Team Qatar to participate in Asian Beach Volleyball Championships
DOHA - Qatar’s beach volleyball team consists of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan (Qatar 1) and Mahmoud Essam and Said Al Mageed ( Qatar 2) will participate in the 2021 Asian Men’s Beach Volleyball Championships which will run from November 23 to 27 in Phuket city of Thailand.
Most notably, this championship was scheduled to be held in July 2020 in China, but has been postponed twice , until finally approved to be held in Thailand according to the applicable measures of COVID-19 preventive.
Qatar's beach volleyball team of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan maintains on the top of world standing with total of (4,880) points after the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) released the latest ranking.
HH the Amir attends opening of World Padel Championship
Doha- HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani attended today evening the opening of the World Padel Championship Qatar 2021, hosted by the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation (QTSBF) at the courts of the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
HH the Amir watched part of the match between the Qatari team and its Belgian counterpart.
The opening was attended by a number of their Excellencies Sheikhs, ministers, senior officials, guests of the championship and fans of the Padel sport, amid precautionary measures to limit the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19). (QNA)
Qatar Padel Team return home to a warm welcome
Doha: The delegation of Qatar's padel national team returned home to a warm welcome on Saturday after qualifying for Qatar OOREDOO World Padel Championship 2021.
Qatar defeated Japan 2-1 in the final match of ASIA - AFRICA Qualifications held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and booked their spot in the world championship.
The Qatari delegation was received at the Hamad International Airport by the QOC Secretary General H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain and Board Members of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation.
H.E QOC Secretary General lauded the achievement made by team Qatar stars who qualified to the 2021 world Championship to begin in Doha on Monday.
Al-Buenain also appreciated the efforts of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation which made this achievement possible.
Team Qatar began their campaign in the ASIA - AFRICA Qualifications on winning note, beating Senegal and Iran 2-0 to lead their group and qualify to the semifinals where they edged past UAE.
The world championship will be staged at Khalifa Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha from November 15-20, 2021 with participation of 320 players from 16 nations.

World Padel Championship to begin on Monday
Doha: After several weeks of exciting buildup, the Qatar Ooredoo World Padel Championship is finally here.
The first of its kind to be held in Asia and the Middle East, the tournament kicks off on Monday at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
Over 320 players from 16 nations are participating in the competition, which ends on Saturday, November 20.
As per the draw held on Sunday, Team Qatar will play in group (C) alongside Brazil, Italy and Belgium.
The biennial championship, established in 1992 for both male and female players, has generally been hosted in Europe and the Americas, with Argentina being the most successful nation to date with a total of 13 medals (10 gold and three silver) won by the men's team and 12 medals (8 gold and four silver) for the women's.
The Spanish duo of Alejandro Galán Romo and Juan Lebrón Chincoa, the world's top-two, are some of the stars to watch out for in the men's event. Gemma Triay Pons and her Spanish compatriot Alejandra Salazar Bengoechea, who are leading the women's CUPRA rankings, are arguably the standouts in the women's event.
Padel has been gaining increasing popularity in Qatar, and the country inaugurated the biggest indoor padel court in the Arab world in July.
QOC celebrates a new chapter of Achievements at Sports Excellence Awards
Doha: The Qatar Olympic Committee held its annual Sport Excellence Awards at Barahat Msheireb on Sunday to honor those who made glorious achievements and took Qatar’s name to greater heights at the Olympic and sports levels during the year 2021. The ceremony attended by HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, the president of Qatar Olympic Committee.
In Sunday’s ceremonial event , awards were presented to athletes , administrators, sport personalities and institutions supporting the sports , with the attendance of prominent sport and public figures, representatives of government and privative organizations who spared no effort to supporting Qatari sport movement over a tricky sport season in which COVID-19 challenges have changed the path of the sports worldwide.
H.E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, the president of Qatar Olympic Committee confirmed that this Sport Excellence Awards comes in the light of QOC’s constant commitment to honor the athletes of prominent achievements along with the partners from Ministries and institutions that are supporting the sport movement.
His Excellency lauded all the achievements being made this year, appreciated team Qatar’s new chapter of achievements in Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and described the Qatar’s participation as the best – ever in the nation’s sports history, which ended with 4 medals, including two gold medals claimed by Faris Ibrahim and Mutaz Barshim and a bronze medal clinched by the Qatar beach volleyball team, in addition to Abdulrahman Abdulqader broze metal at the shot pot competitions of the Paralympic games.
H.E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani said that these ongoing series of success of team Qatar at different domains are an outcome of unlimited support given by His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the first supporter of sports.
.The president of the Qatar Olympic Committee expressed his pride and gratitude of all efforts made by team Qatar stars who honored Qatari sports at different regional, continental and international levels. H.E wished good luck and more record of achievements for team Qatar in upcoming sport events.
Speaking during the event, the Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary General HE Jassim Rashid Al Buenain delivered messages of thanks and gratitude to His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani for his unlimited support to the Qatar sports , that keeps up our nation’s achievements grow year after year at all domains.
H.E Secretary General said: ” We made history and stole the spotlights at Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games after adding unprecedented achievements to the Qatar’s sport record. Our team Qatar won two gold medals and secured another two bronze medals to lead the Arabic standings at the Games as Qatar took the 41st place in the overall standings.
“ This achievement came on the background of constant effort over many years to develop Qatari sport movement in order to reach the highest level of success .
On this occasion, we appreciate the role played by the Ministries, government bodies, authorities, public institutions and private companies in supporting the country’s sport movement, in way that keep our plans, goals and ambitions applicable and possible” Added the QOC Secretary General

Team Qatar to take on Azerbaijan in UEFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers
BAKU , Azerbaijan - Qatar’ senior football team concluded training session on Saturday, in preparation for their match on Sunday against hosts Azerbaijan in the 10th round of Group A in the European qualifiers for the World Cup Qatar 2022.
The Qatari team just lost to Serbia 0-4, in the match that took place in Belgrade in the ninth round. It is worth noting that the European Football Association (UEFA) invited the Qatar Football Association to participate in the European qualifiers as a legal entity without calculating the results.
By appearing in European qualifiers, Qatar will get valuable match practice ahead of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021™, which will be held in Qatar from November 30 to December 18.
At the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021™, Qatar will play Bahrain in the opening match followed by games against Iraqi and Oman.
