Curtain comes down on QOC Shuttle Challenge 2024
Doha: The competitions of the QOC Shuttle Challenge 2024 were concluded at the indoor hall of Arabi Sports Club on Saturday.
The badminton tournament was held in cooperation with the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation with participation of 288 players.
Pridhav Shyam Gopan claimed the title of boys under 19 years event after beating Reuven Jithu 22-20,25-23 in the final match.
In girls under 19 years event, Prakriti Bharath took the title following her victory over Joylyn Colaco 21-3, 21-5.
Moreover, Adharsh Premkumar teamed up with Pridhav Shyam Gopan to hoist the trophy of boys doubles under 19 years while Prakriti Bharath and Samiha Shetty took the first place in girls doubles under 19 years.
The Tournament Director Abdulaziz Al Ghanim and Deputy Chairman of National Teams Committee at the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation crowned the winners.
HH the Amir Attends His Highness's Football Cup Final
Doha: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani attended the final football match for the "2024 Amir Cup" between the Al Sadd and Qatar SC, which was held at the Education City Stadium on Friday.
HH the Personal Representative of the Amir Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Thani, HE Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa Al-Thani, along with a number of Their Excellencies sheikhs, ministers and senior officials attended the match.
The match was also attended by President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) HE Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, a number of heads of Arab and international sports federations, members of the press and media, and a crowd of football fans.
The match ended with Al Sadd defeating Qatar SC 1/0.
After that, HH the Amir handed the Al Sadd players the cup and gold medals, and handed the Qatar SC players the silver medals. (QNA)
Team Qatar to participate in Arab Beach Volleyball Championship
Amman: Qatar’s beach volleyball team will participate in the Arab Beach Volleyball Championship for Men and Women, which gets underway today in Amman, Jordan.
Team Qatar squad includes; Abdullah Naseem, Mohamed Ihab (Qatar 1), Ahmed Yahya, Tariq Mohammed (Qatar 2), Dalma, Layla Mohammed (Qatar women’s team 1), Shaqaf Ismail and Haya Abu Essa (Qatar’s women’s team 2).
Six nations are taking part in the event, which continues until Wednesday. The field consists of men’s and women’s teams from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Lebanon and hosts Jordan.
Al Tamimi beats Elkabbani to reach PSA tourney quarters
Doha: Qatar’s Abdulla Al Tamimi sailed into the quarter-finals of the QSF 3 squash tournament after a straight-game win in the second round at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha yesterday.
The top-ranked Qatar player, who received a bye in the first round, defeated Egypt’s Ibrahim Elkabbani 11-5, 11-5, 11-9 in the 30 minutes.
Seeded fourth in the PSA World Tour Bronze event, Al Tamimi will next face USA’s Shahjahan Khan in the last eight today.
Unseeded Khan stunned eighth seed Karim El Hammamy of Egypt 11-1, 7-11, 11-8, 11-3 in 46 minutes.
Al Tamimi had won the tournament's three times.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s top seed Tarek Momen also cruised into the last eight stage after an 11-4, 11-6, 11-5 win over compatriot Aly Hussein in 22 minutes yesterday.
Two Indian players Velavan Senthilkumar and Abhay Singh also advanced after winning their respective second round matches.
Al Arabi beat Al Sadd to claim Amir Basketball Cup title
Doha: Al Arabi defeated Al Sadd 88–77 in a well-contested final to win the Amir Basketball Cup title at the Al Gharafa Sports Club court on Thursday.
Al Arabi’s Mustafa Husein Ali Ahmed Rashed was declared MVP of the match for his match-high 27 points, collecting two rebounds and three assists.
Mohamed Hussein scored 19 and Christopher Singleton Jr made 13 points. With the victory Al Arabi, having already clinched the Qatar Cup and Qatar basketball League, completed a hat-trick of titles. Moustafa Fouda and Robert Eugene Jr scored 22 and 16 points respectively for Al Sadd.
First Vice-President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Mohamed Yousef al-Mana crowned the winners. Qatar Basketball Federation president Mohamed Saad al-Mughaiseeb and secretary general Saadoun al-Kuwari were also present during the presentation ceremony.
Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan ready to begin challenge in Espinho Elite16
PORTUGAL : Qatar’s Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan will begin their participation in the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Espinho Elite16 on Thursday, 23 of May in Portugal.
The Qatari duo will lock horns against Ondřej Perušič and David Schweiner of Czech Republic in group B first game.
The Tokyo Olympic bronze medallists reached the quarterfinals of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Brasilia Elite16 concluded recently where they suffered a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Brazil’s George/Andre.
