Cairo: The Qatar National Golf Team has added a new chapter to its record of success, with Daniil Sokolov claiming victory at the Egypt Open Golf Championship, a tournament sanctioned by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and part of the Arab Golf Federation Series. The championship concluded last Saturday in Cairo.Displaying exceptional form and composure, Sokolov dominated the three-round event, finishing nine-under par (-9) to secure the title ahead of a strong field of top Arab and international golfers. Team Qatar defeat Oman in West Asia Beach Volleyball Tour
Muscat: Team Qatar claimed a straight-sets victory over Oman today in the preliminary round of the 4th West Asia Beach Volleyball Tour for men and women, currently taking place in the Omani capital, Muscat, and continuing until October 23.The Qatari men’s duo, Mahmoud Essam and Saif Al-Majid, delivered an impressive performance to defeat the home team 2–0, winning both sets convincingly 21–7 and 21–8.In the women’s competition, Qatar’s team, represented by Haya Abu Issa and Leila Mohammed, also triumphed over Oman’s pair, Al-Shaimaa and Furat, in straight sets 21–17 and 21–6 after a composed and dominant display.The Qatari teams aim to maintain their strong form and achieve top results in the upcoming rounds, building on their recent international success — most notably their title win at the Newport Beach Elite16 Tour in the United States, part of the FIVB Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 series.These participations are part of the Qatar Volleyball Association’s strategic preparation plan for the 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships, to be held in Adelaide, Australia, from November 14 to 23, featuring 48 of the world’s best national teams.Team Qatar continues to strengthen its record of international and Olympic achievements, highlighted by the historic bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a fourth-place finish at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Main Draw of FIP Asia Padel Cup 2025 to begin on Monday
Doha: The main draw of the inaugural FIP Asia Padel Cup Qatar 2025 will begin tomorrow, Monday, at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, with 17 nations competing in the men’s category and 14 in the women’s. The tournament runs until October 24, marking the first-ever continental edition of the event organized by the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel, and Badminton Federation.The three-day qualifying stage concluded today, Sunday, paving the way for the start of the decisive main rounds.Based on its international ranking, Team Qatar received direct qualification to the main draw without taking part in the qualifiers. The Qatari men’s team will open its campaign tomorrow against Kuwait in Group B, while Australia will face Pakistan in the same group.The official draw, held this evening, placed eight teams into two groups: Group A includes the UAE, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iran, while Group B features Qatar, Kuwait, Australia, and Pakistan. In the women’s competition, Iran will meet the UAE, and Saudi Arabia will face Japan in Group A, while Australia takes on Indonesia, and the Philippines meets Thailand in Group B.The final day of the men’s qualifiers saw Kuwait defeat Indonesia 2–1 in Group A, Pakistan beat Thailand 3–0 in Group B, Jordan overcome South Korea 3–0 in Group C, and Japan triumph over the Philippines 3–0 in Group D. 67 Team Qatar athletes to compete at the Asian Youth Games
Manama: The 3rd Asian Youth Games kick off tomorrow in the Kingdom of Bahrain, with the official opening ceremony set for Wednesday. The Games will run until October 31, bringing together more than 5,000 athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees across Asia.Team Qatar will be represented by 67 athletes competing in 16 sports, including athletics, badminton, 3x3 basketball, equestrian (show jumping), golf, judo, jiu-jitsu, cycling, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, wrestling, volleyball, beach volleyball, and boxing. Female athletes will compete in four sports: athletics, badminton, volleyball, and beach volleyball.Qatar’s men’s volleyball team will be the first to compete, facing China tomorrow in Group B, which also includes Iran. The squad features Ahmed Taleb, Dahami Al-Ruwaili, Ghanem Al-Basti, Khalid Abdullah, Tamim Al-Awad, Hamad Ibrahim, Mazen Belorosi, Abdullah Al-Shaiba, Omar Awamleh, Badr Al-Zanari, Abdulrahman Ali, and Nawaf Al-Shammari.The volleyball competition includes 12 teams divided into four groups: Group A (Bahrain, Pakistan, Mongolia), Group B (Qatar, Iran, China), Group C (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia), and Group D (Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Indonesia).Meanwhile, the Qatar women’s volleyball team will begin their campaign tomorrow against Iran in Group A, which also features Bahrain. The competitions will take place across three main venues: Isa Sports City, Khalifa Sports City, and the Bahrain International Exhibition Center, along with several other supporting facilities.Head of Qatar’s volleyball delegation Saeed Jumaa Al-Hitmi described the team’s participation as an important step in developing the next generation of Qatari players.“We’re aware of the challenge ahead, especially with strong teams like China, the Asian champions, and Iran, the world champions, in our group,” Al-Hitmi said.“This tournament is a valuable opportunity for our players to gain experience and test themselves against top-level competition. Our goal is to represent Qatari volleyball in the best possible way and demonstrate that we have promising talents capable of competing with the best.”He added that the team’s preparation phase went well, expressing full confidence in the players’ readiness to deliver strong performances throughout the competition.
