Team Qatar defeat Saudi Arabia to take third place in Olympic qualifiers
Doha, October 27, 2019-Qatar defeated Saudi Arabia 31-21 on Saturday to take the third place in the Asian Men's Handball Qualification Tournament for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.Bahrain qualified to Tokyo 2020 Olympics after beating South Korea 34-29 in the final match held at Al Duhail Arena.On the other hand, Qatar youth handball team will take on Saudi Arabia on Sunday in the beginning of their campaign at the 10th Arab Championships in Tunisia.To conclude on November 03, the tournament is bringing together 6 teams including; Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Morocco and hosts Tunisia.Qatar's Squad: Abdullah Khalifa Al Jassim, Abdullah Mubarak Al Sulaiti, Abdullah Ali Al Dosari, Ali Hamad Al Suwaidi, Abdulrahman Jabor, Yazan Emad, Osama Hamdan, Badr Khamis Al Shemali, Thenyan Khalifa, Khalis Saeed Al Qassem, Saad Ismail, Adel Al Safadi, Jassim Mohammad Al Danhim, Mubarak Ahmed Al Sulaiti and Deyaldin Al Zawadi.
Rich haul for Qatar at GCC Women's Games
KUWAIT, October 27, 2019 - Qatar won the gold medal in the handball competition of the 6th GCC Women's Games in Kuwait City after defeating UAE 24-21 in the final on Saturday .Earlier, Qatari taekwondo player Amina Abdulkarim won the gold medal in the 53kg class while Maryam Ali Ben Ali won the silver medal in the 73kg weight category.Qatari women's table tennis team have also booked a podium finish and they are one step away from the gold medal. Al Annabi on Saturday defeated Saudi Arabia 3-0 in the team event and will face Bahrain in today's final.On other hand, Qatar's basketball team defeated hosts Kuwait 92-55 to claim the gold medal.In a press release on Saturday, the Qatar Olympic Committee's First Vice President HE Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani, appreciated the Qatar teams' outstanding performance and results in the Games, lauded the significant support of Qatar wise leadership to the sport movement in the country.His Excellency also praised the keenness of the Qatar Olympic Committee's President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani to promoting the sport activities among both men and women in the country.
QVA to organize Aspire and Katara Beach Volleyball Tournaments
DOHA, October 26, 2019-The Qatar Volleyball association (QVA) will organize Aspire Beach Volleyball Tournament from November 12-15, 2019 and Katara Beach Volleyball Tournament from March 9-13, 2020. The two tournaments will serve as qualification events for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The Qatari challenge in the two tournaments will be led by Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan. The Qatari duo claimed the title of 2018 edition of Aspire Tournament and took the third place at the last edition of Katara Tournament.
Team Qatar win Gold and Silver medals in Taekwondo at GCC Women's Games
KUWAIT, October 26, 2019 – Qatar's Ameena Abdulkareem confidently crowned with the gold medal in women's Taekwondo under 53kg event after winning the first place at GCC Women's Games 2019 in Kuwait on Friday.On the same track of victory, Qatar's Miriam Ali secured the second place to claim the silver medal in the women's Taekwondo under 73 kg event.Qatar's handball and basketball teams are due to be crowned with the gold medals on Saturday, after they have already secured their titles earlier on Thursday. Both Qatari teams shall play their final games against the hosts on Sunday.Team Qatar delegation to the games is chaired by Lolwa Al-Marri, President of Qatar Women's Sport Committee , accompanied by 132 athletes, administrators and technical staff members.
Qatar lose to Bahrain in semis of Olympic qualifiers
Doha, October 25, 2019-Qatar suffered a 26-28 defeat at the hands of Bahrain in the semifinals of the Asian Men's Handball Qualification Tournament for Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Thursday.Only the winners of the tournament, being held at Al Duhail Arena, is assured of a place in the Tokyo Games.In the other semifinals match, South Korea defeated Saudi Arabia 29-26.While the champions will receive the ticket to the Tokyo Games, the runners up will have to compete in the playoffs next April.It is the second time in a row that Qatar is hosting the Asian Men's Handball Qualification Tournament for the Olympic Games.
Draw held for Gulf Cup
Doha, October 24, 2019- The five teams that will take part in the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup in Qatar now know their path after the draw ceremony for the tournament took place in Doha on Wednesday.Hosts Qatar will be joined by defending champions Oman, ten-time winners Kuwait, Iraq and Yemen, with all matches to be played at Khalifa International Stadium from 24 November to 6 December.The five nations will compete in a round-robin format, with the side that finishes top of the group being crowned champions.The tournament's opening match will see hosts Qatar face Yemen on 24 November.
