Top swimming stars confirmed for FINA World Cup Doha
DOHA, November 4, 2019 - Leading swimmers including several Olympic and world champions have confirmed their participation in the FINA Swimming World Cup Doha 2019, scheduled to take place from November 7 to 9 at Hamad Aquatic Centre.The Qatar Swimming Association (QSA) has finalized the list of athletes for the world-class event, which includes a total of 210 athletes – 134 male and 76 female participants – representing 44 countries. In addition, 60 club swimmers will also compete.Australia will send the biggest team consisting of 22 swimmers while Poland will have the second biggest squad comprising 13 athletes.Austria and Chinese Taipei's teams will have 11 swimmers each.QSA President and Organizing Committee Chairman, Khaleel Al Jabir said preparations are in full swing for the meet and added that the QSA will provide the best facilities to all the participants.“QSA is honoured to welcome the world's best swimmers for the FINA Swimming World Cup 2019," said Al Jabir.“The strong participation in the event once again reinforces Doha's status as an elite venue for major swimming events." “One of our main goals when we first hosted the event back in 2012 was to promote swimming in Qatar and in the region as a whole, to inspire new athletes and to introduce new fans to this exciting sport.We thank FINA and its partners for their continued support, which has helped us in achieving our mission," said the QSA President.Swimmers will come to Doha from Kazan, Russia (November 1 to 3) – the sixth stop, which is hosting the first event of the third and final cluster.Multiple gold medalists at 2019 FINA World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju - Cate Campbell (AUS) and Katinka Hosszu (HUN) – will lead the women's field at the Hamad Aquatic Centre, where the winners of cluster 3 and the overall champions will be announced.After the fifth meet in Berlin, Campbell was leading the overall ranking with 243 points, and was followed by the 'Iron Lady' Hosszu with 240 points.
Team Qatar aim high ahead of Arab Judo Championships
Doha, November 01, 2019- The Qatar Judo team will participate in the 2019 Arab Judo Championships to begin in Amman, Jordan on Saturday. The event will bring together 14 countries including; Qatar, Kuwait, Yemen, Iraq, UEA, Bahrain, KSA, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco and hosts Jordan. Qatar's squad: Waleed Aziz Hanafi, Nasser Al Ansi, Morad Zamouri and Salha Al Badi. On the other hand, Qatar' Ali Al Meraikhi, Secretary General of Qatar Judo Federation will attend the General Assembly meeting of Arab Judo Federation to be held on Sunday.
Team Qatar ready for World Para Athletics Championships
Doha, November 01, 2019- The Qatar athletics team for people with special needs will participate in the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 07. The state of Qatar will be represented by 5 athletes including Abdulrahman Abdulqader, Sarah Masoud, Mohammed Al Kubaisi, Khalid Al Hajri and Mohammad Halas. Mohamed Duhaim Al Dosari, Head of Qatar's delegation to the event said that team Qatar will participate in Shot Put, Javelin Throw, Discus Throw and Wheelchair races.
Team Qatar to participate in FINA 2019 World Cup
Doha, November 01, 2019- Qatari swimmers Abdullah Al Khaledi and Kareem Salah will participate in the sixth round of the 2019 FINA Swimming World Cup to begin in Russian city of Kazan on Friday. Al Khaledi and Salah's participation come as part of Qatari swimmers' participation in all the FINA Swimming World Cup rounds.Doha will host the seventh round of the 2019 FINA Swimming World Cup between 7-9 November at Hamad Aquatic Centre.The event, to be held in Doha for the eighth consecutive year, will feature some of the world's best swimmers.
QOC marks World Walking Day 2019
Doha, November 01, 2019- The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) marked the World Walking Day, which is organized annually under the Association For International Sport for All (TAFISA), at the cultural Village Foundation (Katara) on Thursday.Around 400 students from 15 primary and preparatory schools took part in the event, which was attended by HE Secretary General of QOC Jassim Rashid Al Buenain, in addition to a number of veteran athletes and celebrities, including Majid Al Khulaifi, Talal Mansour, Hussain Al Rumaihi, Abdul Aziz Hassan and Yassin Ismail.Marking the World Walking Day is part of QOC's Community Program Plan, which aims to spread the concept of sport for all in addition to highlighting the importance of sports in general and walking in particular.The event started with educational and awareness lectures, at Katara's drama stage, on healthy nutrition, physical activities and rationalization of electricity and water consumption. Afterwards, participants walked for one kilometer to Katara beach.HE QOC Secretary-General said that marking the World Walking Day reflects the Olympic Committee's goals of spreading the concept of sport for all and making sport a daily habit. He extended thanks to all the participants and sponsors of the events.Director of Sports affairs in Qatar Olympic Committee Khalil Al Jaber voiced the QOC's keenness on consolidating the concept of practicing sports in all times and types.Former member of Qatari athletics team Talal Mansour underlined the importance of practicing sports for all age groups.For his part, former Qatar football player Abdulaziz Hassan expressed happiness at partaking in the event and urged the participants to dedicate certain time for walking everyday.
Al Harith makes glory for Qatar at Arab Gymnastics Championship
TUNISIA, October 31, 2019 – Qatar's Youth artistic gymnastic team star, Rakan Al Harith confidently claimed three medals on Wednesday at the prestigious Arab gymnastics Championship taking place from October 25 to November 3 in Tunisia. Al Harith displayed impressive performance in the youth category to open his campaign with gold medal in the rings , followed by silver medal in the pommel horse and added bronze in the floor exercise. More notably, Al Harith won a bronze medal in the pommel horse at the Singapore International Gymnastics Championship in earlier in May .Another elite Qatari gymnasts Raslan Saoud and Ahmed Nabeel are due to begin their campaign in the men's category on Thursday.
