QOC employees competences training program concludes
DOHA – The second edition of the QOC employees competences training program (Olympic Principles) was concluded at the Doha Institute For Graduate Studies headquarters on Thursday .
The five-day training program was organized by the Qatar Olympic Committee’s Human Resources and Administrative Affairs Department in cooperation with Doha Institute For Graduate Studies from 22nd to 26th of May.
This productive course brought together 26 trainees from the QOC’s heads of sections and units and mainly shed lights on an integrated work project titled (My Global Qatari Identity) to help building an advanced criteria will reflect the Qatari identity globally.
Dr. Mona Babti from training Department of Excellence Center For Training and Consulting and Dr. Ashraf Al Saqa Matar , Media Consultant and Training Expert have delivered a series of presentations about the Olympic principles with a new interactive and creative concept .
The course main objectives how to set up organizational networks for human relations inside the committee, how to manage the challenges , how to build up a formative identity of the QOC staff and how to enhance a global concept through a Qatari identity.
Al Tamimi takes victory on home soil
Doha- World No.48 Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi secured his second title of the 2021-2022 season with a win on home soil at the QSF 3, as he beat Mexico’s Leonel Cardenas in the final at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha, Qatar.
The Qatari No.1 has struggled with injuries this season, seeing his ranking drop out of the world’s top 50 at one point, but following a win at the Life Time Atlanta Open, and making it to the second round of the CIB PSA World Championships Cairo, he came back to his home nation in some good form.
Al Tamimi came into the tournament as the No.3 seed, and after receiving a bye through to the second round, he came up against England’s Charlie Lee. The Qatari found himself 2-1 down, but fought back to win in five, winning both of the last two games 11-5, to advance through to the quarter finals of the competition.
In the last eight, the World No.48 overcame Emyr Evans in four games, winning the first two games, before having to regroup after the Welshman took the third. He then got the better of Argentina’s Leandro Romiglio, who had downed three seeded players en route to the last four, in straight games.
Al Tamimi then took on Leonel Cardenas, the World No.37, in the final, and the Qatari was in complete control throughout the match. Playing in front of his home crowd, he won the first two games comfortably. Although the Mexican tried to fight back, it was Al Tamimi that took the victory, to claim his second title this season, and first in from of his adoring home crowd since 2017.

Team Qatar win table tennis silver at GCC Games
KUWAIT – Qatar’s table tennis team won the silver medal on Tuesday at the ongoing third edition of GCC Games, following a 3-0 defeat against Saudi team in Kuwait.
At a quite different scene, the Qatar’s volleyball team secured its third consecutive victory by beating hosts Kuwait (25-15, 25-21 and 27-25) and raised up tally to 6 points at the top of the standings.
In Wednesday’s fixtures, Qatar volleyball team will shake hands with Bahrain in a crucial battle to get a closer step to the volleyball event title.
On other hand, Qatar handball team will lock horns against Saudi team on Wednesday.
In the Men’s Padel event, team Qatar opened campaigned on Tuesday with a convincing 3-0 win over Bahrain.
The GCC Games which began on May 16, feature the participation of more than 1700 athletes competing in 16 sports including athletics, 3x3 basketball, basketball, cycling (road), e-sports, fencing, futsal, handball, ice hockey, judo, karate, padel, shooting, swimming, tennis, table tennis and volleyball. The state of Qatar is represented by 170 athletes.
Nawaf cruises into tennis event semi-finals at GCC Games
KUWAIT - Qatar’s Rashed Nawaf stormed into the semi-finals of men’s singles tennis event at the GCC Games in Kuwait on Monday. Nawaf sailed past local favourite Ali al-Shati 6-4, 6-4 at the Sheikh Jaber Al Abdullah International Tennis Complex.
The other Qatari players, however, bowed out of event after suffering defeats in their respective quarter-finals. Qatar’s Mousa Shannan was beaten by Kuwait’s Essa Qabazard 6-3, 6-3 while Saudi Arabia’s Ammar Alhogbani prevailed over Isa Shannan 6-0, 6-2. Mubarak Shannan was ousted by Kuwait’s Abdulhamid Mubarak in straight sets (6-1, 6-1).
Meanwhile, Qatar continued their fine performance in men’s table tennis team event, blanking Kuwait 3-0 for their third straight victory. The Qatari paddlers also defeated Bahrain and UAE with identical scorelines on Sunday.
Qatar are third on the GCC Games table with an overall 39 medals including 12 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals. Kuwait are currently on top with 22 gold, 19 silver and 19 bronze medals followed by Bahrain, who have secured a total of 46 medals including 17 gold, 17 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Qatar table tennis team begin their campaign with two victories
Kuwait- The Qatari men's national table tennis began their campaign at the third GCC Games with two victories on Sunday.
In their first match, Team Qatar defeated UAE 3-0 then they overpowered Bahrain 3-0 in their second match.
On the other hand, Qatar's Mubarak Shanan qualified to the quarterfinals of men's tennis event after his 6-0 6-1 victory over Omar Ahmadi of UAE.
Kuwait leads the standings of the third GCC Games with 59 medals including 22 gold medals, 19 silver medals and 18 bronze medals ahead of Bahrain in the second place with 45 medals including 17 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 12 bronze medals while Qatar occupies the third place with 39 medals including 12 gold medals, 15 silver medals and 9 bronze medals.
Sheikh Joaan attends opening ceremony of GCC Games
Kuwait - H.E President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani attended the opening ceremony of the third GCC Games held at the Arena Kuwait on Sunday.
The opening ceremony was attended by H.H. Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah and presidents of the GCC Olympic Committees.
In attendance also were H.E QOC First Vice President Mohamed bin Yousef Al Mana, H.E QOC Second Vice President Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al-Kuwari and H.E QOC Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain.
The ceremony began with the Kuwaiti national anthem then President of the Kuwait Olympic Committee Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah delivered his speech. The opening ceremony also focused lights on women's role in Kuwait's development.
