Chen clinches gold for Qatar in Arab Games
Algeria: Team Qatar’s Grandmaster Zhu Chen excelled in the blitz chess event to clinch a gold medal at the 15th Arab Games-Algeria 2023 in Algiers.
Yesterday, Mohamed Abdulwahab and Ahmed Khalil also claimed bronze medal in men's doubles table tennis event.
After two more medals, Team Qatar’s medals tally in Algiers has now been increased to 19 including seven gold, two silver and 10 bronze medals.
Today, Qatar will be eyeing a gold medal in men’s handball final when they will meet Saudi Arabia in the final in Oran. Al Annabi defeated Iraq 24-23 in the semi-final.
Qatar fencers win gold medal in teams event at Arab Games
Algeria – Qatar fencing team members, Ali Al-Athba, Abdullah Khalifa and Khalid Alyafi produced impressive performance on Tuesday to win the gold medal of the Men’s foil team event at the Arab Games, which is running from 5th to 15th July in Algeria.
Tuesday victory has raised up team Qatar medal tally to 15 medals, including
six gold, two silver and seven bronze medals.
On the same track of victory on Tuesday, Qatar handball and volleyball teams advanced to the semifinals stage , after convincing victory over Saudi Arabia and Palestine respectively.
Most notably, 115 Qatari athletes are competing in 16 sport disciplines, handball, volleyball, basketball, swimming, Triathlon (cycling only), athletics, gymnastics, chess, fencing, sailing, boxing, (goal ball and para-athletics), Karate, judo and badminton.
Team Qatar book spot in handball final at Arab Games
Algeria – Qatar handball team produced a solid performance Wednesday to secure a narrow 24-23 victory over Iraqi counterparts and advanced to the final game of the Men’s handball event at the Arab Games, which is running from 5th to 15th July in Algeria.
Team Qatar is looking to step up the highest spot of the podium when they shake hands with Saudi Arabia in the men’s handball final to be held in Oran on Friday.

Qatar athletes continue impressive run at Arab Games
Algeria – The Qatar athletes kept their winning streak on Wednesday after claiming two bronze medals in the fencing and the table tennis events at the Arab Games, which is running from 5th to 15th July in Algeria.
The Qatari fencing team of Mishaal Al Qahtani, Muhammad Al Awlan, Jaber Al Fadaq and Muhammad Al Hazaa claimed the bronze in the fencing team event while Ahmed Khalil, Mohamed Abdel Wahhab, Fahd Al Mughni, Ahmed Al Awlaki and Abdullah Abdel Wahhab claimed the table tennis team bronze for Qatar.
Right now, team Qatar medal tally has jumped to 17 medals, six gold, two silver and nine bronze medals with two days to go.
Dahlan Al Hamad wins third term as AAA President
BANGKOK , Thailand , (QNA) - The Asian Athletics Association (AAA) General Assembly announced that HE Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad has won a new term by acclamation as AAA president which ends in 2027.
His win for a third term came following two terms during which he achieved a paradigm shift in the AAA when he was elected in 2013, in half an election cycle in India.
Subsequently he was re-elected in 2015 in Wuhan, China, and won the elections in 2019 in Doha.
The 25th edition of AAA General Assembly convened in Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday with the participation of 44 associations from 45 ones forming Asia.
The assembly convened in the presence of President of the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) Lord Sebastian Coe, European Athletics President Dobromir Karamarinov, along with a host of heads of continental federations from Africa, North and South America and the Caribbean, as well as a contingent of Asian sports figures from former athletes.
The AAA General Assembly elected new 8 members for its board amid a powerful electoral competition among 16 members who were nominated to join the board for the upcoming session that ends in 2027.
HE Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad expressed his happiness for this win, adding that he appreciates the big confidence prioritized by Asia considering such confidence an absolute in the people of Qatar who work in sports at all levels.
HE Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad affirmed that the big work in Asia would achieve success for the AAA in the present and future, adding that he is determined to achieve his vision in the run-up-to a new era for Asia, applauding the efforts made by Asian associations in the past, along with their keenness to proceed with this work which achieved numerous successes for Asia both at the global and Olympic levels of its participation.
He pointed out that the intention of associations to achieve the Asia vision 2030 had a consequential impact on Asian people's successes to reap Olympic and global Medals, underscoring that Asia has a bright future considering the exerted efforts.
Al Hamad offered his vision for the upcoming period, adding that he will be keen to proceed with the work and keep up with the evolution in all AAA activities, prioritizing women's role in the upcoming period, indicating that by 2027, Asia will have an administrative presence at the level of women's engagement with 50 percent paving the way for them to upgrade the capabilities of female champions culminating in complete excellence for Asia.
For his part, President of IAAF Lord Sebastian Coe congratulated Asia for Al Hamad's winning, adding that his efforts were clear in the evolution Asia has undergone at all levels, outlining that Asia has achieved many successes as a continent that abounds with human resources and a bright future in light of the institutional work Asia carries out under the supervision and presidency of Dahlan Al Hamad. He also lauded the high value of athletics games in Asia considering it an indicative of excellence, pointing to the big enthusiasm in developing talents based on the intended vision.
Qatar’s fencer Al Qahtani wins bronze medal at Arab Games
Algeria – The Qatar’s 17-year-old fencer Mishaal Al Qahtani won bronze in the Epee weapon category in fencing at the ongoing Arab Games - Algeria 2023 in Algiers on Monday.
By winning Monday’s bronze medal, Mishaal Al Qahtani has raised up his country’s medal tally to 14 medals to include five gold, two silver and seven bronze medals.
Most notably, 115 Qatari athletes are competing in 16 sport disciplines, handball, volleyball, basketball, swimming, Triathlon (cycling only), athletics, gymnastics, chess, fencing, sailing, boxing, (goal ball and para-athletics), Karate, judo and badminton.
