2020 Qatar Fencing Grand Prix gets underway
DOHA, January 25, 2020- The 2020 edition of
Qatar Fencing Grand Prix organized by the Qatar Fencing Federation began at
Aspire Dome on Friday.To conclude on Sunday, this year's edition
brings together 494 male and female fencers from 45 nations. Qatar's Adam Zaki, Abdullah Sayyari, Mohammed
Al Shammari and Jaber Al Faddaq failed to make it to the round of 46. Women's competitions will begin on Saturday
where Wadha Al Abdullah, Sarah Zeyab, Yara Al Batadini and Zekrayat Al Abdullah
will represent Qatar in Women's event. Doha Fencing Grand Prix is a mega event on the
sporting calendar in the country and it draws lovers of this sport in great numbers.
Doha is the first of three Grand Prix of the
series before Budapest (Hungary) and Cali (Colombia) and it is widely
considered to be one of the top three tournaments in the world.
Qatar hosting credentials continue to go from strength to strength
Doha, Qatar; 24/01/20: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) today published its latest major sports and events calendar for 2020 demonstrating that the 2022 FIFA World Cup host nation's status as a world sporting power continues to rise.Qatar is set to host 65 local, continental and international sporting events this year. This is eight more than the country hosted in a highly successful 2019, which included the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships. The 2020 calendar is headlined by the opening event of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Basketball World Tour 2020 (2-3 April) and the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Swimming World Cup (8-10 October).There will be a total of 37 international events on the calendar in 2020, with the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Fencing Grand Prix (24-26 January) the next major event to head to Qatar. The Grand Prix, organised by the Qatar Fencing Federation at the Aspire Academy, will enable athletes to gain qualification points for Tokyo 2020. Earlier this month Qatar welcomed men's tennis stars for the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, which is an ATP World Tour 250 series event.HE Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary-General of the QOC, said: “We are excited and proud to be able to continue hosting a wide variety of sporting events in Qatar throughout 2020. It shows the success of the various national sport federations in Qatar, and how the Qatari sports community clearly share the same values and ambition. It is an honour for us to host these events, and we are delighted to welcome the global sports community to witness the world's finest athletes compete at our magnificent sports facilities."In February, Doha will host the opening of the 2020 FINA Marathon Swim World Series, with the event taking place on 15 February in the Katara Cultural District. The country will also welcome the stars of women's tennis for the Qatar Total Open from 23-29 February at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. February will also see amateur golf and International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) tour events head to Qatar.The highlight of March is the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Artistic Gymnastics World Cup (18-21 March), with junior squash and tennis events also heading to Qatar. April will see the IAAF Diamond League Athletics Championship head to Qatar, and in May Qatar will host the Judo World Masters 2020 (28-30 May) at Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya in Al Sadd. The ITTF World Singles Table Tennis Qualification Event (28-31 May) will then mark the end of a busy month.There will be Davis Cup tennis action in June before a quieter July and August as the Olympic Movement heads to Tokyo for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. In October, Qatar will host two International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour events at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) International Show Jumping Championship will be organised by the Qatar Equestrian Federation from 14-16 November, before Qatar's 2020 international sporting events end with the Qatar International Weightlifting Cup (19-24 December).Qatar will also host a number of high-profile continental events in 2020, including the Asian Rugby Sevens Tour. Nationally, the 2020 calendar is headlined by the Qatar National Sport Day on 11 February, HH the Emir's Basketball Cup Final on 9 May, HH the Emir's Football Cup Final on 15 May, and Sport Excellence Day in November. Aspire is proud to host this big event and partake in what is international sporting competition serving as a qualifier for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.Doha is the first of three Grand Prix of the series before Budapest (Hungary) and Cali (Colombia) and it is widely considered to be one of the top three tournaments in the world. Team Qatar to participate in Arab Juniors Boxing Championship
DOHA, January 23, 2020 – Team Qatar all set to participate in the first Arab Juniors Boxing Championship 2020 will take place from 23-29 January in Kuwait.Team Qatar is represented by Mohammed Salem Al Ezba who will compete in over 80kg event , while his teammate Abdurrahman Nasser Al Fadalla will compete in 48kg event.The prestigious event will bring almost 90 boxers representing 12 Arab countries, including Qatar, Tunisia, Morocco, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Syria, Palestine and hosts Kuwait.
Aspire Academy hosts SOP Football Competitions
DOHA, January 23, 2020-The football competitions for boys' primary schools at the 13th edition of the Schools Olympic Program (SOP) were resumed at Aspire Academy on Wednesday. In the first group, Doha Academy led the standings with four points while Palestinian School led the second group.Cambridge International School defeated Stafford School 2-1 to lead the third group while Pakistani International School took the first place in the fourth group following their consecutive victories over Tunisian School and Future Generation School. MES School defeated Doha Academy 4-1 to lead the fifth group while Ayla International School edged past Royal Crown School 5-0. The SOP is held annually as a collaborative effort of to encourage hundreds of students athletes competing from all over Qatar.The SOP Committee aims to spread a culture of sports through Qatar's schools and to engage the entire community in active and healthy lifestyles while retaining local values and traditions.
Qatar to face hosts Kuwait in Asian Men’s Handball Championship
KUWAIT , January 23 , 2020 - Holders Qatar's handball team will shake hands with Kuwaiti counterparts in the conclusion of the main round of 19th Asian Men's Handball Championship in Kuwait on Thursday.Team Qatar have already booked their place in 2021 World Championship in Egypt, following a comfortable 31-25 victory over Iran on Tuesday.Qatar are pooled in Group B of this year's Asian Championship alongside Japan and China. Group A includes Bahrain, Iran and New Zealand while Group C comprises South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Australia. Hosts Kuwait, UAE, Hong Kong and Iraq form Group D.After the preliminary stage in Kuwait, top two teams from each group – divided into two groups – will feature in the main round before the event advances to the semi-finals.
