Al Rumaihi, Abujbara arrive in Tokyo
Tokyo-Qatar's Mohamed Al Rumaihi and Tala Abujbara arrived in Tokyo, Japan yesterday to participate in Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games to be staged from July 23 to August 8.
Al Rumaihi will participate in men's trap event while Tala Abujbara will represent Qatar in women's single sculls event.
Furthermore, Qatar's beach volleyball duo of Ahmed Tijan and Cherif Younousse will arrive in Tokyo today ahead of their participation in the games.
A total of 15 athletes will represent Qatar in seven sports at Tokyo 2020 Olympics as Qatar will compete in seven sports and 6 track and field disciplines.
Team Qatar's Chef de Mission for Tokyo 2020 Olympics Mohammed Saeed Al Misnad thanked the organizing committee of games for their cooperation with all the Participating delegations and wished all success for Team Qatar athletes.
"We are keen to provide our teams and athletes with all possible means of support during their participation in the games. The pre-coordination between Qatar's administrative delegation and the organizing committee of Tokyo 2020 Olympics began a long time ago to ensure the safety of participating athletes, especially in light of the current circumstances as a result of Covid-19 pandemic" said Mohammed Al Misnad.
Team Qatar athletes line up for Tokyo Olympics
Tokyo- The Qatari athletics delegation has arrived in the Japanese city of Takasaki, in preparation for the Olympic challenge "Tokyo 2020", which start on 23rd of this month, and as soon as the delegation of the of Qatar Athletics Athletes arrives in the city Taka Saki, who welcomed our athletes with all the warmth and welcome, our players started their training , which will last for two weeks, and then move to Tokyo to compete in Games competitions from the 30th of this month until eight of coming August
The Qatari athletics delegation was well received in Takasaki, led by the mayor of the city, Kenji Tomoyoka, who welcomed the establishment of our team’s camp in the city. The mayor of the city deserved the praise he received from Dr. Thani Al Kuwari, President of the Qatar Athletics Federation, who met Tomoyoka at the residence of our athletics delegation in the presence of the administrative delegation. He appreciated the facilities provided by the city for the establishment of a strong camp in the city of Takasaki, which is three hours away from Tokyo.
The training of our players witnessed great enthusiasm and readiness to participate in the Olympics after they went through a period of preparation during the past days in different camps according to each competition and according to the training programs that were developed by the technical staff, while the Takasaki camp will be the last stage of preparation and final preparation before moving on. And Al Adaam in Tokyo 2020 Olympics includes Mutaz Barshim in the high jump, Femi Ugandi in the 100 and 200 meters sprints, AbdulRahman Samba 400 meters hurdles, Ashraf Al Saifi in the hammer throw, Musab Adam and Abdul Rahman Saeed in the middle distance 1500 meters, Abu Bakr Haider In the 800m and Beshayer AlMonwari 100 m .
Team Qatar drawn in Pool A of Asian Volleyball Championships
Bangkok, Thailand-Qatar's national volleyball team was drawn in Pool A of the 21st Men's Asian Championship to be held in Chiba, Japan from September 12 to 19, 2021.
Pool A also includes Japan, India and Bahrain while Iran, Pakistan, Thailand and Hong Kong China are in Pool B.
Pool C brings together Australia, China, Sri Lanka and Kuwait, with Korea, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia in Pool D.
Team Qatar duo qualify to FIVB U21 Beach Volleyball Championships
Bangkok -Qatar's Abdullah Naseem and Abdullah Samir qualified to FIVB U21 Beach Volleyball Championships to be held in Roi Et, Thailand from September 24 to 29, 2021.
The Qatari duo claimed the fifth place at the ongoing Asian U21 Beach Volleyball Championships which serve as the qualification tournament for the FIVB U21 Beach Volleyball Championships with top five teams (federations) excluding Thailand in each gender progressing.
On the other hand, Qatar's Mubarak al-Kuwari and Mohammed Al-Sharshni will participate in the preliminary rounds of the 2021 FIVB U19 Beach Volleyball World Championships to be staged in Thailand.
Team Qatar stars eye glory at Tokyo Olympic Games
Doha-Qatar will participate in the 32nd Summer Olympic Games 2020 to be held in the Japanese capital of Tokyo from July 23 to August 8.
A total of 15 athletes will represent Qatar in seven sports at Tokyo 2020 Olympics as Team Qatar will compete in a total of seven sports and 6 track and field disciplines.
Here are profiles of some Qatar’s top stars who will be aiming to return with medals.
Mohamed al-Rumaihi
Trap shooter Mohamed al-Rumaihi has represented Qatar in a number of world and Asian events. Al-Rumaihi booked a quota spot at the Olympics during the 14th Asian Shooting Championships at the Lusail Shooting Complex.
