QOC participates in executive board meeting of GCC Olympic Committees
Kuwait- The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) participated in the 95th meeting of the executive board of GCC Olympic Committees held today in Kuwait on the sidelines of the third GCC Games.
The QOC delegation was chaired by H.E QOC Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain.
During the meeting, the executive board member and director of the third GCC Games Mr. Husain Al-Musallam briefed the board members about the progress of the games.
The meeting also selected the United Arab Emirates to host the first edition of GCC Youth Games in 2023.
It also reviewed the GCC sports cooperation and came out with some important recommendations to enhance the GCC joint action in the sports and Olympic fields.
QOC employees competences training program begins
DOHA – The second edition of the QOC employees competences training program (Olympic Principles) has begun at the Doha Institute For Graduate Studies Headquarters on Sunday.
The five-day training program is organized by the Qatar Olympic Committee’s Human Resources and Administrative Affairs Department in cooperation with Doha Institute For Graduate Studies and will last from 22nd to 26th of May.
Almost, 26 trainees from the QOC’s heads of sections and units are participating in the program. By the end of this course, trainees will submit an integrated work project titled (My Global Qatari Identity) to build an advanced criteria that will reflect the Qatari identity globally.
In the course opening session, Dr. Mona Babti from training Department of Excellence Center For Training and Consulting and Dr. Ashraf Al Saqa Matar , Media Consultant and Training Expert have discussed the Olympic principles through a creative concept .
The two experts briefed the trainees about the course’s basic objectives, which includes , setting up organizational networks and building up human relations in the committee, how to manage the challenges , how to establish a formative identity of the QOC staff and how to enhance a global concept through a Qatari identity.
Dr. Mona also briefed trainees the way to achieve the international goals by understanding how others do think ? and what advanced skills needed by others to deal with the committee?.
In a post - first session statement, Mrs. Lolwa Al Kuwari – Head of Knowledge Management Unit at QOC said this training course will help me to think throughout the mentality of others. It adopts a creative , interactive and different style to describe the concept of Olympic principle.
“ I have a true chance to transfer these new creative ideas into my work environment and that why I could help everyone to serve the interest of QOC”. Added Mrs. Al Kuwari.
Sheikh Joaan crowns winners at Schools Olympic Program
DOHA – H.E Qatar Olympic Committee President, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani crowned the top winner students of the boy schools at the closing scene of the 15th edition of Schools Olympic Program held at the Aspire Dome on Saturday.
The SOP boys closing ceremony was also attended by H.E QOC First Vice President, Mohamed Yousef Al Mana, H.E QOC Second Vice President, Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al-Kuwari, H.E Chairman of Qatar School Sports Association, Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani , Aspire Zone Foundation CEO Mr. Mohammed Khalifa Al-Suwaidi and senior officials from the QOC, QSSA and Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
The 15th edition of SOP has seen students competing in multiple sport disciplines, including athletics, shooting, football and basketball , as their total number hits 469 students from a large scale of Qatari schools. This rising number of students proved that SOP has rounded the corner and confirmed that sport is playing a center stage role to keep students healthy and to discover new talents for national clubs and teams.
Most notably, the first edition of Schools Olympic Program was launched during schools year 2007-2008 under the slogan (Sport and Health), as Qatar was a first ever and a leading nation worldwide that adopted this program to promote sports culture among students and community and to encourage different age groups involve in the sport activities and adopt a better lifestyle full of activity and free from modern diseases.
Qatar volleyball team defeat Saudi Arabia at GCC Games
Kuwait: Qatar’s volleyball and basketball teams notched up fine wins in the GCC Games in Kuwait on Saturday.
The men’s volleyball team scored their second successive win, moving past Saudi Arabia in straight sets.
Qatar’s spikers easily quelled their opponents’ challenge 25-18, 25-16, 25-20. The maroons next play UAE on Monday.
In basketball, the men’s team finally ended up on the winning side following three defeats.
