Team Qatar athlete wins Karate bronze at GCC Games
KUWAIT- Team Qatar athlete Khalid Sameer has fought tooth and nail to snatch the bronze medal of the Men’s Kumite Karate over 84kg at the ongoing GCC Games in Kuwait on Monday.
Monday’s bronze medal was Qatar’s second medal in Karate event, after Adham Hashim clinched the bronze medal of Men’s individual Kata on Sunday.
The GCC Games which began on May 16, feature the participation of more than 1700 athletes competing in 16 sports including athletics, 3x3 basketball, basketball, cycling (road), e-sports, fencing, futsal, handball, ice hockey, judo, karate, padel, shooting, swimming, tennis, table tennis and volleyball. The state of Qatar is represented by 170 athletes.
Team Qatar win padel gold in GCC Games
Kuwait: Qatar’s padel team clinched gold at the GCC Games in Kuwait, winning all their four matches in the round-robin league.
In their final match at the Yourmouk Sports Club on Saturday, Qatar scored a 3-0 win over Kuwait.
Abdulaziz Al Kuwari and Mohammed Abdullah got Qatar off to a 1-0 lead winning the first match against Ahmed Mohammed and Abdulaziz Mayouf 6-2, 6-4.
Mohammed Al Kuwari and Abdullah Al Hijji then got past Abdulrahman Alawadhi and Mohammed Abdal 6-3, 6-2.
Rayyan Al Jufairi and Ali Al Sayagh secured Qatar’s victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Najeed Al Awadhi and Ali Hayat.
In handball, Qatar edged past hosts Kuwait in a nail-biting round-robin match.
Qatar won 24-23 after seeing off a determined comeback from their opponents in the second half. Qatar, who led by a comfortable 16-9 margin at the break, struggled in the second session as Kuwait intensified the tempo. Though the hosts did well to bridge the deficit, Qatar held on grimly to emerge winners.
Anis Zouaoui and Hani Kakhi topped the scorers’ list for Qatar with five and four goals respectively.
This was Qatar’s third win in as many matches and they top the table with six points from three matches. They play Bahrain in their final encounter on Tuesday in a match that will also decide how they finish on the podium.
QOC hosts Volunteers Promotional Workshop for FIFA World Cup 2022
DOHA – The Qatar Olympic Committee has hosted volunteers promotional workshop for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 at its headquarters on Tuesday to support the sustained efforts of Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy to shed light on the valuable role of volunteers.
At Tuesday’s workshop, Director of Volunteer Strategy Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Mr. Nasser Al Mogaiseeb and the department’s staff , Mrs Fatima Al Magid and Kareem Qadiri delivered a presentation on the FIFA World Cup 2022, venues, mascot cultural values, objectives of volunteer strategy department as per the FIFA requirements.
Worthwhile, basic conditions of volunteering, volunteering registration measures, volunteering fields, volunteering training locations and post-event gains that volunteers can reach out were exhaustively discussed at the workshop.
This promotional workshop came in the frame of the cooperation with the volunteer strategy department and FIFA , where QOC joins hands with them to interact and promote for the volunteer Program and set up a volunteer data base for FIFA World Cup 2022
The QOC’s Human Resources and Administrative Affairs Department spares no effort to help staff participating in the most mega sport events to meet its strategic goal that states :” Create attractive and ideal working environment for better talents and experiences”.
A total of 20,000 enthusiastic volunteers will work across 45 functional areas at official and non-official sites such as stadiums, training sites, the airport, fan zones, hotels, and public transportation hubs.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old on 1 October 2022 and speak English – Arabic is an advantage. No previous experience is needed and candidates from all backgrounds and different parts of the world are welcome to apply.
Ali Turki claims foil silver at GCC Games
Kuwait: Qatar's Ali Turki claimed the silver medal of foil fencing event at third edition of GCC Games to be concluded on Tuesday.
Moreover, Qatar's Adham Hashem took the bronze medal of Men's Kata event on Sunday.
The two medals brought Qatar's tally of medals to 48 including 14 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 14 bronze medals.
On the other hand, Qatar women's 3x3 basketball team suffered a 14-15 defeat against UAE while Qatar men's tennis team lost to Kuwait 1-2 on Sunday.
Team Qatar to face USA in Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Ostrava
PRAGUE - Qatar’s beach volleyball duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan will take on American counterparts in the third game of the ongoing Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour, Ostrava, Czech Republic on Friday.
Team Qatar is looking for a new glory in this championship, which brings together the best 16 teams internationally classified (Eite 16). The championship is running from 25th to 29th of May.
Most notably, the Qatari duo suffered defeat at the hands of Brazilians counterparts in the first game and secured a 2-0 victory over Estonia in the second game.
Nawaf and Shannan win doubles silver medal
Kuwait-Qatar’s Rashed Nawaf and Mubarak Shannan battled hard in the tennis doubles final at the GCC Games on Thursday but failed to get past their Saudi Arabian opponents and settled for the silver medal.
The Qatari duo lost 5-7, 4-6 to Ammar Alhogbani and Saud Alhogbani in the title round.
Qatar won another medal on the day when the table tennis doubles team of Ahmed Khaleel Al Mohannadi and Abdul Wahab secured a bronze. They beat Bahrain’s Rashed Rashed and Sayed Ali Mahfoodh 11-4, 11-8, 12-10 in the playoff.
In handball, Qatar scored a 29-21 win over UAE, their second successive win in the competition. Qatar, who led 14-8 at the break, were helped by splendid seven-goal efforts from Anis Zouaoui and Amir Denguir. Mohammed Abdulmajeed scored four goals.
Qatar’s padel team also notched their second win in the competition, handing Saudi Arabia a 3-0 defeat. Abdulaziz Al Kuwari and Mohammed Abdulla won 6-0, 6-1 against Abdulrahman Alazzam and Sattam Alshahrani in the first match.
In the second match, Mohammed Al Kuwari and Abdulla Al Hijji prevailed against Hassan Al Abdullah and Musaeed Alazzam with a similar scoreline.
Jabor Al Mutawa and Mohammed Al Khanji wrapped up the contest with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Omar Al Thagib and Fahad Al Saad.
