Founded in 1977, the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) is the official body responsible for overseeing the growth and development of table tennis across the country. Operating under the Qatar Olympic Committee and in alignment with the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and Asian Table Tennis Union, the association focuses on expanding grassroots participation, nurturing national talent, and ensuring strong Qatari representation at regional and global competitions.
The QTTA has produced several notable players, including Abdullah Al-Bouainain and Mohammed Abdulwahab, who have represented Qatar at major Asian and international championships. A promising generation of youth athletes is also being groomed through specialized development programs and national team training.
As a host, Qatar has earned a strong reputation in the global table tennis community. The federation previously organized high-profile events such as the 2004 ITTF World Club Championships and the 2013 Asian Youth Championships, in addition to numerous Gulf, Arab, and Pan-Arab tournaments. Operating under the Qatar Olympic Committee, the federation oversees national teams, organizes local competitions, and manages technical training in collaboration with the international and Asian federations.
The federation focuses on expanding participation, especially among youth, through dedicated training centers and its sailing academy, which offers structured programs in Optimist sailing and both single and double scull rowing. Since its inception, the federation has worked diligently to create a comprehensive ecosystem that nurtures talent, expands grassroots participation, trains technical staff, and prepares national teams for regional and international competitions.
The federation oversees all three Olympic fencing disciplines — Sabre, Épée, and Foil — and runs specialized training programs targeting youth and junior athletes through clubs, academies, and school partnerships. In recent years, a new generation of Qatari fencers has emerged, marking strong performances in Gulf, Arab, and Asian championships, especially in the youth and cadet categories.

In 2027, Qatar will make history by hosting the FIBA Basketball World Cup — the first edition to be held in the Middle East.

It is responsible for overseeing the development of athletics across all disciplines and age groups, in accordance with World Athletics regulations. The federation plays a central role in talent identification, athlete development, national competition management, and representing Qatar at regional and global events.
Qatar’s rise on the international athletics stage is deeply tied to the success of its elite athletes, particularly Mutaz Barshim, one of the greatest high jumpers of all time. Barshim has built a legendary Olympic record, earning bronze in London 2012, silver in Rio 2016, gold in Tokyo 2020, and most recently, bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He is also a three-time World Champion (2017, 2019, 2023), making him a global icon in the sport. Another prominent Qatari athlete is Abderrahman Samba, who won bronze in the 400m hurdles at the 2019 World Championships in Doha and holds the second-fastest time ever recorded in the event.
