QOC to mark National Sport Day
Doha, February 10, 2020-The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) will celebrate the 9th edition of National Sport Day on Tuesday in cooperation with Msheireb Properties.The QOC along with various national sports federations will mark the day by offering members of the local community a wide-ranging program of sports activities and demonstrations at Team Qatar Sports Village in Barahat Msheireb.On this occasion, HE Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary-General of the QOC, said “This year is an Olympic year, which makes National Sports Day 2020 an even more significant day! The events and activities we have planned with the valuable help of national sportfederations and stakeholders, will give our community the opportunity to try new sports and enjoy engaging workshops. There will be an opportunity to meet with some of Team Qatar's star athletes. It is our hope that these world-class athletes will encourage young people to be physically active, and perhaps even inspire the future generation of Qatari athletes. "“Qatar recognises the importance of sports, and it is a key goal of ours to encourage people to stay fit and active, not only on National Sports Day, but all year long. Qatar is one of the first countries in the world to have a paid national holiday which is dedicated solely to sports and exercise, which reflects both the forward-thinking leadership of Qatar's sports leaders, and the fact that sport is an important pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030." He added.For his part, Ali Al Kuwari, Acting CEO of Msheireb Properties, said "We are delighted to cooperate with the Qatar Olympic Committee as it's the first time for Barahat Msheireb to host such a huge public event in celebration of National Sport Day"The event will feature a diverse range of sports catering for all ages, including: athletics, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, taekwondo, karate and judo. Throughout the day there will also be live sports workshops featuring gymnastics and martial arts, as well as on-stage entertainment from football freestylers and sport jugglers.One of the QOC's primary aims for the National Sport Day is to promote a healthy community both physically and psychologically by educating the community on the many benefits of participating in sports.
QOC General Assembly held
Doha, February 10, 2020-The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) held its 35th General Assembly yesterday under the leadership of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani.The meeting was attended by the QOC Second Vice President HE Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari and the QOC Secretary General HE Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Presidents of National Sports Federations, and Chairpersons of the committees affiliated to the QOC.HE Sheikh Joaan thanked the National Sports Federations for their efforts over the past year and urged them to continue supporting team Qatar in their preparations for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.The meeting began with approving the minutes of the previous general assembly meeting held in December 2018 and discussed a number of topics tabled on the agenda.The General Assembly also reviewed the results of team Qatar at 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships and 2019 ANOC World Beach Games as well as Team Qatar's preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the third GCC Games – Kuwait 2020 and the 2020 Asian Beach Games.
Team Qatar progress in FIVB world ranking
DOHA, February 6 , 2020 – The Qatar's national volleyball have moved to the 23rd place in the FIVB world ranking issued recently.With this new ranking , team Qatar have excelled over a number of heavyweight volleyball teams , like Turkey, China, Finland, Spain and China Taipei.At the Arab teams ranking, team Qatar claimed the third place overall behind Egypt and Tunisia
QOC to organize multiple events on National Sports Day
DOHA, February 6, 2020- The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) in partnership with Msheireb Properties will be celebrating the 9th edition of National Sports Day (NSD) on Tuesday.The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has arranged a well-equipped Sport Village at Barahat Msheireb for the occasion , will open its gates earlier from 8 AM to 8 PM for all age groups to participate in multiple activities and competitions , including athletics, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, taekwondo , karate and Judo. Also a number of team Qatar stars are due to honor the prestigious event.The NSD's program will also include “ fun run race" will be organized amid participation from senior officials. Sport workshops on gymnastics, marital Arts, along with sessions for female, freestyle football and entertainment games are also scheduled for the NSD's events.A number of team Qatar champions, headed by the world and Olympic high jump champion, Mutaz Essa Barshim shall take part in the National Sports Day's events.The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) is celebrating the National Sports Day under the theme of (Sport For Life) to promote sports, physical education and sustainable development across the country.
Draw held for Asian Men's Youth Beach Handball Championship
Kuwait, February 5, 2020- The draw of Asian Men's Youth Beach Handball Championship 2020 was held in Kuwait on Tuesday. Team Qatar were pooled in Group (A) alongside Chinese Taipei, Pakistan and Korea while Group (A) includes Thailand, Iran, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. The Championship will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from April 1-10, 2020.
1000 Students participate SOP Paralympic Day
DOHA, February 5, 2020 – The Organizing Committee of the 13th edition of the School Olympic Program (SOP) organized the Paralympic Day for children with special needs at Suhaim bin Hamad stadium of Qatar Sport Club on Tuesday.The event which was organised by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and the SOP Organizing Committee, featured the participation of 1000 students representing a huge number of schools and institutions for people with special needs. The Paralympic Day was attended by the QOC Second Vice President Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, the QOC Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Under Secretary of Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Al Nuaimi, President of the Qatar School Sport Federation Rabea Al Kaabi and Chairman of SOP Higher Organizing Committee Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani. The QOC Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain hailed the wide participation of schools at the Paralympic Day. "The event aims at providing the children a chance to show their abilities and potentials, with a possibility of joining the national team in the future, and at increasing involvement of the families. It is also aims at encouraging centers, independent schools and schools of special education to participate in the program." He said.
