Team Qatar ready for U-20 Arab Cup
RIYADH, January 22, 2020 - A 16-team U-20 Arab Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia next month, it was announced on Monday.The event, to be organized by Arab Football Federation (AFF) and Leadership Development Institute, will be played in three cities – Riyadh, Dammam and Khobar. Hosts Saudi Arabia will be joined by Qatar, Morocco, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Tunisia, Sudan, Egypt, Palestine, Algeria, Mauritania, Libya, Comoros, Iraq and Djibouti.The tournament will be held from Feb 17 to Mar 5. The draw ceremony, which was held in the presence of the Vice President of AFF, Prof. Mohamed Rouraoua and the Deputy Director General of the Leadership Development Institute, Prof Hashem Daghistani, resulted in the following four groups:Group A: Iraq, Tunisia, Mauritania and Kuwait, Group B: Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar and Djibouti, Group C: Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Algeria and Egypt, Group D: Sudan, Libya, UAE and the Comoros IslandsPrince Saud bin Jalawi Sports City Stadium, will host the first match of the championship on Feb 17. The group stage matches will end on Feb 24.The quarterfinals will be played on Feb 27 and 28 while last-four fixtures will be held on Mar 2 and 3.
Al Adaam qualify for IHF 2021 World Championship in Egypt
KUWAIT , January 22 , 2020 -Defending champions Qatar's handball team made impressive performance to beat Iran and booked place in 2021 World Championship to be held in Egypt.Al Adaam booked spot in the global handball event in Egypt , following their comfortable 31-25 victory over Iran in the main round of 19th Asian Men's Handball Championship 2020 in Kuwait on Tuesday.Qatar are pooled in Group B of this year's Asian Championship alongside Japan and China. Group A includes Bahrain, Iran and New Zealand while Group C comprises South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Australia. Hosts Kuwait, UAE, Hong Kong and Iraq form Group D.After the preliminary stage in Kuwait, top two teams from each group – divided into two groups – will feature in the main round before the event advances to the semi-finals.
Students sparkle in SOP football competitions
DOHA, January 21, 2020 – Students from different learning stages have displayed impressive football skills during the game competitions in the Schools Olympic Program (SOP) took place at Aspire Academy playgrounds on Monday.In the primary schools' football competitions, International Researchers School defeated Royal International 3-0 in group A, while in group B, Al Noor School beat Al Faisal Academy 2-0.On the same track of victory, Newton Academy outclassed Al Zeitouna International 4-2 and continued winning streak to defeat Bhavan Public 2-1.Al Manar International School topped its respective group, following their 4-0 victory over Spectra school, while Cambridge International defeated Palestinian counterparts 4-0.The SOP is held annually as a collaborative effort of to encourage hundreds of students athletes competing from all over Qatar.The SOP Committee aims to spread a culture of sports through Qatar's schools and to engage the entire community in active and healthy lifestyles while retaining local values and traditions.
Qatar defeat South Korea in Asian Championship
Kuwait, January 21, 2020- Qatar defeated South Korea 34-27 in the main round of the 2020 Asian Men's Handball Championship in Kuwait on Monday. The Asian championship, which concludes on January 27, is also a qualifying meet for the World Championships that will take place in Egypt in 2021.Qatar reached the main rounds of the event after topping their group in the preliminary round in Kuwait, marking commanding victories over China (49-18) and Japan (36-28).The 8 teams that qualified to the main round were divided into two groups where Group A includes Bahrain, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, while Qatar and South Korea are in Group B along with Kuwait and Iran.Eyeing a place in the semi-finals and in 2021 World Championship, defending champions Qatar will take on Iran in their second match in the main round on Tuesday.

Doha ready to host 2020 Qatar Fencing Grand Prix
DOHA, January 20, 2020 - Doha is set host the expanded and bigger 2020 Qatar Fencing Grand Prix as the fruitful relationship and partnership with Qatar Fencing Federation burgeons further as a record number of top world fencers descend on Qatar for competition, which will run over three days, 24- 26 January 2020, in Aspire Dome.Mr Ali Salem Afifa, Aspire Academy Deputy Director General, welcomed the Qatar Fencing Federation delegation led by the Secretary General Khalid Issa al-Hamadi before the two organisations signed an agreement to extend the partnership. Afifa relayed how the working relationship between Aspire Academy and Qatar Fencing Federation grows with each year. “Doha Fencing Grand Prix is a mega event on the sporting calendar in our country and it draws lovers of this sport in great numbers. Aspire is proud to host this big event and partake in what is international sporting competition serving as a qualifier for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games."Al-Hammadi went on to say, “The 2020 Doha Grand Prix brings to our country the biggest championship organised by the Qatar Fencing Federation. Doha is the first of three Grand Prix of the series before Budapest (Hungary) and Cali (Colombia) and it is widely considered to be one of the top three tournaments in the world. This year we have the highest number of fencers ever with a total of 350 male and female fencers coming to compete at Aspire and looking to get points that help towards qualification for Tokyo Olympic Games.
