Team Qatar athletes aim for medals at Tokyo Olympics
Tokyo: After a one-year delay, the 2020 Summer Olympic Games will get underway in Tokyo, Japan on Friday.
The beach volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan had their training session at the Shiokaze Park ahead of their opening match against Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland on Sunday.
The training session was attended by the Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain and the Qatar Volleyball Association Board Member Mohamed Salem Al Kuwari.
On the other hand, Tala Abujbara was hard at work preparing for the heats in the women's sculls scheduled at Sea Forest Waterway.
Qatar's Mohamed Al Rumaihi trained at Asaka Shooting Range. The trap shooter will begin his campaign at Tokyo Olympics on July 28.
Team Qatar athletes gear up for Tokyo Olympics
Tokyo- With only two days to go for Tokyo 2020 Olympics to get underway, Team Qatar athletes have stepped up their preparations the games to be held Tokyo, Japan between July 23 and August 8.
Qatar’s volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan had their second practice session in Tokyo yesterday.
Mohamed Salem Al Kuwari, Administrator of Qatar's beach volleyball team stressed that he confident of team Qatar's ability to qualify for upcoming rounds and do their nation proud despite of their tough draw which placed them in Pool C where they will take on Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland in their first match on July 25.
Pool C also includes Jacob Gibb and Taylor Crabb of the United States in addition to Adrian Carambula and Enrico Rossi of Italy.
On the other hand, Qatar’s judoka Ayoub El-Idrissi who arrived in Tokyo on Monday, began his training sessions for the games yesterday.
El-Idrissi will kick start his campaign in Men's 66kg event on Sunday.
A total of 15 athletes will proudly represent Qatar in 7 sports at Tokyo 2020 Olympics as Team Qatar will compete in a total of 7 Sports and 6 Track and Field disciplines.
Team Qatar roster in Tokyo 2020 Olympics includes; Mutaz Barshim, Abderrahman Samba, Abubaker Hayder, Abdirahman Saeed Hassan, Musab Adam, Femi Ogunode, Ashraf Amgad El-Seify (Athletics), Mohamed Al Rumaihi (Shooting), Fares Ibrahim (Weightlifting), Cherif Younouse, Ahmed Tijan (Beach Volleyball), Ayoub Al Idrisi (Judo) and Abdulaziz Al Obaidly (Swimming).
The Qatari women will be represented by Bashayer Almanwari in 100m event and Tala Abu-Jubara, the first Qatari female athlete to represent Qatar in rowing at the Olympic Games.
QOC completes vaccination program for international atheletes ahead of Tokyo 2020 Olympics
DOHA-The Qatar Olympic Committee has completed its vaccination program for athletes who were unable to be vaccinated in their home countries in advance of travelling to Japan for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
After a group of countries joined this great initiative, the QOC agreed jointly with the IOC, Pfizer-BioNTech and Qatar Airways to provide vaccinations
To this end, last week, the QOC completed all vaccine doses for participants of the countries who joined the initiative. Participants arrived at Hamad International Airport and stayed at Doha’s training camp. The QOC provided all necessary measures required for the athletes and delegations in cooperation with Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Public Health and Hamad International Airport.
The QOC is proud to cooperate with the IOC in pushing the Olympic Movement forward amid this COVID-19 and supporting the Tokyo 2020 organizers to host a safe and successful Games.
Ayoub El-Idrissi arrives in Tokyo
Tokyo-Qatar’s judoka Ayoub El-Idrissi arrived in Tokyo on Monday to participate in Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which will be held in Japan between July 23 and August 8.
Ayoub Al Idrissi secured his spot at the Olympics well after collecting 699 points thanks to his impressive run in 2020 and 2021, especially in the recent Grand Slam tournaments in Georgia, Turkey and Russia, and the World Championships in Hungary in last June.
For his part, Qatar's shooter Mohammed Al Rumaihi has underlined his readiness to battle for top honors at the Olympic Games.
The trap shooter will begin his campaign at Tokyo Olympics on July 28 with qualifications while finals will be staged on July 29.
Al Rumaihi had won an Olympic quota place at the 2019 Asian Championships in Doha.
Rower Tala Abujbara, who arrived on Saturday, have continued her finals preparations for the games for the second day.
After their arrival in Tokyo on Sunday, Qatar's volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan had their first practice session in Tokyo on Monday.
The preliminary rounds of beach volleyball event will begin next Saturday while the finals will be held on August 07.

QOC Secretary General visits Team Qatar accommodation at Olympic Village
TOKYO, Japan – The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Secretary General H.E Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain visited Team Qatar accommodation at the Olympic Village of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games on Sunday.
Al Buenain has appreciated the administrative delegation’s efforts in providing safe environment for Team Qatar athletes at this global sports event.
On the other hand, Qatar's beach volleyball team arrived in Tokyo, Japan on Sunday to participate in the 2020 Olympics to be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
The delegation is headed by President of Qatar Volleyball Association Ali bin Ghanem Al Kuwari.
Qatar’s Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan were drawn in Pool C and will take on World No 5 Jacob Gibb and Taylor Crabb of the United States, World No 18 Adrian Carambula and Enrico Rossi of Italy and World No 19 Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland.
The Qatari duo will begin their campaign in the Olympics on July 25 with a match against Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland.
Qatar’s rower Tala Abujbara began her training sessions in Japan in preparation for her campaign at Tokyo Olympics.
Tala Abujbara has secured her spot in Tokyo Olympics after clocking a time of 8:20 minutes at Asia and Oceania Rowing Qualification Championship in Kuwait.
Tala claimed the gold medal of the 2016 GCC Rowing Championships in Doha and the bronze medal of the 2017 Arab Rowing Championships in Tunisia.
Ahmed Yousef Al Darwish, Team Qatar's Deputy Chef de Mission stressed that administrative delegation will leave no stone unturned to help the Qatari athletes perform to their full potentials and do our nation proud.

Qatar Beat Grenada 4-0 at CONCACAF Gold Cup
Houston-Qatar sealed its first-ever Gold Cup victory with a resounding 4-0 result over Grenada during the second matchday in Group D at the BBVA Stadium.
The defending AFC Asian Cup champions took the lead in the 11th minute as Abdelaziz Hatem had a right-footed finish in the opening goal of the encounter. Left-back Abdelkarim Hassan assisted the play with a cross into the box that ended in Hatem getting past Grenada goalkeeper Jason Belfon.
From that point on, it was straightforward for Qatar. Forward Akram Afif scored his second goal of the tournament with a spectacular curler from outside the box in the 22nd minute of play.
Mohammed Muntari scored Qatars third goal in the 36th minute with a header at the near post during a corner kick opportunity.
Almoez Ali would get involved with the scoring after the halftime break to extend the lead for the tournament guests to 4-0. The play came from a right-wing cross across the box from right-back Pedro Miguel. Ali came close to scoring again in the 58th minute but was denied by Grenadian defender Aaron Pierre.
Grenada goalkeeper Jason Belfon came up with one of his 17 saves on the day in the 64th minute to deny Afif from getting a brace.
Miguel nearly had another assist on the day as he once again delivered a dangerous ball across goal. Abdullah Al-Ahrak connected with a powerful shot but was denied by the post in the 82nd minute.
Miguel nearly got a goal of his own just seconds later, but his attempt went just wide of the goal.
With the win, Qatar improved to four points heading into their final group match against Honduras. Grenada will depart Houston for Orlando and look for their first Gold Cup win or draw against Panama. (QNA)
