Team Qatar win Asian Handball Championship
Kuwait, January 28, 2020- Qatar handball team defeated their South Korean counterparts 33-21 to win the 19th Asian Championship in Kuwait, their fourth title in a row.Yesterday win in the final further stamped Qatar dominance in the region as it was their fourth successive Asian title having earlier won in 2014, 2016 and 2018.South Korea are the record winners of the continental event, having won it nine times, but their last success was in 2012.It is the Qataris who have established themselves as the dominant Asian force since then, besides winning the Asian title thrice and reaching the World Championship final on home soil in 2015.Qatar meant business right from the kick off and had no trouble in taking a firm grip over the proceedings.They started on a flourish and went into the half time break with the scores leading 14-11.In the second half, Qatar stepped up the pace and widen the gap and wrapped up the proceedings in an emphatic fashion registering a facile win.This is the second defeat South Korea suffered at the hands of Qatar at the Championship in Kuwait.The winners of the last three editions saw off the last bronze medallists 37-24 in the group match.Bahrain, who lost to Qatar in the semi-final, have been runners-up at four out of the last five Asian Championships, including all of the last three behind Qatar.Besides the finalists, the other two losing semi-finalists also qualified for the 2021 World Men's Handball Championship to be held in Egypt.
Qatar to take on South Korea in Asian men’s handball final
Kuwait, January 27, 2020-Three-time champions Qatar will take on South Korea in the final match of Asian Men's Handball Championships in Kuwait on Monday. In the semifinals held on Saturday, Qatar defeated Bahrain 28-24 (HT 14-11) to set a final showdown with South Korea, who edged Japan 34-32 in extra time (5-3) after the scores were locked 29-all at full time.Qatar are seeking a fourth Asian title, having won the championship in 2014, 2016 and 2018.Qatar have been champions at the Asian Games in 2014 and 2018. They were runners-up at the World Championships in 2015.
Sergey Bida wins Qatar Fencing Grand Prix 2020
Doha, January 27, 2020- Russia's Sergey Bida claimed the title of Qatar Fencing Grand Prix 2020 organized by the Qatar Weightlifting and Fencing Federation at Aspire Dome. The final day of the tournament was attended by HE the QOC Secretary General Jassim bin Rashed Al Buenain, Director of the QOC Sport Affairs Department Khaleel Al Jabir and President of the Qatar Weightlifting and Fencing Federation Mohammad Yousef Al Mana. In men's final, Russia's Sergey Bida fought off his opponent, Alexandre Bardenet of France, in order to get his hands on a gold medal. Italy's Andrea Santarelli and Japan's Masaru Yamada claimed the bronze medals. Ana Maria Popescu of Romania took gold medal in the women's final after defeating Italy's Mara Navarria. The three-day event brought together 494 male and female fencers from 45 nations. The final day saw Olympic hopefuls compete from the Round of 64 through to the Final, hoping to gain enough points to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The Fencing Grand Prix will continue in Budapest, Hungary on the 6th of March before continuing on to Cali, Colombia in May, giving athletes two more opportunities to secure their ticket to Tokyo.
Qatar Fencing Grand Prix to conclude on Sunday
DOHA, January 26, 2020- The 2020 edition of Qatar Fencing Grand Prix organized by the Qatar Fencing Federation at Aspire Dome will be concluded on Sunday. This year's edition brings together 494 male and female fencers from 45 nations.The preliminary rounds of women's event were held on Saturday with participation of 160 players including five Qatari players. Qatar's Wadha Al Abdullah, Sarah Zeyab, Yara Al Batadini and Zekrayat Al Abdullah were unable to reach the round of 64. The round of 64 will begin on Sunday, where first seed Sergey Bida of Russia will begin his campaign by facing Zsombor Banyai of Hungary while Andrea Antarelli of Italy will take on Conrad Seibaek Kongstad of Denmark in Men's event. In Women's event, Ana Maria of Romania will shake hands with Camille Nabeth of France while Sheng Lin of China will take on Erika Kirpu of Estonia. Doha Fencing Grand Prix is a mega event on the sporting calendar in the country and it draws lovers of this sport in great numbers.Doha is the first of three Grand Prix of the series before Budapest (Hungary) and Cali (Colombia) and it is widely considered to be one of the top three tournaments in the world.

Group A includes Bahrain, Iran and New Zealand while Group C comprises South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Australia. Hosts Kuwait, UAE, Hong Kong and Iraq form Group D.After the preliminary stage in Kuwait, top two teams from each group – divided into two groups – will feature in the main round before the event advances to the semi-finals
