Doha: The FIP World Cup Qatar 2026 reaches its climax today as defending champions Argentina and Spain renew their historic rivalry in both the men’s and women’s finals at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
After six days of competition featuring 32 national teams across the two categories, the tournament concludes with two highly anticipated encounters between the sport’s traditional powerhouses, with Argentina seeking to retain the men’s crown and Spain aiming to extend their dominance in the women’s competition.
In the men’s final, defending champions Argentina will look to secure another world title against Spain, whom they defeated 2-1 in the final of the 2024 edition, also held in Doha.
Argentina have enjoyed an impressive campaign, topping Group A with victories over Australia, the Netherlands and France before defeating Germany 3-0 in the quarter-finals.
The South Americans then overcame Italy in Friday’s semi-finals to secure their place in the championship decider.
Spain have been equally impressive, finishing unbeaten at the top of Group B following victories over Sweden, Paraguay and the United Arab Emirates.
The Spaniards continued their winning run with a 2-0 quarter-final victory over Brazil before defeating Portugal in the semi-finals to set up another final against their South American rivals.
The women’s final will also feature a familiar contest, with defending champions Spain seeking a seventh consecutive world title against Argentina.
Spain have dominated the women’s competition in recent editions and will be determined to maintain their winning streak against an Argentine side aiming to end that run.
The Spanish team topped Group A with three victories before defeating Sweden 3-0 in the quarter-finals.
In Friday’s semi-finals, Paula Josemaria and Gemma Triay opened the contest against France with a 6-3, 6-1 victory, before Claudia Fernandez and Bea Gonzalez secured Spain’s place in the final with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win.
Argentina also progressed through the tournament unbeaten, topping Group B before recording a 3-0 quarter-final victory over Portugal.
In the semi-finals, Aranzazu Osoro and Martina Fassio defeated Italy’s Caterina Baldi and Giulia Sussarello 6-2, 6-2, while Delfi Brea and Claudia Jensen sealed qualification with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Giulia Dal Pozzo and Giorgia Marchetti.
Today’s women’s final marks the seventh consecutive World Cup title showdown between Spain and Argentina, highlighting the longstanding rivalry between the two nations.
With both finals featuring the same two countries, the concluding day promises another significant chapter in the history of the FIP World Cup.
The finals will bring the curtain down on the 2026 edition in Doha, which has once again welcomed leading international padel players and national teams to Qatar for one of the sport’s most prestigious competitions.
