Team Qatar to Participate in Asian Throwing Championships in South Korea

DOHA-The Qatar Athletics Federation announced Wednesday the Qatari national team's participation in the third Asian Throwing Championships, which kicks off on Thursday, in Mokpo, South Korea, and will continue on Aug. 21 and 22.The federation said in a statement on its official website that a group of field athletes competing in various throwing events, most notably Ahmed Jabreen and Ashraf Al Saifi, will compete in the shot put and hammer throw competitions, aiming to enhance Qatari athletics' successes at the Asian level.The statement added that another goal of participating in the championship is to provide a number of promising players with the opportunity to gain experience, in addition to raising the competitive level of the throwing athletes who will compete in the World Championships in Tokyo next month.It is noteworthy that Ahmed Jabreen is considered one of the best athletes in the shot-put competition in West Asia, with a throw that is the best this season (17.88 meters), while Ashraf El Seifi has accumulated great experience in the hammer throw competition, and the throw (78.19 meters) is his best number.

Belgrade – The Qatar national table tennis team has concluded its overseas training camp in Belgrade, Serbia, marking an important step in its preparations for the Arab Table Tennis Championships to be held in Morocco next month.The camp brought together key players Abdullah Abdulwahab, Sultan Al-Kuwari, and Ahmed Eid Qarni, alongside their teammates, under the supervision of Greek head coach Daniel Tsioukas. DOHA - Qatar’s Olympic champion Fares Ibrahim is preparing for a significant new chapter in his weightlifting career as he gears up to compete at the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships, scheduled to take place in Volda, Norway, from October 1 to 10.The event will mark his first appearance in the 94kg weight category, following recent weight class changes introduced by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).The shift is part of a broader early preparation strategy for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where the 94kg category will be officially adopted. Having previously competed in the now-abolished 102kg category, Fares and his team have identified the 94kg class as the most suitable option technically and physically after careful evaluation.Jassim Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the Qatar Weightlifting Federation, and member of the IWF’s Development and Education Committee, emphasized that the move to 94kg was the result of a detailed study of Fares’ capabilities. The decision was made in close consultation with his coach, Ibrahim Hassouna and the technical team, who believe this category aligns best with Fares’ natural physical profile.Al Mansoori added that while the 110kg category was considered as an alternative, Fares’ build is better suited for the 94kg category.He acknowledged the high level of competition expected in the new class but expressed full confidence in Fares’ ability to adapt and emerge as a strong contender.Although the 2025 World Championships are not part of the official Olympic qualification process, Al-Mansoori described the event as a critical testing ground to assess Fares’ performance in the new category.
