Qatar Olympic Committee Ramadan Tournament kicks off
DOHA – The competitions of the 2023 Qatar Olympic Committee Ramadan Tournament, which runs from 11th to 19th of Ramadan, corresponding 2nd to 10th of April, were kicked off at the Lusail Shooting Range on Sunday.
Tournament opening day has seen competitive games in Beach Volleyball preliminary stage for QOC’s departments. In the first game Procurement department team defeated Secretariat-General Office 2-0 (21-12) and (21-15), while in the second game Public Relations outclassed Secretariat-General Office 2-1 (21-17), ( 21-18) and (20-15).
In the third game, Procurement team again produced a solid performance to get better of Public Relations 2-0 ( 22-20) and (21-7).
QOC departments Beach volleyball preliminary stage will continue on Monday, where Sport Affairs will lock horns against Finance Affairs in the first game, as the second game will see President Office team taking on Finance Affairs and President Office will face Sport Affairs in the third game.
Thursday schedule will be busy with two events, shooting event (Shotgun + Air gun) for both Men & Women and family walk for QOC employees and families, while Padel Event-Doubles (Men) will begin from Saturday.
In this year, the QOC Ramadan Tournament is seeing three sport disciplines, competitions of QOC’s Departments Beach Volleyball teams, Shooting event (Shotgun + Air gun) for both Men & Women , Padel Event-Doubles (Men), plus a family walk, is a special sport activity for the QOC employees and their families , as by the end of the event, medals will be distributed to all participating children.
This tournament is accompanied by a series of entertainment activities for all age groups that in the frame of the QOC’s social responsibility to bring public together through sports.
By organizing this annual sport event, the QOC always aims to inscribe the true values of sports , promotes Olympism and strengthens Sport For Life idea among employees during the holy month of Ramadan.
Team Qatar qualify for FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2023 quarter-finals
Doha: The Qatari national basketball team qualified for the quarter-finals of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2023 hosted by Singapore until April 2 after finishing second behind Iran in Group D.
The Qatari team set a date in the next round on Sunday with Australian counterpart, while Iran, first in Group D, will meet in the same round the team of New Zealand the second in Group B.
The FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2023 is of great importance, being qualifier for the Olympic Games (Paris 2024), where the champion will play the Olympic play-off with the continental champions to determine the participating teams in the Olympics.
Sheikh Joaan attends ANOC Executive Council Meeting
Madrid – Spain, The ANOC Senior-Vice President and the President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) , H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani attended on Friday the ANOC 87th Executive Council Meeting held in the Spanish Capital city of Madrid.
The meeting was attended by ANOC President H.E Dr. Robin Mitchell and ANOC Executive Council members . The meeting discussed a number of current issues and put solutions in place to keep progress of the Olympic movement.
Attendees reviewed the means of boosting Olympic solidarity between NOCs and how to raise up the level of awareness about importance of making sustainability applicable during the organization of the sport events.
Updates and preparations of the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games to be held from 5-12 August in Bali, Indonesia were discussed also decisions have been taken on series of topics listed in the meeting agenda.
Qatar's Beach Volleyball Team finish sixth in world rankings
Lausanne, Switzerland Qatari men's beach volleyball team consisting of the duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, has seized the sixth place in the world rankings recently issued by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
Qatar's team collected (6,620) points, as the Norwegian duo Mol and Sorum topped the rankings and first place with (9.220) points, while the runner-up place went to Dutch duo Brouwer and Meeuwsen who collected (7,040) points.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games bronze medalists has achieved many outstanding results in recent years which made the team one of the world's first teams in the world rankings.
Team Qatar to discover their opponents at AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023
Bangkok: The Continent’s next generation of stars are set to discover their opponents at the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 final draw ceremony at the Swissotel Bangkok Ratchada at 2pm (local time) on Thursday.
Following a captivating round of qualifiers, which was held from October 1 to 9 last year, the attention will soon shift to the showpiece Finals, which will be staged in Bangkok and Chonburi over 18 days from June 15 to July 2, 2023.
Adding to the intensity, the tournament will also see the top four sides seal their places for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023 in Peru in November.
Asia’s top 16 teams will be divided into four groups in the 19th edition of the AFC U17 Asian Cup™, following its rebrand from the AFC U-16 Championship, and have been seeded according to their final ranking from the last edition in Malaysia - with host Thailand occupying the A1 position.
All eyes will be on three-time winners Japan who are in Pot 1 alongside the hosts, as well as 2018 surprise package and runners-up Tajikistan, and Korea Republic who finished third in Kuala Lumpur nearly five years ago.
Australia, who were Semi-finalists in 2010, 2014 and 2018, and 2016 hosts India, take their place in Pot 2 together with 2008 champions the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as 2002 runners-up Yemen.
Occupying Pot 3 are 2014 Quarter-finalists Malaysia, Asean giants Vietnam as well as Afghanistan, who will be making only their second appearance and two-time winners Saudi Arabia.
The unranked quartet of China PR, Uzbekistan, Qatar and Laos are in the final pot as they mark a return to the tournament after missing out on the last edition.
Draw held for AFC U17 Asian Cup
Bangkok: The stage is set for a thrilling AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 following the official draw on Thursday.
The 16 teams were divided into four groups for the June 15-July 2 tournament, which will see the top four sides seal their places in the FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2023 in November.
Hosts Thailand, champions in 1998, will have Malaysia, Laos and Yemen for company.
Two-time champions Korea Republic were drawn with Islamic Republic of Iran, Afghanistan, Qatar in an exciting Group B, with Iran and Qatar having won the title once each previously.
Tajikistan, the 2018 runners-up, will face a challenging Group C with Australia, Saudi Arabia and China PR drawn - both two-time winners - with them.
Japan, the 2018 champions and three-time winners, will face India, Vietnam and Uzbekistan in Group D.
