Sanya, China – Qatar’s beach volleyball team, represented by the outstanding duo of Sherif Younes and Ahmed Tijan, secured a place in the final of the Asian Beach Games – Sanya 2026 after a commanding straight-sets victory over Thailand in the semifinals Tuesday.The Qatari pair delivered a dominant performance to defeat their Thai counterparts (2-0), with set scores of 21-12 and 21-14, showcasing remarkable technical excellence, strong coordination, and impressive determination throughout the match.Qatar will now face Iran in Wednesday’s highly anticipated final, after the Iranian team also booked their place in the title match by overcoming Oman in the other semifinal. The final is expected to be a thrilling contest between two of Asia’s strongest teams in this category.The Qatari team had advanced to the knockout stages after topping Group B with a perfect record, securing three consecutive victories over the Maldives, Uzbekistan, and Iran. They then progressed past Qatar’s second team in an all-Qatar Round of 16 clash before continuing their impressive run with a quarterfinal victory over China, ultimately earning their well-deserved place in the championship match.

They edged China 18–16 in a fast-paced semifinal before delivering a dominant performance in the final to seal gold.Thailand had booked their place in the final with a narrow 20–18 win over the Philippines, while China claimed bronze after defeating the Philippines 21–13 in the third-place match.Qatar showcased exceptional composure throughout the knockout stage, maintaining a high tempo and clinical efficiency despite the challenge of competing in multiple matches in a single day.The team’s journey to gold followed a flawless group-stage campaign, topping Group C with three consecutive wins over Bahrain, Kazakhstan, and India, before overcoming Iran in the quarterfinals.In the women’s competition, Qatar exited in the second round following a defeat to Singapore.After the match, Mohammed Saad Al-Mughaisib, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, dedicated the victory to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, in recognition of their unwavering support for Qatari sport.He emphasized that the team fully deserved the title, noting that this achievement marks Qatar’s third consecutive gold medal in 3x3 basketball at the Asian Beach Games, following triumphs in 2014 and 2016.

Qatar Wins Hammer Gold at Arab U20 Athletics Championships

Tunis, (QNA) - Qatar's athlete Abdulrahman Ibrahim secured the gold medal in the hammer throw on the fourth day of the Arab U20 Athletics Championships, currently taking place in the Tunisian capital with the participation of 320 athletes representing 15 countries.Ibrahim topped the competition with a winning throw of 72.79m, marking his best performance of the season.With this victory, Qatar's athletics team increased its tally to nine medals, four gold, two silver, and three bronze, with further medal prospects as Faisal Mohammed and Abu Bakr Idris qualified for the 400m hurdles final.Qatar is represented in the 21st edition of the championships by a strong group of young athletes competing across multiple disciplines, including Yusuf Abdulaziz and Mohammed Kala (400m), Mubarak Saeed (1500m and 3000m), Idris Abu Bakr (110m hurdles), Faisal Mohammed and Abu Bakr Idris (400m hurdles), Samer Hassan, Abdul-Sadiq Mohammed, and Mohammed Musa (4x400m relay), Ibrahim Zakaria and Abdullah Al-Abdullah (pole vault), Hamad Dawi and Mohammed Jimi (discus throw), and Abdulrahman Mohammed (hammer throw).
