Qatar Volleyball Squad Gears Up for World Championship Challenge

DOHA  - The Qatari national volleyball team continue its daily training at its internal camp in the Federation Hall, as part of the final stage of preparations before participating in the World Championship, which will be hosted by the Philippines from Sep. 12 to 28.This will be the team's second historic appearance at the World Championship.The Qatari national team played two friendly matches against the Egyptian team on Aug. 25 and 26, which ended in a 2-2 draw without resorting to a fifth tiebreaker by mutual agreement.The two technical teams preferred to limit the match to four sets to allow the largest number of players to practice and experiment with various technical methods.In the first match, the Egyptian team won the first and second sets, 26-24 and 25-15, before the Qatari team came back to win the third and fourth sets, 25-18.The second match saw a series of exchanges of dominance, with Egypt winning the first set (25-14), followed by Qatar in the second set (25-22). The Egyptians then took the lead again in the third set (25-15), before Qatar leveled the score with a 25-21 victory in the fourth set.The Qatari national team will continue training program with two matches against Iran on August 31 and September 2, before concluding their training camp with three matches against Ukraine on Sep. 4, 6, and 7.This will be the final stop before heading to the Philippine capital, Manila, where the tournament will be held.The World Cup draw placed the Qatari national team in Group B alongside world number one and defending champion Poland, the Netherlands, and Romania, in a group described as one of the toughest in the tournament.The Qatari will begin their campaign on Sep. 13 against the Netherlands, then face Poland on Sep. 15, and conclude the first round against Romania on Sep. 17.This is the team's second appearance in the World Cup finals, following its first participation in the 2022 edition held in Poland and Slovenia.This time, the team aims to capitalize on its accumulated experience and hone its performance against the world's top teams, at a time when the 2025 edition will witness a historic expansion to 32 teams, instead of the 24 that had been in place since the 1998 edition.  

Qatar Men’s and Women’s Beach Volleyball Teams Head to Lebanon for Training Camp Ahead of Arab and West Asia Championships

DOHA – Qatar’s men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams have departed for Batroun, Lebanon, to take part in a preparatory training camp ahead of upcoming competitions.The camp comes as part of the teams’ build-up for the Arab and West Asia Beach Volleyball Championships, both set to be hosted in Batroun in the coming period.The program is designed to boost the players’ technical and physical readiness, provide valuable match experience, and test their levels before entering official competitions. It also aims to create the best possible environment for both teams to deliver strong performances and achieve positive results.This camp marks an important step in the teams’ preparation journey, helping sharpen players’ skills and ensure they are ready to compete at the highest level.The Qatar Volleyball Association expressed its confidence that these preparations will translate into strong results that reflect the progress of Qatari volleyball and further strengthen its position at both the Arab and regional levels. 

Qatar Olympic Committee organises Workshop to Enhance Female Athletes Performance

Doha – The Athletes’ Commission of the Qatar Olympic Committee launched a specialized workshop on Sunday, running through Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Al Zubarah Hall in the committee’s headquarters.The workshop brought together around 12 female athletes, most of them from the younger generation, representing several national sports federations. Over three days, the program featured two daily training sessions .The initiative aims to equip participants with advanced practical skills that strengthen their presence both on and off the field of play. It also reflects the Qatar Olympic Committee’s strategy of empowering athletes and supporting their professional development.The program combined multiple themes with interactive sessions. On the opening day, athletes met with members of the Athletes’ Commission, followed by a workshop delivered in cooperation with the Qatar Anti-Doping Commission. Dr. Senaid Al-Marri, Director of Sports Affairs at Qatar University, led a session on safeguarding in sport, highlighting prevention measures against harassment and abuse.Day two featured two specialized sessions: the first focused on sports nutrition and the importance of mental health for athletes, and how these factors impact performance, consistency, and physical output, in collaboration with a team from Aspetar at Aspire Zone Foundation.In the closing session of the workshop, Dr. Sunaid Al Marri, Director of Sports Affairs at Qatar University, spoke about mechanisms for preventing harassment and abuse in the sports field.Mr. Abdulla Mohammed Al Marri, Head of Internal and External Communication Unit at the QOC’s International Cooperation and Communication Department, presented a brief overview in the first part of the second lecture, covering media interaction skills, including interpreting body language, understanding the current media landscape, and responding positively to sensitive questions and topics concerning athletes. In the second part, Mr. Mohammed Zeidan spoke about the effective use of social media platforms.This program forms part of the Qatar Olympic Committee’s ongoing efforts to empower athletes, raising awareness of the holistic aspects of sporting life including physical and mental health, media skills, and communication aligned with the principles and values of the Olympic Movement.Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Nada Mohamed Wafa, Deputy Secretary of the Athletes’ Commission, said: “This workshop marks an important step in preparing young female athletes, providing them with practical experience that enhances their active role and representation at both national and international levels. Today, non-technical aspects such as health awareness and media communication have become integral to shaping the identity of the modern athlete, in line with Olympic standards and the aspirations of Qatari sport.” 

