Qatar Weightlifting Federation honors Fares Ibrahim for winning two silver medals at the world championships
Doha: The Qatar Weightlifting Federation honored team Qatar star Fares Ibrahim, who secured two silver medals at the World Weightlifting Championships 2024 in Mamana, Bahrain.
The celebration took place during the reception of Fares Ibrahim and the national team delegation at Hamad International Airport last night, amidst a festive atmosphere, following his latest remarkable achievement in his distinguished sporting career.
Fares, who previously won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, clinched two silver medals in the 102kg category.
Khalid Abdullah Al-Hammadi, Board Member of the Qatar Weightlifting Federation, commended Fares Ibrahim's significant accomplishment, emphasizing that it reaffirms his status as one of Qatar's most prominent athletes in recent years, given his achievements at the Olympic, global, and Asian levels.
For his part, Fares Ibrahim expressed his happiness at winning two silver medals at the World Championships, dedicating the achievement to Qatar and to everyone who has supported him throughout his sporting journey, particularly the Qatar Weightlifting Federation.

Team Qatar Claim Silver and Bronze Medals at Asian U23 Fencing Championships
Doha: Qatar’s national fencing team returned to Doha with two medals from the Asian U23 Fencing Championships in Manama, Bahrain, from October 27 to November 02, 2026 where Adham Al Deeb claimed silver in the individual foil event and Qatar secured bronze in the team competition.Khalid Aref, Abdullah Ismail, Adham Al Deeb and Abdulrahman Bourghrib represented Qatar in the team event, delivering strong performances to reach the semi-finals. They narrowly lost 45–43 to Kazakhstan, securing the bronze medal.In the individual competition, Al Deeb won silver after reaching the final, where he faced top seed Lau Kenji Tsun Yin of Hong Kong. Lau edged the closely contested bout 15–14. Qatar also had three fencers advance to the quarter-finals—Khalid Aref, Abdullah Ismail and Adham Al Deeb—while Abdulrahman Bourghrib delivered a strong performance throughout the championships.The results reflect the collaboration between the Qatar Fencing Federation and Aspire Academy in preparing athletes and developing their skills through long-term planning aimed at strengthening Qatar’s presence in continental and international competitions.
Doha 2026 Shooting World Championships Open in Style
DOHA – The Opening Ceremony of the Shooting World Championships, which serve as a qualifying event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, was held in Doha on Monday evening, ahead of the start of competition on Tuesday at the Lusail Shooting Complex. The championships have brought together approximately 1,100 male and female shooters representing 91 countries, in a major international gathering featuring some of the world's leading shooting stars and Olympic champions.The ceremony was attended by H.E Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain, Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC); Mr Luciano Rossi, President of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF); Dr. Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr, President of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, Vice-President of the Asian Shooting Confederation and Chairman of the Organising Committee; Dr. Ahmad Abdulla Al Buenain, Director General of the Local Organizing Committee for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 and Chief Executive Officer of the Organising Committee for the Asian Games Doha 2030; Mr Duaij Al Otaibi, President of the Kuwait and Arab Shooting Federations and Secretary-General of the Asian Shooting Confederation; as well as representatives of the participating delegations.In his opening address, Dr. Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr welcomed the distinguished guests and participating delegations to Doha, the global capital of sport, which has become a regular meeting point for champions and a prominent destination for competition and sporting achievements. Qatar's Rokaia El Baz Wins Gold at Hungary Youth Contender
Budapest- Qatar table tennis player Rokaia El Baz won gold in the girls' under-15 singles at the Youth Contender tournament in Szombathely, Hungary, which featured leading young players from around the world.El Baz reached the final after defeating several opponents, including players from South Korea and Kazakhstan, before beating Chinese Taipei's Yin Pei-En 3-0 to claim the title.She began the knockout rounds with a 3-0 win over Poland's Zarzycka Martyna, followed by an identical victory over Czech player Laura Marsikova in the round of 16. She then defeated South Korea's Bae Jina 11-9, 11-7 and 11-5 in the quarterfinals, before overcoming Kazakhstan's Zhanya Bekmukhambetova 11-3, 11-1 and 12-10 in the semifinals.The gold adds to El Baz's achievements this season, following three medals at the Sandefjord Contender in Norway, two silver and one bronze, and a bronze in the girls' under-15 singles at the Tashkent Contender in Uzbekistan.The latest achievement further adds to Qatar's international table tennis record and highlights the development of young Qatari talent and its ability to compete against leading players in their age groups.
FIP World Cup Qatar 2026 gets underway
DOHA - Qatar suffered a 3-0 defeat to Portugal in their opening tie in the men's competition of the FIP World Cup Qatar 2026 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex yesterday.Portugal, bronze medallists in the 2024 edition, proved too strong for the hosts, winning all three matches in straight sets to make a winning start to their Group C campaign.Pedro Araujo and Pedro Graca put Portugal ahead with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Qatar's Mohammed Saadon al-Kuwari and Hamad Adel Waly.Diogo Jesus and Pedro Perry then sealed the tie, beating Rashed Nawaf and Mishari Nawaf 6-4, 6-4. Miguel Deus and Nuno Deus completed the clean sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Rayan Abdulla Aljufairi and Essa Shannan Alharrasi.Qatar will now look to bounce back against Chile and Germany in Group C as they seek to reach the knockout stages.
