alive after being defeated 27-28 by hosts Algeria in the opening game.
Most notably, six teams are competing in handball event, including hosts Algeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Libya and Iraq.
2023 Arab Games competitions are running from 5th to 15th of July in Algeria’s capital city of Algiers.
Qatar Beat Chile in Gstaad Round
Bern/Switzerland: Qatari beach volleyball duo Cherif Younousse/Ahmed Tijan, defeated the Chilean duo in the Gstaad round of the World Beach Volleyball Tour 2023, held between July 5-9 in Switzerland, with the participation of 79 five-star teams.
The Qatari duo beat Chile's Marco Grimalt and Esteban Grimalt 21-15 / 21-13 in the first match of Group B.
The Qatari team, bronze medal winners at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, are on a quest of obtaining points that enhance their qualification for the Olympic Games (Paris 2024).
The Qatari Beach Volleyball team occupies fifth place in the International Federation of Volleyball ranking.
Qatar to take on hosts Algeria in handball at Arab Games
Algeria – Qatar handball team will shake hands with hosts Algeria in their opening match at the Arab Games 2023 in Oran city on Friday.
Most notably, six teams are competing in handball event, including hosts Algeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Libya and Iraq.
At another scene, Qatar men’s volleyball team will face Algeria late in Friday evening , while Qatar women’s volleyball team will play UAE counterparts on the same day.

Team Qatar athletes keep winning streak on Arab Games Second Day
Algeria - Team Qatar athletes produced impressive performance to claim five medals on the second day of the 15th edition of Arab Games-Algeria 2023 , which is running from 5th to 15th of July in Algeria’s capital city of Algiers.
Qatar’s Saif Abdulsalam jumped up a 5,51m height to win the gold medal in the men’s pole vault while Muaz Ibrahim secured a gold medal in the men’s discus throw event after throwing a 62,48 distance.
On the same track of victory, Ashraf Hossain claimed the gold medal in the men’s 400m, teammate Omar Daoud clinched the bronze medal of 110m hurdles in a time of 14.20 secs and Paralympian Abdulrahman Abdulqader won the men’s shot put bronze medal.
Al-Mana attends opening ceremony of Arab Games
Algeria: On behalf of the QOC President H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, the QOC First Vice President H.E. Mohamed bin Yousef Al-Mana attended the opening ceremony of the 15th Arab Games-Algeria 2023.
This year’s edition of the Games is held in Algiers, Oran, Tipaza and Constantine from July 05-15 with participation of 3500 athletes from 22 nations.
The Prime Minister of Algeria Aymen Benabderrahmane announced the games open with attendance of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees President Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal and the Algerian Olympic Committee President Abderrahmane Hammad.
Team Qatar is represented by 115 athletes (men and women) from 12 local federations including handball, volleyball, basketball, swimming, Triathlon (cycling), athletics, gymnastics, chess, fencing, sailing, boxing, Qatar Paralympic Committee (goal ball and para-athletics), Karate, judo and badminton.
