Qatar volleyball team qualify for Olympic Qualification Tournament
Doha: Qatar Volleyball team qualified for the FIVB Volleyball Men's Qualification Tournaments for Paris 2024 Olympics after placing themselves within the top 25 teams in the world.
Qatar will battle for their maiden Olympic Games appearance at the Qualifiers where six teams will secure tickets to Paris Games next year.
Details of the qualification tournaments will be announced by FIVB, the governing body of world volleyball, later.
France have already qualified for the Games due to the host status, while Russia have been made ineligible. The remaining 24 teams at the top of the FIVB rankings will be drawn under three pools, based on the hosts venues of the qualifying tournaments (Brazil, Japan and China).
Two nations from each pool will receive qualification for the July 27-August 11, 2024 multi-sport extravaganza.
On the other hand, Qatar's beach volleyball national team consisting of the duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan won the bronze medal at the Miami Beach 2023 Tour in the King of the Court Tournament.
The Qatari national team emerged in third place behind Estonian duo (Nolvak/Tiisaar) and the Chilean duo (Aravena/Droguett) in the competitions that were held for four consecutive days.
Younousse and Tijan ranked third in the world ranking, which was recently issued by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games bronze medal winners, the Qatari team has also achieved many distinguished results in recent years making the team one of the world's first teams in the world rankings.
The Qatari national team was recently crowned winners of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Championship for men and women - (Western Zone) title after (2-1) victory over Oman in the final of the championship hosted by the Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) at the beach courts at Al Gharafa Sports Club, and qualifies for the 2023 AVC Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.
Inaugural Qatar Universities Handball League 2023 kicks off
DOHA - The first edition of the Qatar Universities Handball League 2023 for men , was kicked off at the Qatar University’s new sport Arena on Sunday and will run from 12th to 21st of March, with participation of a number of high education institutions and Universities who are competing in a friendly environment full of sportsmanship and fair play.
The opening scene of Universities Handball League 2023 on Sunday was attended by senior officials and board members of the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF) , along with representatives of Universities, participating teams and students.
Qatar Universities Handball League is the third consecutive event to be organized within a month under the umbrella of the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF) , according to its calendar for the sport season 2023.
Most notably, the sport arena at the Qatar Foundation is hosting now the competitions of first edition of the Qatar Universities basketball League 2023 for Men & Women, which is running from the mid February to the 15th of March, while at the Qatar Foundation Cricket Ground students are competing for top honors in the first Qatar Universities Cricket League 2023 , from 25th of February to 19th of March.
These opening editions of Qatar Universities league are seeing a big turnout and positive response from high education institutions , teaching staff and students , on the top them , Qatar University, Doha University for Science & Technology, Qatar Foundation Universities and High military institutes.
In a pre-event statement on Sunday, the QCSF Secretary General, Mr. Rashid Saed Mohammed said the QCSF’s 2023 calendar is busy with several sport tournaments and events along the year 2023 , he hopefully these activities could be more effective in spreading the sport culture among students.
“ The QCSF will keep interacting and participating in all the sport and community events annually organized by the State of Qatar” added Mr. Rashid.
Third QOC Beach Games enter knockout stages on Tuesday
DOHA – The football and volleyball events of the third QOC Beach Games , which running from 10th to 17th of March at the Cultural Village Katara will enter the semifinals stage on Tuesday.
In the men’s beach football on Monday, Police Institute defeated Al-Quds 10-0, Green Owl outclass Dukhan 10-0, Lusail beat Al Najma 12-6, Al Jasra got better of Dakhira 7-1. These four winners booked their spots in the semifinals stage.
Tuesday’s football semifinals , Green Owl will shake hands with Lusail as Al Jasra will lock horns against Dukhan in the second semifinals.
In the the Men’s volleyball, F 45 team will shake hands with Dafna in the first semifinals game, as Edge Fitness will play Police Sport Federation in the second semifinals games.
In the men’s boxing final on Monday, Marvin Ssali claimed the first place in the 57kgs, Messaoud Hadji won the runner- up place and the third place went to Ihsan Khan.
In the men 63,5 kgs boxing final, the first place went to Bravol Hassan Buyinza, Hakimu Ssempijja seized the second place and Sowed Kyewalyanga finished third.
Boxer, Sofiane Ahmouz produced solid performance to win first place in the men’s 71kgs as Desire Busuulwa took the second place and third place went to Bagoma Sultanov.
In the men’s 80kgs, Ali Werghi won the first place, Ahmed Said Al Maqbali finished second and Bachir Meliani took the third place.
At the crowning ceremony, the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation President, Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid Al Thani shared the honoring ceremony of the top winners with attendance of QBWF officials and the QOC Beach Games’s Organizing Committee members.
