Tamimi qualifies to second round of QTerminals Qatar Classic
Doha - Qatar's No.1 player Abdullah Al Tamimi cruised to a straight sets victory (11-8, 11-4, 11-3) against India's Ramit Tandon to book his place in the second round of the QTerminals Qatar Classic 2022 on Sunday.
His compatriot Syed Azlan Amjad was however unlucky as he fell to a 3-1: 9-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9 defeat by Mexico’s Cesar Salazar, who fought through some discomfort, and had to come from behind, to defeat the Qatari wildcard.
Meanwhile Borja Golan, who at 39 is the oldest player competing in Qatar, made the perfect start to his 11th Qatar Classic as he blew World No. 28 Mohamed ElSherbini away in straight sets 11-2, 13-11, 11-4 in just 45 minutes.
In the other matches, Yahya Elnawasany saw off Sebastien Bonmalais in five games to earn his place in the second round. Elnawasany won 3-2: 3-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8 (69m), while, Switzerland’s Dimitri Steinmann upset the odds to earn a spot in the second round after beating World No. 24 Adrian Waller 3-1: 11-7, 11-8, 2-11, 11-6.
France’s Mathieu Castagnet booked his second round ticket after a spirited performance saw him get the better of Egypts Moustafa El Sirty, despite being 25 places lower in the World Rankings. The Frenchman won 3-1: 8-11, 11-6, 13-11, 12-10.
Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng defeated Frenchman Auguste Dussourd in straight games 11-7, 11-5, 11-6 while England’s Declan James triumphed 3-1: 11-7, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8 over France's Baptiste Masotti.
Top stars battle it out at QTerminals Qatar Classic title
Doha- The QTerminals Qatar Classic returns to the PSA World Tour on Sunday as 48 players look to capture the first Platinum event title of the season at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha.
World No 4 Diego Elias returns to defend the title, which was one of three titles that the Peruvian picked up last season, the Qatar Classic being his first and only Platinum event win so far. Elias receives a bye in round one and then has a tricky encounter in round two as he faces India’s Saurav Ghosal for a spot in the third round.
World No 1 Ali Farag has won the event twice previously, but missed last year’s event which ultimately led to him losing his World No 1 spot to New Zealand’s Paul Coll. Farag opens his account against either wildcard Syed Azlan Amjad or Mexico’s Cesar Salazar in round two and will be looking to keep hold of his No 1 spot with another strong performance.
Second ranked Paul Coll has been the runner-up the last three times an event has been held in Qatar, including the 2019 World Championships, where he lost to Tarek Momen. Coll has a chance to claim back the World No 1 spot back if he wins the event and Farag does not reach the final. Coll will play the winner of an entertaining first round clash between local favourite Abdulla al-Tamimi and India’s Ramit Tandon.
Mostafa Asal ended last season in terrific form, picking up the El Gouna International title as well as successfully defending his PSA World Tour Finals title, beating both Ali Farag and Paul Coll in both events. He has not been shy in his ambitions for this season and has expressed his desire to become the No 1 and will be looking to take a big step towards that goal this week in Doha. He will play German Raphael Kandra in his opening match.
Play begins today at 12pm with 16 matches taking place on day one across three courts. There are several matches to look forward to on day one including an all-European battle between France’s Baptiste Masotti and Declan James.
The pair have met twice on the PSA World Tour so far with the tall Englishman winning both encounters 3-0 and more recently 3-1. That match will be on the glass court at 2:15pm with the winner facing eighth seed Marwan ElShorbagy in the next round.
Team Qatar eye new glory in Arab-Esports League
DOHA – The Qatar Esports Federation (QESF) is participating in the the Arab Esports League, organized by the Arab Esports Federation from 1-2 September in Saudi Arabia’s capital city Riyadh.
The event will bring together video gamers from sixteen Arab countries, including Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Algeria, Somalia, Djibouti, Bahrain, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Palestine, Morocco, United Arab Emirates and the host country Saudi Arabia.
Sheikh Jassim bin Naser Al Thani, set to compete in 7Tekken category will be representing QESF at the competition.
Top-ranked players and teams will battle for top honors across two titles for a total prize Monday of 150,000 SAR. The two days of competition will mark the closing week of the Gamers8 Festival hosted in the city.
The Arab Esports League is a greatly aids the Arab gaming sector’s exponential growth which has been witnessed to date. It aims to attract new players to the Esports League and allow existing players to build their networks allow players an opportunity to network and discuss the latest trends in the industry.

Qatar to Participate in Arab Aquatics Championship for Age Groups
DOHA - Qatar Swimming National Team will participate in the first edition of Arab Aquatics Championship for age groups due to kick off on September 07, 2022.
Seventeen Qatari swimmers will participate in the championship under the leadership of mission president Ebrahim Al Rumaihi, Administrative Director Naser Al Suqairi and coaches Omar Khadash and Shukri Al Qafsi.
The national team is now preparing for the championship with a camp held in Cairo.
Team Qatar to participate in Eisenhower Trophy
Paris-Qatar national golf team will participate in the 32nd edition of the World Amateur Team Championships (Eisenhower Trophy) which began in Paris, France today.
The event brings together more than 200 players from 74 including Qatar, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bermuda, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark (Defending Champions), Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Guam, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Islamic Republic of Iran, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Panama, People’s Republic of China, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Ukraine, UAE, USA, Uruguay, Venezuela, Wales and Zimbabwe.

Team Qatar fencers win bronze in West Asian U20 Championship Final Day
AMMAN – Team Qatar has fought tooth and nail to win a bronze medal on the final day of the West Asian U-20 Fencing Championship, which wrapped up in Jordan on Wednesday.
Fencers Jaber Al Fadaaq, Meshaal Al Qahtani, Mohamed Al Oulan and Mohamed Al Hazaa secured bronze in the Men’s epee event, taking Qatar medal tally to seven, including two gold, two silver and three bronze.
Eleven Team Qatar fencers battled hard in both Epee and Foil events, they did fantastic fencing to claim these seven medals and paved the way for greater achievements to come in future.
The championship brough together 150 fencers represented 11 countries, namely Qatar, Palestine, Oman, Kuwait, Syria, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iraq, Lebanon and hosts Jordan.
