Team Qatar ready for Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship
DOHA, September 25, 2019 – Qatar's Golf team will participate in the prestigious Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship which will take place from 26-29 September, 2019 at Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai ,China.Qatar's golf team delegation which is chaired by Mohammed Faisal Al Nuaimi, Executive Director of Qatar Golf Association has left Doha on Tuesday for Shanghai, China.The prestigious event will bring together 120 golfers , representing 41 Asian nations who will fight for the top honours.
Team Qatar look for glory in AASF Asian Age Group Championships
BENGALURU, India, September 24 , 2019 – The Qatari swimming team are set to begin their campaign in the 10th AASF Asian Age Groups Championships 2019 will kick off in Indian's city of Bengaluru on Tuesday.Nine swimmers will represent Qatar in the swimming and diving event of the prestigious event, the team comprises of Waleed Daloul, Abdulaziz Al Obaidely, Omar Asharaf, Yousef Asharaf, Kareem Salah, Tamim Al Hamaidah, Abdullah Al Ghamri, Ibraheem Hilal and Saif Al Borshaid.It is worth mentioning that, Qatar's young swimming squad had claimed three medals in the last edition of the championships took place in Uzbekistan's capital of Tashkent in 2017.In 2019's edition , over 40 countries and more than 1200 swimmers are due to compete for top honours in four different aquatic disciplines, including swimming, diving, water polo and the visually-mesmerizing artistic swimming.
Team Qatar win goalball gold in West Asian Para Games
Amman, September 22, 2019-The Qatari goalball team claimed the gold medal of the 2019 West Asian Para Games after beating Iraq 9-7 in the final match held on Saturday. The 2019 edition of the games which was concluded in Amman, Jordan yesterday, brought together 7000 athletes from 12 nations including; Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iraq, Oman, Palestine, Yemen, UAE, Bahrain and hosts Jordan. Qatar's Squad: Mohammed Hamam, Hassam Al Kohaji, Abbad Al Shemali, Abdullah Bo Falasa, Abdulhadi Al Mari and Mohammed Al Kahalout. Qatar's Chef de Mission Khalid Al Sheabi congratulated the players on their achievement and stressed that Qatar's Sarah Masoud also claimed the gold medal of Women's Shot Putting event.
Stage set for IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019
DOHA, September 22, 2019 – IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 will act as a golden chance for Qatari sport officials to get further organizational experience and administrative background when this world athletics event gets underway on a Qatari soil at Khalifa International stadium.The organizing committee has repeatedly confirmed on more than occasion that an elite Qatari youth group, equipped with experience and knowledge will manage the event to be sport leaders in the future. A number of sport officials from Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy are engaged in the Athletics Mondial, that in preparation for more world sport event scheduled in Doha , including FIFA World Cup. Qatar 2022.Entry lists for the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 confirm that more than 1900 athletes from 209 teams will be in action in the Qatari capital. The 1928 entries comprise 1039 men and 889 women. Of the 44 individual winners from two years ago, 38 will defend their titles in Doha. All 30 of the newly minted Diamond League champions will also be in action.Abdullah Al-Mulla, Media and Broadcasting director at the LOC, said that the 2019 edition of the event will be covered by 700 media representatives, with some of the biggest names in world media, including DPA, Reuters, AFP, Xinhua and BBC, expected to come to Doha.
Barshim to lead Qatar's Challenge at Doha World Athletics Championships
DOHA, September 23, 2019- Qatar's 18-athlete squad for the upcoming IAAF World Athletics Championships boasts of Asian record holders in world high jump champion Mutaz Essa Barshim, 400m hurdler Abderrahman Samba, 100m & 200m sprinter Femi Ogunode, and the 4x400m Relay team. Qatar team also includes two women athletes.The meet begins at the majestic Khalifa International Stadium, Aspire Zone, on September 27th. The ten-day event will last till October 6 culminating with a midnight marathon at the spectacular Corniche.Barshim, the 2017 London worlds champion and the World Athlete of the Year, is back in action having suffered an unfortunate ankle injury last year. His best has been 2.27m twice this season while in Zurich he could clear only 2.20m in his last event before bowing out.So the second highest jumper in the history after Cuban legend Javier Sotomayor at 2.43m, Barshim's fitness and how he handles the situation, would be under focus during the Doha Worlds taking place in the Middle East region for the first time.Samba created a big stir last season and went on to become the second fastest one-lap hurdler along with American Rai Benjamin, sweeping everything in his sight. This season, he ran in 400m, 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay as a build up for the worlds, including his wins in the Asian meet and Shanghai Diamond League.But he has not raced against world champion Norwegian Karsten Warholm and American Banjamin, who are expected to be his main rivals in the Doha 2019. In the meantime, Warholm showcased his preparations and posted the second fastest time after the world record holder Kevin Young in the Zurich Diamond League in August.Ogunode, the current Asian record co-owner in 100m with Chinese Su Bigntian and 200m, will be using his experience to help the national 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. The latter quarter is the reigning Asian record holder after winning the gold medal in the Asian Games in Jakarta last year.In Jakarta, the 4x400m foursome consisted of world 400m bronze medallist Abdalelah Haroun, who is also back after recovering from injury, Samba, Mohamed Nasir Abbas and Mohamed Mohamed.For the Doha worlds, Qatar retained only three of the team that won the Asian title here in April this year – Samba, Bassem Hemeida and Ashraf Hussen Osman. With arrival of Haroun and Ogonode, the Qatar team definitely looks much stronger than before.Young sprinter Owaab Barrow will run in 100m, besides assisting the 4x100m relay tam. Other members of the relay team are Yaqoob al Hasani, Mahamat Zakaria Khalid, Abdelaziz Mohamed, Femi Ogunode and 2018 Asian Games silver medallist Tosin Ogunode.Abdelaziz Mohamed will also line up in the men's 200m, while Abubaker Haydar Abdalla has been listed for 800m. Team Qatar book place in AFC U-16 Championship Finals
DOHA, September 23, 2019 - Qatar beat Bhutan 11-0 to finish tied with Yemen on seven points but a goal difference of one placed Qatar above their West Asian rivals who beat Bangladesh 3-0 earlier on Sunday.Qatar flexed their muscles in the second half to seal an emphatic win over Bhutan and booked their place in the finals of 2020 AFC U-16 Championship.The West Asians' opened their scoring in the eighth minute through Rashid Abdulaziz Al Abdulla, before Mubark Shanan Hamza and Mohamed Salem Al Quraishi converted spot-kicks in the 36th and 44th minutes respectively.Qatar continued their chase for goals in the second half with Abdulaziz Fahad Al Naimi and captain Mhadi Salem Al Mejaba finding the back of the net in the 49th and 53rd minutes respectively.Al Quraishi scored his second four minutes later, while Al Abdulla completed his hat-trick with back-to-back goals in the 65th and 68th minutes.Defender Hassan Mohamed Al Ghareeb got into the goalscoring action five minutes later, before Mobark scored from the penalty spot in the 88th minute.But it was substitute Abdulrahman Al Dosari's goal three minutes into added time that meant the most, as 1990 champions Qatar sealed their 11th appearance in the Finals.
