Team Qatar Secures Three Medals at Arab U20 Athletics Championships in Tunis

Tunis, Tunisia – Team Qatar concluded its campaign at the Arab U20 Athletics Championships with an impressive haul of three medals one gold and two bronze at the end of a highly competitive event held in the Tunisian capital.The championship brought together 320 male and female athletes representing 15 nations, competing over five days from April 26 to 30 for podium finishes and qualification marks for the World Athletics U20 Championships.Qatar’s gold medal came through the men’s 4x400m relay team, which delivered a commanding performance to secure top honours. Meanwhile, Mubarak Saeed claimed bronze in the 1500m, while Faisal Mohammed added another bronze in the 400m hurdles, setting a new personal best of 51.55 seconds in the process.Saeed further underlined his status as one of the region’s rising middle-distance talents, having already won gold in the 3000m at the start of the championships before adding his second medal in the 1500m final.With these results, Team Qatar raised its total tally to 12 medals (five gold, two silver, and five bronze), marking one of the prominent achievements for Qatari athletics at the youth level during the 2026 season.Qatar’s participation in the 21st edition of the championships featured a promising group of young athletes across multiple disciplines, reflecting the depth and future potential of the nation’s athletics program. 

OCA President Declares Sanya 2026 Asian Beach Games Closed

Sanya, China, April 30 (QNA) - HE President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani has declared the 6th Asian Beach Games, "Sanya 2026", officially closed during a ceremony held at Yasha Park.In his closing remarks, he described the Sanya edition as "exceptional", saying Asia had created a historic moment through unity. "Together, as one Asia, we made history. Through our love of sport and our shared dream, we have shown the very best of Asia," he said.He added that the host city had risen to the occasion, strengthening its presence on the global stage, and praised the efforts of the organizing committee, the Chinese Olympic Committee, and the government of China."I have no doubt this will be the first of many major sporting events to be hosted by Sanya," he said. "As this edition comes to a close, the spirit of Sanya will remain with us, reminding us that when Asia unites, anything is possible."The ceremony also included the handover of the OCA flag. The mayor of Sanya passed it to the president of the Chinese Olympic Committee, who then handed it to HE Sheikh Joaan, before it was presented to Abraham Tolentino, marking the transition to Cebu, the Philippines, which will host the next edition in March 2028.

Sanya, China – Qatar’s beach volleyball team, represented by the outstanding duo of Sherif Younes and Ahmed Tijan, secured a place in the final of the Asian Beach Games – Sanya 2026 after a commanding straight-sets victory over Thailand in the semifinals Tuesday.The Qatari pair delivered a dominant performance to defeat their Thai counterparts (2-0), with set scores of 21-12 and 21-14, showcasing remarkable technical excellence, strong coordination, and impressive determination throughout the match.Qatar will now face Iran in Wednesday’s highly anticipated final, after the Iranian team also booked their place in the title match by overcoming Oman in the other semifinal. The final is expected to be a thrilling contest between two of Asia’s strongest teams in this category.The Qatari team had advanced to the knockout stages after topping Group B with a perfect record, securing three consecutive victories over the Maldives, Uzbekistan, and Iran.