Fares Ibrahim Hassouna
Qatar’s Fares Ibrahim Hassouna earned his ticket to Tokyo 2020 Olympics when he bagged two gold medals at 2019 Qatar International Cup Weightlifting Championships. Fares also participated in Rio 2016 Olympics but his first international appearance with Team Qatar was in 2014 edition of Qatar International Cup Weightlifting Championships.
Abdulaziz Hassan al-Obaidly
Team Qatar swimmer Abdulaziz Hassan al-Obaidly will participate in 200m breaststroke event in Tokyo Olympics. Al-Obaidly sparkled at 2018 Asian Games and 2018 World Championships and claimed a huge number of gold medals on GCC level.
It is worth mentioning that team Qatar swimmer Nada Mohamed Wafa was the first Qatari women to participate in Olympic Games when she competed in 50m Freestyle event at 2012 London Olympics.
Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan
The Qatar beach volleyball team consisting of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games following the newly-announced rankings by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). In a statement, the FIVB said that 13 teams have guaranteed direct qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games after the end of the last three Olympic qualifying rounds in Mexico.
Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan claimed their first gold medal in FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 4-star events in Cancun. They also participated in Rio 2016 Olympics.
Tala Abujbara
Team Qatar rower Tala Abujbara qualified for Tokyo Games after clocking a time of 8.20 minutes in the 2,000m race during the Asia and Oceania Rowing Qualification Championships held in Kuwait. Tala had previously won the gold medal at the second Arab Championships in Indoor Rowing, which was hosted by Kuwait in 2018. She also claimed the bronze medal of 2017 Arab Championships held in Tunisia.
Ayoub El Idrissi
Judo star Ayoub El Idrissi qualified for the Olympics after collecting 699 points thanks to the good results he obtained during his participation in international tournaments in 2020 and 2021, especially in the recent Grand Slam tournaments in Georgia, Turkey and Russia, and the World Championships, which was held in Hungary in last June.
El Idrissi claimed the gold medal of 2019 Arab Championships in Morocco and the 5th place of 2019 Asian Championships in Uzbekistan.
The Olympic Refugee Team Training Camp in Doha Concluded
DOHA-Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani today met with the Refugee Olympic Team (EOR) during their training camp at the world-class Aspire Zone in Doha and reinforced the QOC’s commitment to supporting refugees.
The 29 members of the EOR who will be competing across 12 sports at Tokyo 2020 arrived in Doha on 11 and 12 July. The world-class Hamad International Airport (HIA) received the EOR and provided a dedicated counter for the team. Training sessions at the state-of-the-art Aspire Dome were held yesterday and today. In between training, the athletes took part in Tokyo 2020 workshops with IOC officials.
QOC President HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani said:
“We are honoured to have the opportunity to make a small contribution to the inspiring journey of the Refugee Olympic Team. We know how hard they have worked to be able to compete at the Olympic Games and we hope that this training camp at the state-of-the-art Aspire will help them to compete at their best in Tokyo.
“The team’s performances will not just inspire billions of people but will also raise awareness about the scale of the global refugee crisis. At the Qatar Olympic Committee we are passionate about ensuring that refugees and displaced people have access to sport. We believe strongly in the role sport can play in empowering people and bringing hope at times of great hardship. Through our work with the Olympic Refuge Foundation we will continue to support refugees in any way we can.”
The QOC is a founding partner of the Olympic Refuge Foundation (ORF) and QOC President HE Sheikh Joaan is a member of the ORF Board. The ORF aims to create safe, basic and accessible sports facilities in areas where there are refugees, a displaced migrant population or internally displaced people, where all children and young people can play sport and take advantage of sport’s multiple benefits.
Mr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, CEO of Aspire Zone Foundation, which hosted the training sessions of the EOR team:
“We were pleased to host the Refugee Olympic Team (EOR) in Aspire Zone, and we harnessed all possibilities and means of technical and administrative support to benefit from all our training facilities equipped for several different sports, and it is a great honour for the Qatar Olympic Committee to choose Aspire Zone to host the training camp. In addition, Aspire Zone Foundation is always keen to provide outstanding services to local and international teams, by providing all their needs up to the highest standards by the convergence of training, accommodation, and entertainment facilities.
The QOC Secretary General HE Jassim Rashid al-Buenain thanked ministries and governmental and private entities for their cooperation with the QOC and their contribution to the success of Refugee Olympic Team training camp. In this regard, al-Buenain lauded the efforts made by Ministry of Interior, Supreme Committee for Crisis Management, Hamad International Airport, Qatar Airways and Aspire Zone to help the QOC organize this training camp.
