Ammar Ismail Finishes Second in 400m at Hezekiel Sepeng Invitational

Johannesburg : Team Qatar sprinter Ammar Ismail secured second place in the 400m race yesterday at the Hezekiel Sepeng Invitational held in South Africa, which featured participation from a number of leading international track and field athletes.Ammar clocked a time of 45.16 seconds, marking his season’s best performance, as part of his preparations for the upcoming Arab Athletics Championships scheduled to take place in Tunisia at the end of April.The Qatari athlete, who won gold in the relay event at the 2025 Asian Championships, continues his preparations through a training camp in South Africa, where he is competing in several international one-day athletics meetings with the aim of improving his ranking with the international federation.The event also saw Qatar’s Mohammed Kala record a new personal best in the 400m, posting a time of 46.43 seconds.

Sheikh Joaan reviews progress of Athletes’ Village Project of Doha 2030 Asian Games

Doha: H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 21st Asian Games – Doha 2030, conducted a field visit today to review the latest developments of the Athletes’ Village Project in Lusail City.H.E. Sheikh Joaan was accompanied by H.E. Eng. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Meer, President of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and a member of the Doha 2030 Organizing Committee; H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee and member of the Organizing Committee; and Dr. Ahmad Abdulla Al-Buenain, Chief Executive Officer of the Organizing Committee.During the visit, H.E. Sheikh Joaan was briefed on the ongoing development of the project, which is being delivered in line with the highest international standards to accommodate approximately 18,000 athletes during the Games. The Athletes’ Village will feature integrated infrastructure, modern facilities, and a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet athletes’ needs.The project also reflects a strong commitment to sustainability across both design and operations, while embracing the smart city concept through the adoption of advanced technologies aimed at enhancing quality of life and ensuring efficient management of facilities and services. 

Round 10 of Longines Hathab set to begin tomorrow

Doha : The tenth round of the Qatar Equestrian Tour, Longines Hathab, for the 2025–2026 season will get underway tomorrow (Thursday). The event is organized by the Qatar Equestrian Federation and Modern Pentathlon in partnership with Al Shaqab – a member of Qatar Foundation – and will run over three days at the main arena of the Qatar Equestrian Federation, with wide participation from riders competing across various showjumping classes.The competition program will begin at 5:00 PM tomorrow with the Amateur class at a height of 100cm, followed by the Silver class at 130cm at 7:30 PM.Competitions will continue the following day (Friday) with the Future Riders class for ages 6 to 12 at a height of 70cm, followed by the Gold class for both individual and team competitions at 140cm, and then the Open class at 110cm.The championship resumes after a break due to the Doha Equestrian Tour rounds, which featured 10 rounds with strong international participation from some of the world’s top-ranked riders, achieving notable success.The round will conclude next Saturday, with the Future Riders class (ages 12 to 16) at a height of 90cm, followed by the Bronze class for individuals and teams at 120cm, before wrapping up with the Diamond class at 150cm. 

Shaheen Eidimohammad crowned Asian Champion

Bishkek:  Team Qatar wrestler Shaheen Eidimohammad secured the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Wrestling Championships in Kyrgyzstan after defeating Iran’s Mohammad Hosseini in the 82kg final, delivering a strong performance to claim the continental title.Shaheen produced a consistent campaign on his way to the podium, opening with a solid victory over a Chinese opponent before overcoming the Kazakh champion in the semifinals to advance to the final with confidence. This achievement marks a significant step in his career, having won bronze at last year’s Asian Championships, and now adding a gold medal to further establish his position among Asia’s leading wrestlers.The result reflects the continued progress of Qatari wrestling and the impact of structured technical development, while also providing added motivation for Team Qatar athletes to pursue further success and represent the nation strongly on the international stage. 

Qatar’s Shaheen Mohammed powers his way to Asian Wrestling Final 2026

Bishkek – Qatar’s wrestling star, Shaheen Mohammed, launched his campaign at the 2026 Asian Wrestling Championships in Kyrgyzstan with a standout performance that reflected his peak readiness and strong ambition to contend for the continental title.Shaheen secured a well-deserved victory in the opening round, defeating China’s Li Yu (5–3) in the 82kg category in a fiercely contested bout, before carrying his momentum into the semifinals.In a thrilling clash against Kazakhstan’s Magomadov, the Qatari champion showcased remarkable composure and control to edge a dramatic 9–8 win, booking his place in the final scheduled for tomorrow, where he will face Iran’s Mohammad Hosseini in a battle for gold.Shaheen Mohammed is widely regarded as one of the most promising rising talents in Qatar’s national team. Al Arabi edge Al Duhail to secure Qatar Handball Cup 2026

DOHA - Al Arabi secured the Qatar Cup for Handball 2025-26 season with a hard-fought 31-29 win over Al Duhail in the final at the Al Duhail Sports Hall on Monday.Trailing 13-15 at halftime, Al Arabi staged a second-half comeback to overturn the deficit and claim the two-goal win.Second Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari and President of the Qatar Handball Federation (QHF) Ahmed Mohammed Al Shaabi presented the championship trophy and medals to the players.The triumph marks Al Arabi’s third Qatar Handball Cup title, following successes in 2020-2021 and 2023-2024. The club also secured the league and Federation Cup this season, completing a historic treble. Al Arabi now aim to add a fourth domestic trophy by winning the Amir Cup.“Achieving three titles in a single season is an exceptional accomplishment that reflects the hard work of both our technical and administrative staff,” Al Shaabi said.QHF Secretary General Mohammed Jaber Al Mulla added: “Al Arabi deserved the title after a challenging season.