Qatar defeat Saudi Arabia in Asian Men's Beach Handball Championships
Bali : Qatar men's beach handball team kept their winning streak for third consecutive game after defeating Saudi Arabi 2-0 at the 9th Asian Men's Beach Handball Championships on Sunday.
By Sunday’s victory over Saudi Arabia , team Qatar raised up points tally to six points from three games and will shake hands with the defending champions, Iran on Wednesday.
The event is held in Bali, Indonesia from 10 to 19 March 2023 and serves as a qualification tournament for the 2024 IHF Men's and Women's Beach Handball World Championships.
Team Qatar were pooled in Group A with Iran, Philippines, Republic of Korea and Saudi Arabia while Group (B) includes Indonesia, Vietnam, Oman, Hong Kong, Kuwait and China.
Qatar’s Squad:
Muhsen Al Yafei, Mohamed Al Sousi, Mohamed Hassan, Ali Mohamed, Abdulrazaq Murad, Amer Denger, Hamdi Ayad, Hani Kakhi, Mohamed Saleh and Sayed Kenawi.
American duo win mixed team trap gold in Doha
DOHA - United States of America topped the medals tally after William Hinton and Alicia Kathleen Gough won the mixed team trap gold on the final day of the ISSF World Cup Shotgun Doha 2023 at the Lusail Shooting Range on Sunday.
Hinton and Gough beat Kuwait’s Talal Alrashidi and Sarah Alhawal 6-0 in the gold medal match.
USA finished the championship with six medals – three gold, two silver and a bronze. Hinton in particular was on fire yesterday, as he shot a perfect 90, including all of the targets in the qualification round.
The bronze medal was won by Poland’s Sandra Bernal and Piotr Kowalczyk, who edged out Turkiye Pelin Rumeysa Kaya and Tolga Tuncer 6-4 in a thrilling play-off.
The qualification round was topped by Alhawal and AlRashidi after the Kuwaiti duo finished with 145 hits. Hinton and Gough were close second with 144, followed by Kaya and Tuncer and Bernal and Kowalczyk pair’s 143 each.
The Indian pair of Prithviraj Tondaiman and Shreyasi Singh finished sixth as they shot a combined score of 142 out of 150 in the qualification, which was a point less than the bronze medal match qualifying score of 143.
Two Qatari teams, Hassan Kholoud Al Khalaf/Saeed Abusharib and Metha Hamad Albinali/Ahmad Majid Al Khelaifi, finished in 20th and 23rd positions with 133 and 124 hits respectively.
The nine-day World Cup was hosted by the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association under the auspices of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).
Italy, with one gold medal and three bronze, finished second ahead of Australia and Turkiye who won one gold medal each to share the third place.
The 12-leg ISSF World Cup series will now move to Bhopal, India for the Rifle and Pistol rounds before six more rounds which will take place in Larnaca (Cyprus), Lima (Peru), Cairo (Egypt), Baku (Azerbaijan), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Lonato (Italy) and Rio De Janeiro (Brazil).
A total of 465 athletes from 63 countries including 30 Olympic athletes took part in the ISSF World Cup Shotgun - Doha 2023 (March 5-12).
QOC Beach Games get big response as it enters Day Four
DOHA – In a scene full of sportsmanship and fair play , the third (QOC) Beach Games 2023 have seen competitive games between participants held at the Cultural Village Katara on Sunday.
In the men’s open water swimming on Sunday, Naoufel Charaf eddine claimed the first place, Vadym Lepskyy snatched the runner up place, as the third place went to Shalbab Mohammed Al Waleed..
In the Men’s U-15 open water swimming, Hassan Yousef won first place, Mohammed Aziz Ismail seized the second place and El Ekhalda Abdulla took the third place.
In U-14 Open water swimming, Morsi Ziad claimed the first place, El Khamayda Abdullah took the second place while Marwan Ahmed Hassan seized the third place.
Sunday schedule has seen mouth-watering games in Boxing, where Ihsan Khan beat Mohammed Mansour in the U-57gm, Hakeemo Sembiga defeated Sowed Kyewalyanga in the 63gm, while in the 71gm, Sufyan Ahwaz overcome Ali Arto.
QOC Beach Games are running from 10th to 17th of March with more than 800 participants who are competing for top honors in seven beach games, football , volleyball, 3x3 basketball, boxing , karate, swimming and Aquathlon.
This current edition of QOC Beach Games is organized in the frame of cooperation between the QOC and the Indonesian Olympic Committee with purpose of transferring the incredible experience it has after hosting the inaugural edition of ANOC World Beach Games in 2019 to their Indonesians counterparts who will be hosting the next edition from 5th to 12th August, 2023.