Qatar’s hoopsters won 72-61 against the UAE after leading 42-20 at the break. The result did not help Qatar’s cause though as they failed to make the last four. Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will battle it out in the semifinals.
On the other hand, the tennis and table tennis will get underway on Sunday.
Team Qatar athletes shine at GCC Games
Kuwait- Yousef Hassan Abouelela was the golden boy for Qatar in the pool at the third GCC Games in Kuwait on Friday, powering to victory in the men’s 200M backstroke with a superb show.
Abouelela touched down in 2:09.62, finishing well ahead of Saudi Arabia’s Ali Alessa (2:11.82) and fellow Qatari Abdalla Elghamry (2:12.02).
The Qatari champion started slowly but he wrested the lead after the first 50 metres and then maintained it all the way to emerge a comfortable winner.
It was his third medal of the competition, after silver in the 4x100 medley relay and bronze in the 100 backstroke.
Qatar won a silver and two more bronze medals in other swimming events. Abdulaziz Al Obaidly, Qatar’s star in the pool, finished second in the 200M breaststroke, timing 2:19.23 while his compatriot Omer Hassan Abouelela (2:26.66) was way back in third position. Kuwait’s Rashed Tarmoom (2:19.20) claimed the gold.
Qatar’s other bronze came in the 100M freestyle through Mohamed Mohamed, who timed 52.88 to finish behind Kuwait’s Waleed Abdulrazzaq (50.96) and UAE’s Yousuf Almatrooshi (51.12).
Qatar also won a silver and a bronze in shooting. The Qatari skeet team, featuring Hamad Al Menkhis, Abdul Aziz Al Attiaya and Mohamed Al Kuwari, claimed silver while the 25M Rapid Fire Pistol team, comprising Hamad Abu Tuaimeh, Abdulla Al Shahwani and Mohammed Al Tamimi, won bronze.
In basketball, Qatar suffered a 44-53 defeat against Saudi Arabia while their volleyball team defeated Oman 25-14, 25-21, 25-21.
With 12 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals, Qatar are in third place on the medals table, behind Kuwait (21-17-18) and Bahrain (17-16-10).
Team Qatar swimmers win 5 medals at GCC Games
Kuwait- Team Qatar Swimmer Abdulaziz Al Obaidly claimed Qatar’s only gold of the day in the third GCC Games in Kuwait on Thursday.
Al Obaidly powered to first place in the men’s 200M individual medley, clocking 2:08.33. His team-mate Omer Abouelela won the silver, timing 2:09.20. UAE’s Salem Ghalib (2:11.32) took home the bronze.
It was Al Obaidly’s second gold of the meet. He had triumphed in the 400M medley, besides winning silver medals in the 4x100 freestyle relay and 4x100 medley relay.
Qatar won two more silver and a bronze medal on the final day of the swimming competition.
The Qatari 4x200 freestyle relay team timed 8:01.41 to finish behind Kuwait (7:52.94), with Oman claiming the bronze in 8:06.28. The Qatar quartet comprised Tameem Elhamayda, Abdalla Elghamry, Mohamed Mohamed and Omar Aboulela.
Mohamed won two other medals on the day – silver in the 100M breaststroke and bronze in the 50M freestyle. The Qatari timed 1:05.48 to finish second in the breast stroke behind Rashed Al Tarmoom (1:02.81) of Kuwait. UAE’s Omar Mohammed was third in 1:09.69.
In the 50M freestyle, Mohamed splashed to the third place in 23.83 seconds. Waleed Abdulrazzaq of Kuwait struck gold in 23.26 while Yousif Bu Arish of Saudi Arabia claimed silver in 23.62.
Qatar continue to be in third place on the medals table, with 11 gold, 13 silver and nine bronze medals. Bahrain lead with 17 gold, 15 silver and eight bronze while hosts Kuwait (16-14-16) are a touch behind.
