Steady Progress for QOC Beach Games 2023
Doha: The competitions of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Beach Games 2023 in its third edition continued in style at the Cultural Village Katara on Saturday.
The event is taking place from 10th to 17th of March with more than 800 participants are competing for top honors in seven beach games including football, volleyball, 3x3 basketball, boxing, karate, swimming and Aquathlon.
This current edition of QOC Beach Games is organized in the frame of cooperation between the QOC and the Indonesian Olympic Committee with purpose of transferring the incredible experience it has after hosting the inaugural edition of ANOC World Beach Games in 2019 to their Indonesians counterparts who will be hosting the next edition from 5th to 12th August, 2023.
Aziz Hadaj claimed the first place in in men’s Aquathlon Event ahead of Rachid Boudalla in the second place while Leon Berchie finished third.
In women’s event, Adeline Cormary took the first place while Daneila Sposi and Arancha Barcenilla claimed the second and third places respectively.
Men’s football event also began on Friday where Lusail defeated Al Dakhira 8-0 while Green Owl Overpowered Al Quds 7-2. Moreover, Dukhan edged past Police Institute 4-0.
On the other hand, Edge Fitness began their campaign at Men’s volleyball event with a 2-0 victory over Al Shawaheen while Police Sports Association edged past Al Dafna 2-0.
Qatar beat Philippines in Asian Men's Beach Handball Championships
Bali: Qatar men's beach handball team defeated Philippines 2-0 in their second match at the 9th Asian Men's Beach Handball Championships on Saturday.
The event is held in Bali, Indonesia from 10 to 19 March 2023 and serves as a qualification tournament for the 2024 IHF Men's and Women's Beach Handball World Championships.
The Qatari team find themselves in Group A, facing Iran, Philippines, Republic of Korea and Saudi Arabia while Group (B) includes Indonesia, Vietnam, Oman, Hong Kong, Kuwait and China.
Qatar’s Squad:
Muhsen Al Yafei, Mohamed Al Sousi, Mohamed Hassan, Ali Mohamed, Abdulrazaq Murad, Amer Denger, Hamdi Ayad, Hani Kakhi, Mohamed Saleh and Sayed Kenawi.
Tuzun, Smith shoot trap gold at ISSF World Cup Doha
Doha: Turkiye’s Oguzhan Tuzun and Australia’s Penny Smith emerged as the men’s and women trap event winners respectively following a pulsating finals of the ISSF World Cup Shotgun - Doha 2023 at the Lusail Shooting Range on Saturday.
The men’s action saw some solid marksmanship of two rounds (15 and 20 targets) and eight qualified shooters before the elimination brought it down to four and eventually three.
Turkiye’s Tuzun capped it with a total score of 33 successful shots for the gold while Britain’s Matthew John Coward-Holley claimed the silver with 30 hits.
India’s Prithviraj Tondaiman took the bronze with a score of 20. Kuwait’s Naser Meqlad finished fourth (13).
Speaking through his “translator”, Turkiye’s Ambassador to Qatar HE Mehmet Mustafa Goksu, who was also one of the chief guests at the presentation ceremony for the men’s trap, Tuzun said he was very happy at doing his best.
Later, while speaking to the media, the 40-year-old champion said, “It has been lovely being in Qatar. The people are very nice and now very dear to me. That helped me prepare my best to do what I came here for.
“During the finals, I missed two targets and it became challenging but I was determined to do my best.”
Earlier, in women’s trap final, Smith Penny of Australia prevailed over Zuzana Rehak Stefecekova of Slovakia in a shoot-off after they tied 28 each. Penny ended up with a successful shot to claim the gold while Stefecekova had to settle for the silver.
Kathleen Alicia Gough of USA took bronze (20) while Spain’s Fatima Galvez ended fourth.
Speaking of her victory, the 26-year-old Penny said, “I’m delighted with the way I achieved the win. “Feels great. I’ve been working pretty hard on some specific things at home, and it came out and today was a good day. So it’s turned out well.”
Both of the top two finishers missed seven out of their 35 targets in the medal round, but Smith said she adjusted herself to the conditions.
“To be honest, I’m not really sure (why we all missed many targets). But whatever it was, we all seemed to make an adjustment right at about the same time, and that worked out. So it ended up well. But that was a battle for sure,” she said.
Smith also said the standard of the sport among women is growing. “The quality is really high. The standard is growing in women’s trap and it’s just fantastic too. The competition is really ramping up leading into the Paris Olympics next year,” she said.

Third QOC Beach Games 2023 get underway
DOHA - The third edition of the Qatar Olympic Committee Beach Games 2023, was kicked off at the Cultural Village Katara on Friday and will run from 10th to 17th of March with more than 800 participants are competing for top honors in seven beach games, , football , volleyball, 3x3 basketball, boxing , karate, swimming and Aquathlon.
The Games opening ceremony was attended by H.E QOC Secretary General , Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain, H.E General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), Dr. Khaled bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, H.E Ambassador of Indonesia to Qatar, Mr. Ridwan Hassan, senior sport personalities, Presidents of National Sports Federations and Directors of QOC Departments.
By hosting this event, the QOC aims to promote culture of beach games inside the Qatari community, increases base of participants and keeps its success alive after hosted incredible 2019 ANOC Beach Games in Doha.
These beach games are companied by entertainment and educational programs allocated for all age groups , with purpose of keeping sustainability campaign goes forward and to tell both citizen and resident about their part in preserving the environment and beaches in Qatar.
Opening day has seen mouth-watering competitions in beach football, beach volleyball, Aquathlon and boxing. Amal Mohamed wins Running Target gold at Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup
Jakarta - Qatar’s Amal Mohamed claimed the gold medal of women’s 10m Running Target at Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia from 01 to 10 March 2023On the other hand, Qatar’s Ahmed Al Sada took the gold medal of Archery event under 18 years at Al Sulymania Shooting Championships.Assistant Secretary General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association Mr. Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti applauded the results achieved by team Qatar shooters at two events.