Four Medals for Qatar Athletics Team at Arab U-18 Championship in Tunisia

Tunis - The Qatari athletics team won four medals Tuesday, one gold, two silver, and one bronze, at  the 11th edition of the Arab U- 18 Championship held in Tunisia with the participation of 15 countries.The medals were achieved by Younis Al Balushi, who won the gold medal in the pole vault event; Abdullah Al Abdullah, who claimed silver in the same event; Timo Jumaa, who earned silver in the 100m race with a time of 10.76 seconds; and Saleh Mahmoud, who took bronze in the discus throw.With these results, Qatar’s medal tally rose to five, two gold, two silver, and one bronze, after opening its participation with a gold medal in the shot put event by Saleh Mahmoud.The Qatari team is competing in the championship, which concludes tomorrow, with a group of distinguished athletes in track and field events, including Samer Hussein in the 1500m race, Timo Jumaa in the 100m and 200m races, Idris Abkar and Hussein Mohammed in the 110m hurdle.The team also includes Abdulrazzaq Idris and Abkar Idris in the 400m hurdles; Mubarak Saeed in the 1500m race; Abdullah Al Abdullah and Younis Al Balushi in the pole vault; and Saleh Mahmoud in both the shot put and discus throw events.  

Qatar Cricket Team gets better of Kenya in 2025 ICC Men's World Cup Challenge League

London  - Qatar national cricket team secured a narrow victory over Kenya, winning 243-242 in their match at the 2025 ICC Men's World Cup Challenge League, currently being held in Jersey, UK. The tournament runs until August 31 and features numerous teams from around the world.The match saw standout performances from several Qatari players, notably Imal Liyanag, who scored 107 runs off 136 balls, becoming the first player to reach this milestone in the tournament.This performance highlights the advancing level of Qatar cricket team on the international stage, reflecting ongoing efforts to achieve further success in the future.Qatar had lost its opening match of the tournament to Kuwait, with a score of 277-299.The team is set to face Denmark on Wednesday, followed by a match against Papua New Guinea on Saturday, as part of the ongoing competition.  

Team Qatar wins Silver, Two Bronze Medals at 16th Asian Shooting Championship

Shymkent, Kazakhstan - Qatari shooters continued their positive streak at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship currently being held in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, winning three medals Monday: a silver and two bronze in the trap and rifle competitions.In the women's trap competition, national team shooter Raya Bassel won the silver medal after finishing second in the final round following a strong competition with shooters from India, Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Iran.Qatari shooters also won the bronze medal in the men's trap team competition, with Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Shareb, and Angelo Scalzone scoring a total of 340 shots over the five rounds.The second bronze medal was won by national team shooter Amal Mahmoud in the mixed 20+20 rifle shooting competition.Qatari shooters won three bronze medals in the skeet competition at last week's championship.Shooter Ali Ahmed Al Ishaq won the bronze medal in the men's individual skeet category, while Mohammed Al Kuwari, Rashid Saleh Al Athba, and Ali Ahmed Al Ishaq won the bronze medal in the men's team skeet.The third medal came in the mixed skeet competition, won by Ali Al Ishaq and Sarah Ghulam.The Qatari team mission for trap, rifle, and pistol is headed by Ahmed Al Kuwari and includes Nawal Al Sulaiti, team manager, and approximately 32 shooters.The championship is being held in four competitions: pistol, rifle, skeet, and trap.The Asian Championship continues tomorrow, Tuesday, with the women's 30m rifle 3 positions final.President of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation Dr. Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr expressed his happiness with the impressive results achieved by the Qatari national team shooters in the 16th Asian Shooting Championship.In remarks to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), he said that this achievement was made possible thanks to the support of the wise leadership for the sports movement in the country.He said that these medals were the culmination of intensive preparations and tireless work, with Qatari shooters bringing their medal tally to six, achieving a qualitative leap and a shining mark in the history of Qatari and Asian shooting.He added, "These achievements are the result of the insightful vision and unlimited support of the country's wise leadership, which has given sports and youth utmost care and attention."He noted that these six medals are not just numbers, but rather testament to the efforts of Qatari shooters and their determination to achieve success, as well as to the competence of the technical and administrative staff, who have worked diligently to position Qatar in a leading position on the Asian and global shooting map.Dr. Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr emphasized that these impressive results will not be the end of the road, but rather a stronger and greater incentive to continue the journey and raise the bar for ambitions in preparation for upcoming international competitions, most notably the World Championships, which Doha will host next December.
