Momen captures QSF 3 title
Doha: Top seed Tarek Momen lifted the QSF 3 title after overcoming Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng in four games at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha, Qatar.
The win sees Momen capture his 10th PSA World Tour title and his first since August’s Windsor Cup.
The 36-year-old secured an 11-6, 11-4, 5-11, 11-5 win in 50 minutes to win the PSA World Tour Bronze event.
Momen had earlier knocked out Qatari No.1 Abdulla Al-Tamimi in the semi-finals, with wins against India’s Velavan Senthilkumar and Aly Hussein earlier in the event.
It was a composed performance from the World No.8 to go 2-0 up against Eain Yow and, despite dropping the third game, he held his nerve to seal the fourth and the title.
QOA training course on sports press concludes
DOHA – A five - day training course titled “ role of sports press” organized by the Qatar Olympic Academy (QOA) was successfully concluded at the QOA Headquarters on Thursday.
Manager of News Output at BeiN Media Group and course key speaker, Mr. Ali Almslmani, delivered a series of lectures that shed lights on the vital role of sports press for individuals and organizations.
Mr. Almslmani has confirmed that social media platforms and influencers are playing a center stage role in promoting sports news and marking for several sport events.
The key lecturer, Mr. Almslmani gave a detailed presentation showed that how sports press journalists could carry out TV and Radio interviews with players and coaches and where camera should be positioned during interview.
On the course closing day, Executive Director of the QOA Khalil Ibrahim Al Jaber honored the lecturer and congratulated the trainees, hopefully they will keep better career in the sports press field.
Al Arabi win Qatar Handball Cup
Doha: Al Arabi claimed the Qatar Cup handball title prevailing over Al Duhail 35-34 in a thrilling final played at the Qatar Handball Association courts on Sunday. Al Arabi led 14-10 at half time but Al Duhail fought back to level scores at 26-26 by full-time.
In extra time, Al Duhail again surged ahead at 29-26 with their player Janus Lapajne scoring three consecutive goals. However, efforts from Al Arabi’s Mohammed and Basil Mosa, along with a crucial penalty shot from Anis Zouaoui tied he scores at 29-all, forcing a shootout which again tied at 31.
In sudden death, Zouaoui, Issa, and Ali score for Al Arabi in sudden death while Mohammed missed before Wajdi Snan making the winning strike for a creditable 35-34 victory for Al Arabi.
Team Qatar cruise to quarterfinals of Arab Beach Volleyball Championship
Amman: Qatar’s beach volleyball team qualified to quarterfinals of the Arab Beach Volleyball Championship for Men and Women which is held in Amman, Jordan until May 29.
Team Qatar (1) including Abdullah Naseem and Mohammed Ihab booked their spot in the quarterfinals after beating Lebanon 2-0 on Sunday.
In women’s event, team Qatar (1) defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 then suffered a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Lebanon.
Six nations are taking part in the event, which continues until Wednesday. The field consists of men’s and women’s teams from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Lebanon and hosts Jordan.
HH the Amir Attends His Highness's Football Cup Final
Doha: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani attended the final football match for the "2024 Amir Cup" between the Al Sadd and Qatar SC, which was held at the Education City Stadium on Friday.
HH the Personal Representative of the Amir Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Thani, HE Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa Al-Thani, along with a number of Their Excellencies sheikhs, ministers and senior officials attended the match.
The match was also attended by President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) HE Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, a number of heads of Arab and international sports federations, members of the press and media, and a crowd of football fans.
The match ended with Al Sadd defeating Qatar SC 1/0.
After that, HH the Amir handed the Al Sadd players the cup and gold medals, and handed the Qatar SC players the silver medals. (QNA)
Curtain comes down on QOC Shuttle Challenge 2024
Doha: The competitions of the QOC Shuttle Challenge 2024 were concluded at the indoor hall of Arabi Sports Club on Saturday.
The badminton tournament was held in cooperation with the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation with participation of 288 players.
Pridhav Shyam Gopan claimed the title of boys under 19 years event after beating Reuven Jithu 22-20,25-23 in the final match.
In girls under 19 years event, Prakriti Bharath took the title following her victory over Joylyn Colaco 21-3, 21-5.
Moreover, Adharsh Premkumar teamed up with Pridhav Shyam Gopan to hoist the trophy of boys doubles under 19 years while Prakriti Bharath and Samiha Shetty took the first place in girls doubles under 19 years.
The Tournament Director Abdulaziz Al Ghanim and Deputy Chairman of National Teams Committee at the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation crowned the winners.
