Manama: Qatar’s Olympic champion Fares Ibrahim is set to begin his campaign in the 102 kg category at the 2024 IWF World Weightlifting Championships on Friday.
The Tokyo 2020 gold medalist has been training diligently under the guidance of his coach, Ibrahim Hassouna, as he prepares for the prestigious event. Held from December 6 to 15 in Bahrain, the tournament is one of the year's most significant weightlifting competitions, marking the culmination of the 2024 season.
This year’s championship features 473 athletes from 92 countries, including 246 men and 227 women.
Fares, who recently competed at the Paris Olympics earlier this year, will aim to close out 2024 on a high note and continue his remarkable weightlifting journey on the international stage.