Team Qatar to participate in West Asia Beach Volleyball Tour in Muscat
Doha: The Qatar national beach volleyball team will take part in the 4th West Asia Beach Volleyball Tour for men and women, set to be held in Muscat, Oman, from October 17 to 23.The first leg of the tour was hosted in Doha, followed by the second in Amman (Jordan) and the third in Lebanon.Qatar’s men’s team will be represented by Mahmoud Essam and Saif Al Majid, while the women’s team will feature Haya Abu Issa and Laila Mohammed. The delegation, which departed for Muscat today, is led by Khalifa Al Hamad, a member of the Beach Volleyball Committee.The Qatari squad aims to continue its strong performances on the regional circuit, building on its recent success at the Elite16 Newport Beach World Tour event in California, USA, where Team Qatar claimed the title.During that tournament, Cherif Younousse achieved a new personal milestone by recording the highest number of blocking points, surpassing Sweden’s Jakob Helteing Nilsson and Latvia’s Kristians Fokerots.The team is also preparing for the upcoming 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships (Adelaide 2025), to be held in Adelaide, Australia, from November 14 to 23, featuring 48 elite teams from around the world.Team Qatar has a proud record on the global stage, highlighted by winning the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and finishing fourth at the Paris 2024 Olympics — achievements that continue to reinforce Qatar’s standing among the world’s top beach volleyball nations.
FIP Asia Padel Cup begins
Doha: Bahrain, China, Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan won their Group matches in the men's section of the FIP Asia Padel Cup while Lebanon, Indonesia, UAE and Saudi Arabia won their respective group matches in the women's section on the first day of the seven-day championship which kicked off at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Friday evening.In the men's section, Bahrain playing on GrandStand 1 overcame a spirited challenge of Indonesia in Group A to start off their campaign on a emphatic note. and keep themselves ahead in the race to qualify for the last-eight stage of the championship.Kuwait is the third team in Group A.In the other results of the men's section, in Group B, China defeated Thailand 3-0 to keep them ahead of the qualifying race, Pakistan is the third team in the group and will start their campaign on Saturday.In Group C, Saudi Arabia overcame South Korea 3-0 to make a successful start to their campaign, Jordan is the third team in the group, while in Group D, Kazakhstan defeated Philippines 3-0 to make a strong start to the campaign while in the same group, Lebanon defeated Japan 2-1Only one team from each of the four men's groups will qualify for the last-eight stage where they join four other countries UAE, Qatar, Australia, and Iran, having qualified for the last-eight based on the FIP Ranking.In the women's section, Lebanon, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and UAe were off to winning starts in their respective group matches.Hosts Qatar gave a spirited fight but went down fighting 3-0 to Lebanon in the Group A match. The other team in Group A is Thailand.In the other results, in Group B Indonesia defeated Kuwait 3-0, the other team in Group B is Bahrain. In Group C, UAE got the better of Pakistan 2-1 and also in Group C, Saudi Arabia overcame China 2-1.The group leaders from each of the groups will qualify for the last-eight stage where they will be joined by Australia, Japan, Iran, and the Philippines who have already qualified for the Final 8 on virtue of their FIp rankings.Saturday's matches begin at 1.30pm, in the men's section, Kuwait take on Bahrain in Group A, while in Group B, Pakistan meet neighbours China.
