Sheikh Joaan attends shooting training sessions and swimming competitions
Tokyo- H.E. President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani attended the pre-event training sessions of our trap shooter Mohammed Al Rumaihi held at Asaka Shooting Range on Tuesday.
Al Rumaihi will begin his Tokyo Olympic campaign with the qualification round on Wednesday.
The QOC President urged Qatar's ace shooter to do his best to write a new chapter in Qatar's sports history wishing him the best of luck in Wednesday's competitions.
H.E. Sheikh Joaan also attended Men's 200m breaststroke competitions held at Tokyo Aquatics Centre on Tuesday where Abdulaziz Al Obaidly concluded his participation in Tokyo Olympics with a new personal record of 2:23.22 minutes.
Qatar to take on Italy in a tricky beach volleyball game
Tokyo - Qatar’s Beach Volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan will return into action once again on Wednesday as they will face Italy's Adrian Carambula and Enrico Rossi in their second match at the Shiokaze Park.
Younousse and Tijan began their Tokyo Olympics campaign on high note on Sunday with a 21-17, 21-16 victory over Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland.
Younousse and Ahmed will play Wednesday's match after clinching the World No 1 spot in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) ranking for the first time on Monday.
The newly released list placed Qatar's duo right at the top with 5160 points ahead of Norway’s Anders Mol and Christian Sorum in the second place with 4960 points.
For his part, Qatar's trap shooter Mohammed Al Rumaihi stepped up his preparations for the Olympic Challenge.
Al Rumaihi had his final pre-event training session at Asaka Shooting Range on Tuesday.
Al Rumaihi will begin his Tokyo Olympic campaign with the qualification round on Wednesday.
Qatar’s promising swimmer Abdulaziz Al Obaidly made his Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old participated in Heat 1 of men’s 200m breaststroke held at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre where he clocked a time of 2:23:22 minutes to take the eighth place.
On the other hand, Qatar’s weightlifter Fares Ibrahim Hassona is intensifying his training sessions ahead of his participation in the Men’s weightlifting competition at Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Wednesday.
Likewise, Qatar’s rower Tala Abujbara is going hard on training for her Final E race of women’s singles sculls on July 30.
In football scene, the Qatar’s international football referee Abdallah Al Athba has expressed his gratitude and pride to be the first ever Qatari will represent the country’s football refereeing experience at Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
In statement to Qatar’s media delegation to Tokyo on Tuesday, Al Athba said:” It is great honor to see the Qatar’s refereeing experience for first time in the Olympics”.
“I have been selected by the FIFA as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR referee), to monitor the football games of both men and women teams in Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games” added Al Athba.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s athletes are all set to begin their campaign in athletics competitions from July 30. Qatar’s athletics squad includes Mutaz Barshim, Femi Ogunode Ashraf El Saifi, Abubaker Hayder, Musab Adam, Abdulrhaman Saieed Abdulrahman Samba and Bashayer al-Mnawari.
Miraitowa is the official mascot of the 2020 Summer Olympics, and Someity is the official mascot of the 2020 Summer Paralympics.
Miraitowa’s name is formed by combining two Japanese words “future” (Mirai) and “eternity” (towa) while Someity is named after someiyoshino, a type of cherry blossom.
Qatar’s Younousse and Tijan lead FIVB ranking
Tokyo - Qatar’s beach volleyball stars Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, who are presently competing at the Tokyo Olympic Games, reached the World No. 1 spot in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) ranking for the first time.
The new list released on Monday placed Younousse and Tijan right at the top with 5160 points. Last week’s top-ranked players, Norway’s Anders Mol and Christian Sorum, were pushed to second, with 4960 points.
The Qatari duo was ranked World No. 2 before their first match of the Olympic competition on Sunday.
Younousse and Ahmed have had a phenomenal run in the first half of 2021, where they entered five finals out of the seven four-star tournaments on the FIVB World Tour. They won one, the Cancun Hub tournament in May, and went down in hard-fought contests in the other four.
Reigning world champions Russians Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Oleg Stoyanovskiy are ranked third while USA’s Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb, and Czech Republic’s Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner are placed fourth and fifth respectively
Debutant Al Obaidly ready for Olympics experience
Tokyo - Qatar’s promising swimmer Abdulaziz Al Obaidly is ready to make his debut at Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games when he participate in the Men’s 200m breaststroke event on Tuesday.
By participating in this Tokyo 2020 Olympics and competing against top world champions, Al Obaidly will have an opportunity to develop his swimming skills and come back home with greater experience.
In statement on Monday, Al Obaidly said:” I will do my best and fight tooth and nail to improve my personal record and to gain further experience in swimming”.
In statement to the media on Monday, Qatar's Deputy Chef De Mission Ahmed Al Darweesh said:” Everything is going well, we are working together in full cooperation, we are doing our best to take up Qatar’s sport movement to new heights”.
Mohamed Al Rumaihi will complete the official training sessions of men's trap event at Asaka Shooting Range on Tuesday ahead of the qualifications to begin on Wednesday.
Mohamed al-Rumaihi secured his spot at Tokyo Olympics when he claimed the fifth place in the men’s trap event at the 2019 Asian Shooting Championships held in Doha, Qatar.

Team Qatar defeat El Salvador to reach Gold Cup semifinals
Arizona- Qatar, invited guests to the championship of North and Central America and the Caribbean, advanced to the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals.
Qatar defeated El Salvador 3-2 on goals by Al Moez Ali in the second and 55th minutes and an eighth-minute goal by Abdelaziz Hatim.
Joaquin Rivas scored in the 63rd and 66th minutes for El Salvador.
In the semifinals, they will play against the winner of Sunday night's game between the United States and Jamaica.

Tokyo-Qatar’s Beach Volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan began their Tokyo 2020 Olympics campaign on high note on Sunday.
Younousse and Tijan continued the solid performances they have shown on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour since the start of the 2021 season with a 21-17, 21-16 victory over Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland at the Shiokaze Park.
In their next match, Younousse and Tijan will take on Italy's Adrian Carambula and Enrico Rossi who suffered a 2-0 (21-18, 21-19) defeat at the hands of USA’s Jake Gibb and Tri Bourne on Sunday.
For her part, Team Qatar rower Tala Abujubara claimed the first place in E/F 1 Semifinal race on Sunday to qualify to final F of Women's Single Scull rowing event to be held on Thursday.
Tala clocked a time of 8:24:24 minutes to lead the standings ahead of Uganda's Kathleen Noble, Nigeria's Esther Toko and Sudan's Esraa Khogali.
Qatar’s Judo player, Ayoub Elidrissi suffered a defeat at the hands of Belorussia's Dzmitry Minkou in the Men’s 66 KG event.
Al Elidrissi participation in the Olympics is really a positive turning point in his career which will help him improve his international experience.
On the other hand, Team Qatar sprinter Bashayer Al-Manwari said "I’m really determined to break my personal record. I’m very proud to be part of these Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as I have been dreaming to participate in Olympics since long years ago, now my dream turned into reality and I’m the only Qatari female athlete to participate in the athletics competitions."
"Yes, it is a beautiful and challenging task but I’m ready to take the responsibility and raise the scale of challenge against top competitors. I have been fond of triple jump since my early years as a young girl, I did run of fantastic achievements in the triple jump over the past years, but in these games, I represent my country in 100m event. So, shifting from sport discipline to another had no any negative effect on me, right now I’m looking to fight tooth and nail to break my personal record." She added.
